Dayton Fangs 2007-2008 Season Schedule Announced

Monday, November 5
The Fangs WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Fangs got their first ever WIN this weekend at the Strongsville Autumn Classic and placed Third in the Pioneer division!

----- Game 3 vs. Circle City Sirens - Saturday November 4, 2006 -----
Final Score: 2-1 Win

The Fangs came out ready to play. After already having played two games and being so close to winning both, they were hungry for a win and they got it.
At 3:15 in the first period Michelle Spaven scored the first goal with an assist from Becky Rock. The fangs continued to play at a good pace. With 1:28 left in the second period Shannon Bailey received her first penalty (interfernce). This penalty continued into the third period, and right after the Sirens' power play was over they scored and tied the game. The Fangs wanted this win and didn't want to settle for another tie. In the third period Spaven got a little scrappy and received a hooking penalty. Then with 4:10 left in the third, Spaven threw the puck to the net, it ricocheted off a couple of players and found its way into the net. Merri Meadows and Karen Pichler had assists on the game winning goal. The Fangs could bearly hold their excitment back, but quickly settled down to finish out the game. When it was over the Fangs went crazy!!! Of course a celebration followed with a team dinner at a local Italian restaurant.

----- Game 2 vs. Pittsburgh Piranhas - November 4, 2006 -----
Final Score: 1-2 Loss

The Fangs played a great game against the Piranhas even though it ended in a loss. Julie Goode had the lone goal in this game, with a great shot from just inside the blue line. There were no penalties. The Fangs put their all into it, but didn't come out on top.

----- Game 1 vs. Florida Beaches - November 2, 2006 -----
Final Score: 1-1 Tie

This was the first game of three for the weekend and the Fangs were ready to play. Britney Hervey scored the first goal of the game and got the Fangs fired up. Then the Beaches came back and tied it up. It was a nail biting end, but the Fangs were happy with their first ever tie.

******** :):):):)
The Fangs would like to thank the Pittsburgh Puffin's players who came to play with them this weekend. Lynn Belliotti (goalie), Gretchen Maxeiner (forward), Britney Hervey (forward), and Marcia Metz (defense), it was a pleasure playing with you this weekend. Thank You!!

Thank you to Coach Dennis and Chris for seeing us through!

Marianne thank you for the extra support.

And we can't forget our fans that traveled up to Strongsville to watch and cheer us on. Mr. Spaven, Mr. Rock, Little Rock, and Mr. Belliotti. :) Thank You!!

The Dayton Fangs Amateur Women's Ice Hockey team is having an information session at SouthMetro Ice & Inline in Centerville. It will be on Oct. 1 for any woman 18 and older who is interested in playing. Don't worry; you don't have to be experienced.

According to the team's Web site, topics such as costs, practice times, locations, coaches, sponsors and sponsorship, equipment and travel will be covered.

"The goal is to put together a team which will be able to play regional exhibition games, travel tournaments and eventually become a member of the Pennsylvania-Ohio Women's Hockey Association (POWHA)," said the site.

If you are interested in playing and cannot attend, send an e-mail to info@daytonfangs.com.
Vice President of POWHA Marianne Graham said, "I worry about the opportunity for other women in the area to learn and compete on the ice. This year I have put aside some time so that I could help create a women's hockey team in the Dayton area."

As the league boasts, come out and see if you're "sugar and spice...but not on the ice."
