In honor of Chris Sifford, a long time Carnahan aide, the Chris Sifford Memorial Foundation (CSMF) has organized an event to raise money for a scholarship fund for communication and journalism students at Missouri State University. This event includes a 2.5k and 5k walk/run followed by a day at the ballpark with the Springfield Cardinals.

Steve Koehler worked with Chris at the Springfield News-Leader. "He was the kind of guy who was never down; he saw the bright side of things. He never let life pass him by without making a wisecrack about things," Koehler said.
The event will take place on June 28th, 2008 at 8:00 a.m. in front of Hammons Field in Springfield, MO. The walk/run will be a two-loop track starting and finishing at the gates of Hammons Field. The track will run through Jordan Valley Park on the way back to the ballpark. Police assistance will be present at intersections where runners and walkers will cross traffic. The money these runners and walkers raise will be donated to the Chris Sifford Memorial Scholarship. This is the third year for the run with attendance at 200 plus for each year.
Mr. Sifford served the governor in a variety of positions including press secretary, communications director, and chief of staff before stepping down to direct governor Carnahan's bid for the U.S. Senate. He was our rock," said a fellow member of the governor's staff who requested anonymity. "Everyone that knew Chris loved Chris."
