Coach Hall Leaving Cougars and CHS
 | |
After 17 years at CHS and 16 years as head coach of the Cougar Track & Field team, Coach Ryan Hall is moving on to a teaching position at Campbell Collegiate in Regina.
"Coaching track & field has been a huge joy in my teaching and coaching career. It is such a unique sport, and I have enjoyed bringing the team concept to what most people view as an individual activity. I've seen so many great kids come out to track over the years and work so hard. Some of them were great athletes and some weren't, but it was a thrill to see them all achieving goals and personal bests. I have many wonderful memories of track meets on both beautiful days and rainy days, road trips to provincials, great team and individual success, and students that emptied their tanks in competition. While I was the head coach, I often just felt like the biggest fan. I am so thankful for the great people that have helped me coach over the years, and I wish the coaches who will take over the program all the best of success. I will miss the school, the team, and the wonderful students I have had the privilege to coach. Go Cougars!!

Thiessen Leads Cougars to Strong First Day at Provincials
 | | | | Rylan Thiessen had his eyes on gold |
|
Rylan Thiessen had a strong day at the provincial track and field meet in Yorkton, highlighted by a gold medal performance in the midget boys 100m hurdles! He had the fastest qualifying times through the heats and semi finals, and blew the competition away in the final, despite hitting the third last hurdle on his way over. Immediately after his race, he headed to long jump, and even with a banged up knee, finished a very respectable 8th. His 100m semi final time left him just out of the final (9th).
On Saturday, he will anchor the South Central District midget boys 4x100m relay team, as well as participating in the triple jump.
Way to go Rylan!

Cougars Finish 5th at MJ Invitational
It was a great day for a track and field meet, as the Cougars had a good day of competition at the annual Moose Jaw Invitational Track & Field Meet. 21 teams accepted the invitation to attend, and the Cougars finished a very respectable 5th behind Central, Vanier, Swift Current and Peacock. All of the Cougars contributed points to the team's success, led by Rylan Thiessen in midget boys who finished first in all of his events (hurdles, 100m, long jump and triple jump), and set a record in the hurdles. Stephanie Mitchell (junior girls hurdles) and Dallas McDowell (junior boys 1500m) also earned red ribbons.
The Cougars start their road to the provincial track meet on Thursday when they take part in the South Central District North Section meet. Each athlete will need to finish top two in order to advance to the South Central District Meet next week.
