2008 GOLF TOURNAMENT AT TUSCAN RIDGE GOLF COURSE

Chico American Legion Baseball will be hosting it's annual golf tournament on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at Tuscan Ridge Golf Course. All players will receive a great 18 holes of golf with cart, range balls, lunch on the course, and all are entered into a hole in one cash contest. Tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 9:00 am.
There will also be a raffle that includes sports memorabilia, local dinners, Giants tickets and other local items.
The cost of entry is $100 per player, and all interested players should call 530-342-0717.

Chico American Legion Baseball is excited to announce that former major league player and coach Dave Stewart will be the featured speaker at Spring Fever 2008, scheduled for Friday February 29, 2008 at Manzanita Place in Chico. Stewart played 16 seasons in the major leagues, with his most successful seasons coming with the Oakland Athletics in the late 1990's. He helped the A's reach the World Series in three consecutive years, and was named the Most Valuable Player in 1989 when the A's defeated the San Francisco Giants. Stewart won another World Championship in 1993 with the Toronto Blue Jays. Stewart was an American League All Star, a four time 20 game winner, an ALCS Most Vauable Player, and a recipient of the Roberto Clemente Award. He has also coached in the majoe leagues, was an Assistant General Manager, and is currently an agent for several major league players.
The Spring Fever event will once again feature an incredible live and silent auction. Guest will be able to bid on trips to Napa, rver rafting in Ashland, the College World Series, Gold Beach, front row Giants tickets and numerous other Giants games, Oakland Athletics games, Sacramento Kings games, golf at the best local courses including Bailey Creek, Safeco Park in Seattle, and dinner on the Shasta Sunset Dinner Train. Memorabilia from Alex Rosriguez, Mickey Mantle, Matt Cain, Brooks Robinson, Cal Ripken Jr, Tony Romo, Terrell Owens, Emmitt Smith, Brett Favre, Ozzie Smith, and many others.

NUTS WIN FALL CLASSIC
The Chico Nuts won the tenth annual Fall Classic going 4-0 over the two day tournament in Chico, and improving their fall 2008 record to 15-1-1. The Nuts opened the tournament with a 7-2 win over the Chico Suns. James Sanderson was 2 for 4 with 2 runs batted in, including a triple. Matt Brashears and Derrick Biley combined to limit the Suns to four hits in the game. Kurt Laver doubled in the Suns two runs in the third inning.
The Nuts followed their opening victory with a 18-4 drubbing of Foothill. The Nuts scored 8 runs in the first inning, Gene Griffin was 3 for 5 with two runs batted in, including a double, and Casey Hughes was 2 for 4 with 2 runs batted in. The Nuts collected a total of 13 hits in five innings in support of starter Sean Norton, who pitched a complete game, striking out eight and improving his record to 3-0.
The Nuts had to come from behind to defeat the Sacramento River Sox on Sunday, eventually prevailing by the score of 7-2. Down 2-0 after five innings, the Nuts scraped three runs together in the fifth inning with consecutive singles from derrick Biley, James Sanderson, and David Simmons. The Nuts capped the game off in the seventh with a grand slam from Sanderson. Wes Henman earned the win with five innings of work, and Sanderson struck out five in two inings fo relief.
The Nuts captured the championship with an 11-6 win over the Red Bluff Rebels. The Nuts gave up six runs in teh first, and then held the Rebels scoreless over the next six innings. Shane Galbraith was five for five with three runs batted in, including two doubles and a triple. Gene Griffin earned the win with two innings of scoreless relief.
Tuesday, September 4
CHICO NUTS WIN LABOR DAY INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT
The Chico Nuts won the 9th annual Labor day Invitational baseball tournament at doryland Field on Sep 1-3. The Nuts went undefeated with a 5-0 record in the tournament, defeating the Tahoe Loggers by the score of 10-4 in the championship game. The Nuts began the tournament with a 2-1 victory over the Red Bluff Rebels. Matt Gilbertson pitched six innings of scoreless baseball, needing only 47 pitches. Riley Cox earned the save, with one inning of relief.
The Nuts defeated the Eureka Falcons by the score of 6-5, coming back from a 5-3 deficit with three runs in the bottom of the seventh. James Sanderson singled in two runs to tie the score and David simmons drove in the winning run with a line drive to the right field gap. Drew Sullivan Hames struck out eight batters in four innings of work, and Gene Griffin earned the victory.
On Sunday, the Nuts offense erupted in both games, beginning with a 13-3 victory over Foothill. Wes henman earned the victory with five solid innings on the mound, Shane Galbraith led the Nuts with two hits and two stolen bases, and Nolan Atkins was 3 for 4 with a double and 4 rbi's. The Nuts followed that victory with a 12-2 victory over the Tahoe Loggers. Riley Cox and Nolan Atkins held the Tahoe team to four hits in five innings, and Drew Sullivan Hames capped a six run first inning with a three run home run.
The championship game pitted the Nuts against Tahoe. James sanderson pitched 3 2/3 innings, and Gene Griffin pitched 1 1 /3 innings. Galbraith, Sanderson, and Biley each had two hits for the Nuts.

