You Can Use Your Credit/Debit Card!
Welcome to the Central Arkansas Mens Senior Baseball League! If you're coming to our website because you've seen our newspaper ad, click on "News." Otherwise, you can post a message on the board, check your team schedule, or see the standings. Once you register as a member, you can upload your picture or a picture of your team or a game highlight--all free to you. Happy Browsing! Friday, July 4 Standings and Stats Happy Fourth! The first half of the season is over and congratulations on a great year so far. We've had some close, good games and extra inning games that have been fun to play and watch. We began play at Junior Deputy Field and feedback has been positive from our end and from the folks at JD. We'll likely be playing some extra games there coming up in addition to what's scheduled. I'm getting final schedules from JD coaches on any potential scheduling conflicts and will update you accordingly here on the website and on the league line at 779-MSBL (6725). You can see where the teams stand by clicking "Standings." The Brewers and Cardinals are battling it out with nearly identical records. It remains to be seen whether the Brewers can keep the roll going as they lose some key players to military reassignments in the coming days and weeks. It would seem our Most Valuable Player for the first half would be Elliot Cautreaux with the Brewers who hit a grand slam on opening day (Frankie Hernandez of the Cardinals has one, too), then followed a few games later by hitting the cycle and almost did it again the game after. His current average of above .800 is head and shoulders above the rest of the league. I'm missing information on some new players, so if you don't see your name, rest assured I'll have it in shortly. My goal is to have them done by the beginning of the second half on Tuesday night. I've been working with Coach Frank Troutman of JA Fair on repairing the mound at Mills High School. I think you'll be very pleased with how it turned out. In addition to raising the mound to about 12-inches, we found the pitching rubber was 65-feet from homeplate instead of regulation 60-feet, six-inches. So, maybe pitchers will find some relief of sore arms or find a few miles per hour more on the fast ball. We ask that you take care of the mound; if your pitcher digs holes into the landing zone or at the rubber, we ask that you rake it (from the outside of the mound, in. No raking back and forth on the top, according to coach Troutman). Coach Jerimiah will likely take care of things, but if you're the last one out, please make sure the mound is covered by tarp before you leave the field. Have a great second half and check back here and on the league line for more infromation.
Sunday, June 15 New On The Site
For those of you who gave your coach your email address, you may be getting an email from eteamz.com in the coming days asking if you want to join the league on-line. I would encourage to do this since they don't sell your name, it make it easier for the league or your coach to reach you, and allows you to update your information--also no charge. You'll also see stats slowly being updated on the site. You'll access these by clicking the "teams" heading, then clicking on stats on the left side of the page. For those of you new to the league, we don't list fielding stats--just pitching and hitting. For the moment, I cannot enter Brewers stats because of numbering and scorekeeping issues.
Thanks and Happy Father's Day! Thursday, May 29 2008 Season Opener Makes CAMSBL History Brewers start the season with a slapping of the Red Sox capped by what may be the first-ever grand salami on opening day in the leagues 20+ years! More details to come. Remember, the league line is 779-1905. We're still trying to get the pregnant pause out of the line, but if you wait the voicemail will pick up. The schedule is now available to your left. Click on Schedule and you can see the whole season either by league or by team. Stats are delayed because our coaches aren't turning in their rosters to the scorekeeper, have no numbers or duplicates, and aren't providing pitching changes or pitcher names or batter substitutions. Keep on your coach to keep the stats and let the scorekeeper know!
Thursday, May 3 How To Save On Taxes Playing Baseball In 2008 It might pay for you to consider how to make your 2008 baseball season lighter on your wallet. I was talking to my CPA recently regarding our league. We are a non-profit and we wanted to know how to bring some possible tax relief to players by being able to write off their dues. The CPA told me several interesting things. She says that you can indeed write off your dues regardless of the league's IRS status, if you do business--that includes negotiate, compare notes, actually exchange money--with at least three other people in the league. If you talk about insurance or a buy a policy from John Lewis, talk about cameras and video with Bill Wall or have Randall Guard's wife as your doctor, it would fill the requirement. Point being, it's time to put together our list of what we do, contact numbers, etc., so we all can take advantage of this tax relief. If some of you think your business can offer discounts to MSBL players, it's even better for everyone involved. I'm going to put a special section on the message board for you to put your info. Even if you don't think anyone else can benefit from what you do, put it on. You never know if someone in the league could benefit from your expertise. Here's another interesting thing; the CPA says if you can get your employer or any business or person to sponsor you or your team to play, it's deductible to them even if we're not a charitable entity. They simply write it off as an advertising expense. Your responsibility would then be to put their logo on your jersey or put up a sign. By the way, I would also encourage you to have your dues taken automatically drafted out of your checking or savings account for next year. If the dues were an issue for you this year, try this convenient way of paying. For instance, if you're reasonably sure you're going to play in May of 2009, and you want to save $200 toward next year, you can pay $16.67 a month starting in June. If you don't want to play, or can't, the league will pay you back in full. Ask your coach for details!
