DIVISIONS WITHIN CSALL
Challenger The Challenger Division provides boys and girls with disabilities the opportunity to experience the emotional development and the fun of playing Little league Baseball. This groundbreaking program enables every child the opportunity to participate in a structured athletic program --- regardless of their ability. The Challenger division also helps to establish strong bonds of friendship and understanding between Little Leaguers from other programs and Challenger children in an atmosphere of sharing and caring. In Challenger games, "buddies" help their challenged partners by acting as guides for blind children or pushing wheelchair-bound children around the basepaths. This interaction has proven to be a positive experience for all the children involved as Challenger players enjoy the thrill of participation and their "buddies" experience first-hand, the challenges these children face in their daily lives. Instructional T-Ball Open to 5 year olds, this division offers first time exposure to organized sports for many players. Players must use a batting tee rather than a pitched ball. A cushioned ball is also used in the interest of safety. It is non-competitive, and its goal is to have fun, and learn sportsmanship and teamwork. T-Ball The Tee Ball program is a training process by which youngsters can learn, develop and practice fundamental baseball skills at an early age and receive maximum enjoyment from the experience. Open to 6 year olds. Players must use a batting tee rather than a pitched ball. It is non-competitive and no score is kept. Coaches teach basic baseball skills, but the goal is to have fun, and learn sportsmanship and teamwork. Coach Pitch Open to 7 and 8 year olds, using the CSALL traditional "Coach Pitch" rules and a 60-foot diamond with pitching distance set at 46 feet. Players receive pitches from a coach on their own team. Score is kept, but there are no league standings posted. Emphasis is on player skill development, sportsmanship and teamwork. Teams are reassigned each year. Minors Open to ages 9, 10 and 11, using a 60-foot diamond with pitching distance set at 46 feet. The rules are CSALL traditional Minor League. Players pitch, but there is a "No-walk" rule: Coaches pitch after "ball four". There are four outfielders, base stealing is permitted but players may not steal home. Players are selected by a draft. Teams are redrafted each year. If there is a need for more players to fill the team rosters, players who are age 8 may be drafted or selected from the Coach Pitch division. After the regular season, players may be selected for an All Star Team, which may compete in district and state tournaments. Majors The offical name of this division is "Little League Baseball", but has also become known as "Majors" to avoid confusion with the larger organization of which it is a part. The players in this division are ages 10, 11 and 12, and are selected by a draft which is held following spring tryouts. Once drafted, players stay with their team through age 12. After the regular season, players may be selected for an All Star Team. If successful, the All Star Team could compete in the Little League World Series, an international event held in August. Juniors Players are age 13 and 14. This is the first opportunity for many to play on a regulation size baseball field (90' base-lines, 60'6" pitching distance, 300' home run fence) etc. In addition to games among CSALL teams, the Junior Division may have a schedule of Inter-League games with nearby leagues, (Cave Spring National League and Vinton League). There is also post-season play; CSALL selects an All-Star Team which competes in District and State Tournaments. There is also a Junior League Baseball World Series. Players often tell us that Juniors play is their most satisfying experience in recreational baseball. Seniors The Seniors Division offers a high-quality baseball experience for players ages 15 and 16, playing on regulation size baseball fields. The playing schedule usually involve games with our neighbors in the Cave Spring National League and other nearby leagues. The Seniors Division provides a competitive environment and exciting play. Big League Designed for youth 17 and 18 years old, this division was inagurated in 1961 as an extension of Little League Baseball to continue providing competitive baseball activity within the framework of the local league. CSALL utilizes a conventional 90-foot diamond. Players are encouraged to participate in the Big League Division even if they are participating in other baseball leagues or other sports. There is also a full range of tournament play, including a Big League World Series |
