Cats Get A 9 - 2 Win Over Chiefs In Rain-Shortened Game
Brampton broke out for nine runs in the first three innings to take the lead in a rain shortened game in Dundas. The two teams managed to play into the bottom of the sixth inning before the skies opened up and flooded Volunteer Field. Ken Appleby scored three times as well as blasting a double to right centre field. Matt Held continued his hot hitting by going two for four with three RBI's. Pitcher Mike Burke held the Chiefs to 3 hits in the five innings that counted for the game which will be recorded as a 9 - 2 win. The Cats come home to play the powerful Erindale Cardinals on Friday night July 25/08 at Chris Gibson Diamond, game time 7:30pm.

Saturday, July 19
Battlecats outlast The Grizzlies

The Cats took on a tired and depleted Glanbrook team who were playing their 4th game in 5 days on Friday July 18/08. The spunky Grizzlies held off the Cats until the 8th inning when Ken Appleby doubled home the go ahead run and Mike Benyo later singled Ken home. Chris McCanna had another stellar outing allowing only two earned runs over eight innings. The Grizz's Taylor Buck also pitched extremely well before being lifted in the 8th. Jesse Edmunds relieved McCanna in the top of the ninth and got the save pitching a scoreless inning. Matt Held had two doubles and a two run single. Brampton next travels to Dundas to face the Chiefs on Tuesday July 22/08. 7:30pm game start.

Thursday, July 17
Tigers edge Cats

Tiger pitchers stymied the Cats batters in their final regular season meeting at Syntex park on Wednesday July 16/08. With Mississauga leading 3 - 1 Matt Piccioni banged his first homerun of the season to tie the score.  The Tigers got 2 runs off  Jesse Edmunds after he relieved Joe McLaughlin in seventh inning. In the top of the 8th, Ken Appleby walked with the bases loaded and two out, to make the score 5 - 4. Matt Piccioni attempted to steal home on a wild pitch and was out on a controversial call. The Cats were not able to recover and the game ended with Mississauga winning 5 - 4. Brampton comes home to face the Glanbrook Grizzlies on Friday July 18/08 at FCCC Park 7:30pm start.

Sunday, July 13
Cats Split with Rangers.

The Cats have been getting great pitching as of late and that continued into Sunday's double header with the division leaders, Etobicoke Rangers. In game 1, Mike Burke kept the Rangers hitless for 6 - 2/3 innings before giving up a single. The Cats were unable to score in the top of the 8th and in the bottom of the inning the Rangers were able to score the winning run on a single that brought in a runner from second. Kudos have to be given to both Mike Burke and to Ranger's pitcher Shawn Silk.  Game 1, Etobicoke 1 - Brampton 0.

In the second game, Joey Nonis took the mound and held Etobicoke to only one run to get his 2nd win of the season. A big difference in this game was the Battlecat Bats, which really came to life. It was a real team effort as everyone, up and down the lineup, got at least a hit. The defense was excellent and an acknowledgement to Allan Hughes who caught both ends of the double header. We sometimes forget how important game calling by the catchers is. The Cats have had their problems, at times this year, but it is good to see it coming together for the boys as they all deserve  high fives for sticking to it and giving a great effort. Game 2, Brampton 13 - Etobicoke 1. Brampton next travels to Mississauga to face the Tigers on Wednesday July 16 and then home on Friday July 18/08 at FCCC Park to play the Glanbrook Grizzlies for the first time this year.

Saturday, July 12
Red Sox edge Battlecats.
Friday, July 11/08 game with Milton was perhaps the finest pitching duel seen in recent memory. Battlecat, Chris McCanna, threw a complete, 9 inning game but unfortunetely took the loss in a 2 - 1 defeat. Milton hurler, Mike Grabauskas tossed a 4 hitter as he stymied the Cats over his 7 innings. Stangely, all the runs scored were unearned. Ryan Knight singled, stole two bases and scored. Brampton doesn't have much time to recover as they head to Etobicoke on Sunday July 13/08 for a double header against the Division leading Rangers.

Friday, July 11
Burlington down The Battlecats
Two wily veterans, Battlecat Joe Nonis and Brants Chris Cooney, hooked up in a great pitchers duel for 5 innings at Nelson Park. The Cats got on the board quickly with Mike Benyo hitting a bomb to make the score 1 - 0 in the top of the first inning. The Brants got 2 runs after a costly error and never looked back going on to a 6 - 1 win. The Cats get back in action on Friday, hopefully with a full bench, to face the Red Sox at Chris Gibson Park, 7:30pm start. They also travel to Etobicoke on Sunday July 13/08 for a double header starting at 12:00pm.

Tuesday, July 8
Cullen Blasts the Battlecats

The Battlecat's nemesis, Geoff Cullen, did it again by smashing 2 Homeruns and a 2 run single in a 12 - 5 drubbing on Monday July 7/08 at Cardinal Park. Culley seems to feast on Brampton pitching as he accounted for 7 of Erindale's 12 runs. The Cats got off to a good start, leading 3 - 1 when Cullen Blasted a grand slam to make the score 5 - 3 . Brampton battled back to tie the game on a run scoring single by rookie Jordan Beatty but that was all the Cats would get. It doesn't get any easier as the Cats travel to Burlington to face the Johnson division leaders on Wednesday July 9/08. They come home on Friday the 11th to take on the Milton Red Sox at Chris Gibson Diamond, 7:30pm start.

