Wednesday Night Worlds - 7/30 beatdown
The cat 4 guys were at it again last night. Beres did the early work to shut down a 2-man break. After that, Nago went to work and things got ugly. Anything more than a solo flyer got snuffed out immediately so everything was mostly together going into the last 3 laps. Until it wasn't...

There was one tristar(?) guy off the front who apparently wronged Jeremy is some profound way. Nago wound up the pace and basically rode most of the field off of his wheel. After half a lap it was Nago, Shields, and some indiana guy that looked fast. Jeremy kept the pace up for the next two laps, so only 2 more guys rejoined the group -but they were done. Nago peeled off with just under one to go, and the Indiana led out the whole lap. Shields stepped off the wheel at the last turn and won going away. Jeremy kept it going caveman style and held on for 6th-ish.

All in, looks like Shields has locked up the belt [again], and Nago has a shot at the sprint title. That and a big handful of wins so far. Now if we can put Shields on leadout duty, things should get really fun.

Wednesday Night Worlds 7/22

The Boyer Express was on track the week of 7-9-08, getting Chris Beres the win, with all of our Cat 4 riders finishing in the money that day. The week of 7-16-08 it was Boyer doing work in the early 3-man break, scooping up points, as a chase pack (in which Chris Beres, Jeremy Nagoshiner and I were sitting) worked hard and shelled riders in order to stay within range. The efforts eventually led to a group of about 7 that included Jeremy and I, and I launched an attack with slightly over a lap to go for the CT victory (albeit barely). Jeremy picked up prize money for the second week in a row with a 5th place finish.

We currently have 3 of the top 6 riders in the Cat 4 overall standings (Barrett is 3rd even after having only done two Cat 4 races), and Jeremy is currently 3rd in the sprint competition. No doubt so far we have the dominant Cat 4 team in the series.

JUNE UPDATE
The 2008 cycling season in Tennessee is now in full swing and the Cumberland Transit Cycling Club continues having great results. Since our last update (April, 2008) the club has participated in an additional eight Tennessee Bicycle Race Association (TBRA) sanctioned races which include: Dirt, Sweat, and Gears 12 Hour Race (mountain bike), Fayetteville TN;  the Monkey Grinder at Montgomery Bell (mountain bike), Dickson TN; the Highland Rim Cycling Classic (road race), McMinnville, TN; the Sumner County Classic Road Race, White House TN; and two NashvilleCyclist.com Criteriums (road race), Nashville TN.
In these races, across four different rider categories (Jrs. and cat 5-3), we have had a combined eight top 5 finishes (including four 1st and six 2nd place finishes) and five top 10 finishes. This brings the club’s total this far in the season to five 1st places, seven 2nd places, thirteen top 5 finishes and eight top 10 finishes! Not bad for a club with only 30 members committed to racing. The club did very well at the 12 hour mountain bike race, Dirt, Sweat and Gears, where Scott McConnell took 1st out of 11 riders (Solo Single Speed Men’s Amateur) and John Carr placed 3rd out of 39 riders (Amateur Men Solo)!
In our last updated we mentioned that Barrett Krei was doing well in the TBRA Tennessee Best Area Rider (BAR) competition. Barrett has moved from 4th place to 3rd place in the cat 4 points race and remains one or two top finishes away from first place in this competition (more information on this competition can be found at http://www.tbra.org/index.php). Barrett has also accumulated enough USA Cycling Federation points to move up to the category 3 field for road racing, where he would be able to help our other two cat 3 riders, John Carr and Mark Miller; but in doing this Barrett would give up his claim to the cat 4 TBRA BAR competition. We will keep you posted on this development in the next update.
The next big race for the club will be the Edgar Soto Memorial Criterium Series in Nashville, TN June 13th – 15th. This series features three criteriums in and around Nashville that will feature large fields (50+) in each category. We will let you know how the club does at this and other races in our next update.

Team Update

The 2008 season has only just begun, yet the Cumberland Transit Cycling Club is already having some great results. We wanted to give you a brief update before the season gets too busy. Since racing started this past April the club has participated in five Tennessee Bicycle Race Association (TBRA) sanctioned events, which include the following mountain bike races: Chickasaw Race Classic in Columbia TN and the White Lightning time trial and cross country races in Grand Rivers, KY; and the following road races: Maryville Downtown Criterium in Maryville TN, the South Knoxville time trial and road race omnium, and the Dogwood Criterium in Knoxville, TN.

In these races, across four different rider categories (Jrs. and cat 5-3), we have had a combined nine top 5 finishes (including one 1st and 2nd place finishes) and three top 10 finishes. Also, three of our Cumberland Transit riders, John Carr, Jeremy Nagoshiner, and Barret Krei qualified for Mountain Bike Nationals, which will be held July 17-20, 2008 in West Dover, VT. Cumberland Transit Cycling currently has a category 4 rider, Barret Krei, in 4th place and a junior, Kevin Morris, in 3rd place in the TBRA Tennessee Best Area Rider competition. Both Barret and Kevin are one or two top finishes away from first place in this prestigious competition and are contenders for the TBRA awarded best area rider jersey presented to the winner in each category at the end of each season. More information on this competition can be found at
http://www.tbra.org/index.php.

The next big race for the club will be Dirt, Sweat and Gears in Fayetteville, TN on Saturday May 3rd. This is a 12 hour mountain bike race in which participants can race individually or as part of a team on single speed or geared mountain bikes. Last year John Carr won this race in his category (Amateur Men Solo), so look for CTCC to have some top finishes again this year. As always, we thank you for your continued support. Your products and company are being well represented throughout Tennessee by CTCC, as the club is putting all of your sponsorship products to good use, testing them to their limit at every race we participate in.