FEHLING, QUIRING HEADS POST SEASON AWARDS
The Chico Nuts have announced their 2007 post season awards, with Ryan Fehling being awarded the program;s highest honor, the Bob Busch Mr. American Legion Award, presented to the player who best represents Chico American Legion Baseball. In addition to Fehling, the following awards were presented:

NUTS IN EUGENE
The Chico Nuts returned to Eugene, oregon for the 33rd annual Pap Pizza Tournament.
DAY 1
The Nts lost to the Springfield Titans by the score of 6-1. Ben Severe pitched five innings and Brandon Ottenwalter pitched the sixth. The Nuts were held to just four hits, with Andy Quiring driving in the only run.
DAY 2
The Nuts defeated Beaverton, Oregon by the score of 12-6. The Nuts scored six runs in the sixth, including two two run doubles by Andy Quiring and Kevin Griffin. Trevor Ryan pitched fourinnings in relief for the victory. The Nuts play edin Prarie, Minnesota on Friday.
Wednesday, June 20
NUTS RETURN TO OMAHA
The Chico Nuts have returned to Omaha in 2007 for the Decker CWS Invitational Tournament, a 48 team national tourney.
DAY 1
The Nuts opened the tournament against site host Elkhorn, Nebraska and came away with a 4-3 victory. Andy Quiring led the Nuts offense going 4 for 4 with 2 doubles and a triple. Thomas Whitsett drove in the go ahead run iin the seventh inning. After Quiring led off the inning with a triple to right center field. Whitsett followed with an RBI double to right.
On the mound, starter Ben Severe went five innings, striking out five and walking onl one batter. Whitsett earned the victory after thowing the last 1 1/3 innings, striking out five.
The Nuts next play Galesburg, Illinois @ 12:00 on Thursday, followed by St. Mary's @ 2:30.
DAY 2
The were undone by a poor defensive performance in their contest to Galesburg, falling by the score of 12-4 after committing 6 errors. Shane Galbraith was 2 for 3.
The Nuts bounced back in the second game of the day with a 4-2 victory over St. Mary's of Colorado Springs. Brandon Ottenwalter pitched five innings for the win, and Shane Galbraith pitched the final two innings for the save. Galbraith also was 2 for 3, givinbg him four hits on the day. The Nuts will play Thunder Ridge Colorado Friday at 7:30 pm.
DAY 3
In a tight game, the Nuts defeated the Thunder ridge Grizzlies by the score of 5-4. Todd Timmons pitched five innings to earn the victory, and Drew Sullivan Hames pitched the last two to earn the save. Shane Galbraith was 3 for 4, and Ben Severe and Andy Quiring each collected two hits.
DAY 4
The Nuts adavnaced to the quarter finals with a dominant victory over the Colrado Springs Jets. Thomas Whitsett pitched a complete game two hit shutout, strking out nine batters. Cody Brown returned to the lineup for the first time in over two weeks and hit a solo home run in the second. Ben Severe went two for three with 2 rbi's.
In the quarter fianls, the Nuts tournament run ended with an 8-5 loss to the Vancouver Coyotes. The Nuts jumped out to an early 3-1 lead but were unable to hold on. Shane Galbraith pitched five innings, and Ryan McDaniel pitched one. Andy Quiring was 2 for 4 with a home run.

YOLO WINS FATHER'S DAY CLASSIC, ALL TOURNEY TEAM ANNOUNCED
Yolo Post 77 won the 9th Annual Father's Day Classic, claiming the title with a 6-3 victory over the Napa Riverdogs. Chico finished fifth in the tourney, with a record of 3-2. The following is the 2007 All Tournament Team:

As a kid my thoughts centered around becoming a professional athlete. My wishes were fulfilled by supportive parents, hard work (still having fun) and a strong belief in God.
When I was 16 years old my parents sent me to the Squaw Valley Warriors Basketball Camp. I had expert instruction from greats such as Rick Barry and Avlin Attles, and to my surprise was voted MVP of the camp. I can't express the self-esteem gained from that day forward.
At that time I vowed that when I became a professional I would have a camp of my own so that other kids could experience similar progress and satisfaction.
