Cougars Score Early and Often in Huntsville
The Cougars took advantage of Huntsville's pre-season defensive lapses and added in a healthy dose of solid hitting and pretty decent pitching to run away with the 11 inning marathon scrimmage game in Huntsville last night 20-2.
The Coogs worked on their bunting game early, taking advantage of good bunting and a few bunt coverage miscues by the Hornets, scratching out 13 runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings. Eight Cougar hitters had 2 or more hits led by Seniors Mike Tobias (3 hits) and Justin Davis (3 RBIs).
Six Cougar pitchers got some good work in as well scattering 11 hits across in 11 innings with only 4 walks and 3 hit batsmen, while tallying 14 strike-outs.
Team defense looked pretty good for this early in the season, but to be fair, Huntsville never really tested Coogs.
Everthing considered, it was a great kick-off to the season and with continued hard work, an excellent example of what this team can do.

The scrimmages last weekend at BB USA came out pretty good. Swindell and Justin Sarabia both cranked! Awesome. We hope they have a few more of those bombs left. The defense played ok and the pitching was ok. The hitting was also ok. We hope everyone is finding a way to get some kind of workout in during this awful weather.
