B'wood wins 7-4 over Creek

CLUTE Tyler Camp overcame eight walks, two hit batters and 140 pitches as the Brazoswood Buccaneers came from behind Tuesday to defeat visiting Clear Creek, 7-4, in a District 24-5A matchup at Wilson Field.
The gutsy Camp and his battling Buc teammates overcame a dismal start which produced a 3-0 Creek lead in the first inning.
It was not a good start, Bucs coach Bobby Williams said. But I thought our kids battled the entire night, especially Tyler. He just wouldnt give up, and somehow he finished strong. I guess he needs 100 pitches to warm up.
Camp got into trouble in the first inning after getting the leadoff hitter. He then hit the next two hitters and gave up run-scoring singles to James Wooster and Jared Cosart. The Wildcats, who dropped to 3-3 in loop play, scored the final run of the inning on an infield grounder.
Brazoswood came roaring back in its half of the inning with four straight hits. Jake Gonzales singled to left, followed by a single up the middle by Joseph Reyes and then a sharp single to center by Nick Bacica to load the bases full of Bucs.
Epo Albarado then came up with the first of his two big hits on the night, a double down the rightfield line that plated two runs to cut the margin to 3-2.
Albarados shot came off pitcher Cosart, who took over for starter Jack Pollard after he gave up the first three hits of the inning.
With Bucs on second and third, it appeared Cosart had the runner on third picked off. But his throw went well over the third basemans head and to the fence, allowing both runners to score and give Brazoswood a 4-3 lead.
Both pitchers settled in until Clear Creek knotted the score with a single run in the sixth inning. Speedster Jeremy Brooks led off the inning with a bad-hop single over Corams outstretched glove and then raced around to third moments later on a sacrifice bunt.
Brooks then scored the tying run on a sharp single by Cosart up the middle. Like they had all night, the Bucs got right back off the turf swinging. In the bottom of the sixth, the Bucs got their first hitter on via an error by the Creek shortstop, who made a nice play deep in the hole going to his left, but then threw wildly to first allowing Reyes to reach.
Bacica then layed down a sacrifice bunt and Albarado came through by smashing a run-scoring single up the middle to give the Bucs a 5-4 lead.
Albarado went to second on the play at the plate and advanced to third on a wild pitch before scoring on an infield single by Coram to make it 6-4. Coram later came around to score the final run of the game on a wild pitch.
Camp, who finished with five strike outs, set the Wildcats down in order in the seventh to pick up the win.
Clear Creek had left runners on base the previous six innings, and finished by stranding 10 on the night.
After starting the contest with four straight hits, the Bucs had only one more baserunner until the big rally in the sixth. In that frame, the Bucs had hits by Albarado and Coram, along with two crucial errors by the visitors. Creek finished with four errors, while the Bucs had none.
Brazoswood (13-11, 2-4) travels to Alvin on Thursday for a 7 p.m. start.
Game Notes:
Epo Albarado, Ben Coram, Tyler Camp have a breakthrough night for the Bucs.
"The District 24-5A Shootout"- Bucs continue home winning streak over rival Creek at Wilson Field.
Bucs pass a key district test, wrap up the first half of the district season on a winning note...the road to the playoffs always seems to go through the guys from League City. Beating Creek shows the potential for the 2007 Bucs to finish hard. Now is the time to get tough.
Key battles remain with Alvin, G Ball, Brook, Pearland, Lake, Creek
Bucs put themselves right back in the 24-5A race
Creek phenom (Lake transfer) Cosart makes his debut at Wilson Field in a Creek jersey
District race tightens
Creek assistant named head coach of the new Clear Springs High School.

New! **Site Blog for 2007
|
So the 2007 season is upon us and the district is looking wide open as usual. One thing is for certain, you never know who will surprise you in this district....or in Region III for that matter. For that reason, bucbaseball.org will tend to stay out of the prediction business. We hope you enjoy:
24-5A outlook:
Alvin is looking tough this year with a veteran team...they may get over the hump this year.
Mallory's Cats are looking dapper as usual and they return some weapons such as pitcher- Jared Cosart, speedy Jereme Brooks to name a couple.
Lake has been tough in the last three years, Pearland keeps knocking at the door, Brook may surprise folks and Galveston Ball always puts up a fight.
April 19, 2007 24-5A Update:
REBUILDING PROCESS- So the season appears headed for a close and the Bucs have experienced a rebuilding season...most people knew that Alvin returned alot of experience this year. Good luck to our Brazoria County neighbor to the North. The Bucs will be back...that is a fact.
LADY BUCS- Great job on advancing to the Region Semifinals!!! Good luck to all the senior Bucs in college!

New Changes on the horizon for 24-5A Baseball:
Many changes are on the horizon, and soon, District 24-AAAAA as we know it today will never be the same. The explosion of Pearland has forced the building of two new high schools. The first- Glenda Dawson High School is already in the works and is being built on Cullen Boulevard (West Pearland). A second new high school yet to be named, will occupy the current Pearland Junior High School campuses. The plan is to combine the two junior highs into one high school.
Alvin ISD already has built Manvel High School, and the Mavs will eventually make it into Class 5A one day. Clear Creek ISD is building three new high schools. One is already about to open- Clear Springs. Clear Springs (the Chargers) is located on the Western side of I-45 in League City off of Palomino Lane and will open Fall 2007 and get this- our friends at CCISD love us so much, that they adopted the B'wood colors: blue and silver, for their new high school!! LOL. Whatever happens, it will be interesting to see what new rivalries will develop and it will be sad to see old rivalries fade as new districts are formed.
These are my future scenarios for a future realignment:
District X:
(Like Sugar Land and Missouri City did, Clear Lake, League City, and Friendswood will make their own district)
Clear Creek Wildcats
Clear Lake Falcons
Clear Brook Wolverines
Clear Springs Chargers (League City)
CCISD HS #5 (in Seabrook)
CCISD HS #6
District Y:
(A Brazoria County 5A District)
Brazoswood Bucs
Alvin YellowJackets
Manvel Mavericks
Pearland Oilers
Pearland Glenda Dawson HS
Pearland HS #3 (to be at the current PHS 9th grade center location on Bailey Road in Pearland)
(Angleton could rejoin if they ever come back to 5A)
