The new State Chairman for the National Wrestling Coaches Association is Coach Lammey and the new State Ranking Editor for Intermat is Nick Tucker. Congratulations and thanks to both. They have volunteered to take over for me as I am too consummed with my own kids at this time and am not able to spend sufficient time recruiting coaches to join the NWCA and to do state rankings. Please give both men your support and lets help grow Alabama Wrestling.

7-13-05
The National Wrestling Coaches Assocaition called me and asked me take over the reins as the Alabama State Chairman for Alabama. The goal is to help grow opportunites for our wrestlers and coaches in Alabama. One conversation I had with NWCA was the possibility of bringing Dan Gable to Alabama to do a coaches clinic followed by a wrestling clinic for the athletes. If this occurs it will be the direct result of the NWCA to help Alabama grow. Keep this in your mind as I will be contacting many of you to support the effort to help grow our great sport here in Alabama. Another conversation I had was how to bring collegiate wrestling to Alabama on a scholarshiped basis. As you can see, your help and ideas will be greatly needed. Keep an eye on this topic of the NWCA here in Alabama. Please contact me if you want to help in any respect.

Josh signed with Boston University today at 11:30 in front of about 100 supporters including his wrestling team mates, ROTC class, his parents (Bobby and Diana Statum) and brother Daniel and sister Tiffany. Josh had grandparents, cousins, friends and coaches there to congratulate him. Arturo Holmes of The Wrestling Club in Atlanta, GA made the ride over to be a witness. Other notables in the crowd were Charlie Lorant (Carter's dad), Terri and Hugo Millsap, Coach Bob Parker of Pelham High School and of course my wounderful wife and children (all 6 of them). If I can figure out my camera I will post a picture of Josh signing his scholarship. This chapter is now closed and it has been more than a roller coaster ride. This is a story that I need to get Josh's family to share. God's wounderful blessings to you all.

OPEN INVITATION AND BACKGROUND INFORMATION
I have been coaching wrestling since my days at Clemson University where I served as the Team GA Junior National Assistant Coach. I have been surrounded by some great teams and individuals over the years. Since my tenure in AL (11 years) our high school teams have won 5 State Titles and 4 Back-to-Back (2004, 2003, 2002 & 2001) and have been runner-up twice and 4th twice. Our middle school teams have been Jefferson County Champs 3 times and runner-ups 2 times and 4th three times. While wrestling, I received several honors including earning a scholarship to Clemson University and then to Carson-Newman College. I was a two time undefeated state champ, AL ’83 and GA ’84, S.E. Regional Freestyle Champ and Greco Runner-up as a junior, high school All-American honors by AWN, Scholastic Coach (Gatorade) and Wrestling USA. I chose Clemson over Iowa State, Tennessee and Montana. I qualified for nationals three times and earned a #3 national ranking as a senior and was a Wrestling All-American and Wrestling Academic All-American. Let me put my knowledge and experience to work helping you achieving your dreams and goals.