Sunday, June 29
Mother Nature 1, Rick Wiseman Tournament 0
The Cats arrived in Windsor on a beautiful and hot Friday afternoon only to find out that an earlier, severe thunderstorm, had flooded the field at Lacasse Park in Tecumseh. The organizers were hoping to push back the games to Saturday and try and make up those that were cancelled. Brampton was resecheduled to Sat. morning at Cullen field for a 9:30AM start. However when they arrived they found the grounds crew desperately working on the diamond to get it into shape after an over night downpour. It took them over 2 hours to get the field ready and the game started at 10:50AM. Mother nature was not going to let the tournament continue and after an inning and third the skies opened up once again and the entire weekend had to be cancelled.

Saturday, June 21
Cats lose 2 and win 1 in Weekend Series.

On Friday June 20/08 the Cats struggled against the Oakville A's committing 5 errors in an inning and a third before settling down. Chris McCanna had his best outing in a few years only to be let down by his defense. In some rare highlights, Ryan Knight continued his base stealing escapades and Mike Benyo extended his hitting streak to nine games. The story was much different on Sat. June 21/08 when the, new look, Dundas Chiefs came to town. Although the bats are still a little cold, Brampton split a double header losing the first game 5 - 1 and winning the secomd match 3 - 2. Veteran Battlecat, Joe Nonis picked up his first win of the season going 6 and 2/3 innings. Rookie Jordan Beatty came in from his 3rd base position to secure the save. The Cats take a break from league play as they travel to Windsor, Ontario for the annual Rick Wiseman, Can-Am Tournament, on the weekend of June 27, 28 & 29/08

Tuesday, June 17
Oakville Stymies Cats Again:

The A's jumped out to a 7 - 1 lead in the first 3 innings of their game with Brampton on Monday June 16/08 after pitchers Mike Burke and Joe McLaughlin struggled with their control. Joe settled down shut down the A's for his next 2 innings and Joey Nonis came in to also hold the A's scoreless for innings 7 & 8. The Cats bats were cold as they only were able to get 5 hits off Oakville pitching. Ryan Knight used his speed to steal four bases as he rattled the A's pitchers whenever he was on base.. Mike Benyo rapped a 2 run double. Oakville comes to Brampton on Friday June 20/08 as a completetion of a rained out game, for a 7:30pm start at FCCC Park.

Sunday, June 15
CATS GET HOT IN JUNE

Just as the weather is starting to warm up, so are the Battlecats. The Cats have won two out of the three games they played this month. In just 3 games in June, Brampton more than doubled their run output for the entire month May. The Cats faced the new look Burlington Brants and split their doubleheader winning the first game 9 - 4 and just losing the second 5 - 3. The Brants are first in the Johnson division. Their next opponents were the feisty Tigers from Mississauga N. After trailing the Tigers for most of the game, the Cats went ahead by a score of 7 -6 which held up until the top of the ninth when Brampton scored four times to take a 11 - 6 lead. Closer Brad McLaughlin shut down Mississauga and also got the win. Brampton's next home game is Friday June 20/08 when the Oakville A's come to town to play the rained out game from May 30. There is no rest for the Cats as Dundas comes in for a double header on Saturday June 21/08 starting at 12"00pm. The Cats will travel to Oakville on Monday June 16/08 for a tilt with Oakville, 7:30pm start.

Tuesday, May 27
Erindale Squeak Past Cats
Despite losing their 5th game, the Cats had their best outing of the season in a 4 -3 loss to the powerful Erindale Cardinals. Pitchers Brad McLaughlin and Joey Nonis held the Cardinal batters to 7 hits while the team broke out for 10 themselves. The hitting was capped off by a towering home run to LF by Mike Benyo. Kenny Appleby continued his strong batting, rapping two singles. Brampton's next game is Friday May 30/08 when the Oakville As come to town. This game will be played at Dash Field with a 7:30pm start.

Saturday, May 24
Metros Bounce Cats

The Cats bats were as cold as the weather was again when they faced the always powerful St. Catharines Metros on Friday May 23/08. Brampton made it a game for five innings on the strong pitching of Mike Burke. Big Bird went the five innings and only allowed 2 hits. The Metros jumped on the Cats when they took advantage of the 3 walks and a hit batsman to score 7 runs in the 7th. The killer blow was a bases clearing double by Brad Namtzu. After a shaky start, Chris McCanna regained his composure and shut the Metros down for the final 2 innings. Brampton travels to Erindale to face the division leading Cardinals on Monday May 26/08.

Thursday, May 22
Cats lose games 2 and 3.
After a disheartening loss to Mississauga in their home opener, the Cats were hoping to rebound in games 2 and 3 of the 2008 season. Unfortunetely, the bats were as cold as as the weather and Brampton lost both games to the Oakville As and last years COBA Major Champs, Milton Red Sox. The Cats will face the powerful, St. Catharines Mteros on Friday May 23/08 at Dash Park and hope to heat up just as the temperature is supposed to do.
