82 YEARS OF CAMPERS FOOTBALL

"Winning isn't everything...but it sure beats losing"

Here we go again CAMPER FANS...another exciting year of Allegany Campers Football is upon us again.  After last years dramatic accomplishments, 2007 will be hard to dublicate.  13-1 overall, 1A West Champions for the 3rd time in 4 years and another trip to M&T Bank Stadium for another try at Championship #9...WHAT A YEAR!!!

However, with all the returning stars from the wonderful 2007 season, 2008 looks to be another banner year for the Blue and White.  Many returning seniors and an outstanding batch of juniors that were the nucleus of last years team.

Just in case you were living on Mars, Head Coach Tom Preaskorn has returned from his duties in Iraq.  Now that is motivation for the team to rally around.  The 2008 season is just about to get started and the Campers are loaded for bear and another run for all the Marbles!

GO 2008 CAMPERS

HERE'S THE BEEF...ALCO'S JUSTIN HYMES

JUSTIN HYMES IS IN THE NEWS AGAIN!
Heres the Beef

"THE BEEF" IS AT IT AGAIN!

Allegany's Justin Hymes has been sitting on three offers for a month now, but the rising senior has been doing anything but sitting around.

The 6-foot-4, 261-pound offensive lineman has been busy camping at Boston College, Maryland and West Virginia in the past month.

Hymes said he had his best performance at the West Virginia camp earlier this week.

"I had some of my best numbers. I had a 5.3 laser 40 and a 4.8 shuttle," Hymes said. "I was pretty happy about that and I think something good is going to come out of it and I don't think I could have done any better at the camp. I had to as close to the perfect day as I could have."

The Cumberland native grew up watching Mountaineer football and coaches were pleased with his performance, begging the question - what if they offer?

"I really, really want West Virginia (to offer)," Hymes said. "If they were to offer I'd probably commit there. When I went there I just fell in love with everything."

The offensive lineman wants to commit before the season, so if the West Virginia offer does not come through he will choose from the offers he currently holds.

Harvard is second on his list of schools behind WVU and starting Saturday, July 12, Hymes is attending the Crimson four-day camp in Boston.

"With West Virginia you have top level football, but here you have top level academics and still quality football," Hymes said.

Hymes helped lead Allegany to the Class 1A state title game last year hold offers from Maryland, Akron, Harvard and Towson.

From the Allegany football fans and the Big Blue Review...YOU GO JUSTIN!

SHOOTING FOR ANOTHER TITLE

WELL CAMPERS FANS....you know its football season when the Big Blue Review comes out with the 2008 Allegany Camper's Football scrimmage schedule.

This year the Campers welcome back a familiar opponent in the Bishop Walsh Spartans at Greenway, then travel to Vienna, VA., to take on the Warhawks of James Madison and the final scrimmage is at Greenway Avenue vs. St. Albans.

This will give us all a good indicator as to how our Campers will do this season, especially against the larger Madison and Albans teams.

2008 SCRIMMAGE SCHEDULE

Thurs Aug 21          Bishop Walsh Spartans               Home          7 p.m.

Sat Aug 23             James Madison Warhawks         Away           7 p.m.

Fri Aug 29              St. Albans                                    Home          4 p.m.

So here is your chance Camper fans to come out and see the 2008 version of the Campers in action.  The Campers are returning many of the players from last years 13-1 team and look to be in the mix again for the 2008 season.

I hope to see you all at the stadium and of course...cheer on our CAMPERS!

IT'S FOOTBALL SEASON!

What does that mean...well...football is just around the corner...that's what!

The eighth annual Tri-State Area youth Football Camp will be held July 22-23 from 6 to 8 p.m. and July 24 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Allegany High School.

The camp will be presented by the players and coaching staff of the West Region champion Allegany Campers and is open to all area youths entering grades K-8 this fall.

The camp offers beginners an introduction to the basic fundamentals of football and offers the experienced players an opportunity to develop and improve skills.  There will be competitions and prizes nightly following the instructional stations.  Pee Wee and CAYFL players are encouraged to attend, as well as any child wanting to try the game for possible participation in organized teams.  No previous football experience is needed, and there is no weight or size limit.

Pre-registration will be held Thursday, June 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, June 14 from 10 a.m. to noon in front of the gymnasium at Allegany high school.  The cost of the camp is $30 dollars, ($25 for siblings) and includes a camp shirt.

Cookbook Fundraiser

The Allegany High School Gridiron Club will be accepting recipes for a cookbook entitled “Allegany High School Gridiron….The Recipes of Champions!” This book will be different than any other community/school based cookbook because it will have recipes with titles honoring the students, staff and parents of football and cheerleaders.

Titles like ‘The Beef Hymes Burger’, or Hansel’s Hot Taco Salad!  Let your imagination soar and this could be a best seller. We are asking for each family to add 2 recipes to this book. Personalized titles are not necessary for both recipes. Pictures will be included in this book. We hope to have 300 + recipes!

This fundraiser will only be a success with your help. This is a project that you will be proud to be a part of.

The ‘Recipes of Champions’

would make a great gift for family or friends. Enclosed you will find a form to document your recipes. For those of us that prefer a computer, please email your recipes to;

 tlfadley@atlanticbb.net or tammycollette@hotmail.com.

Please double check your recipe(s) accuracy before turning them in. Recipes must be returned by June 01, 2008 to be included in the book. This book will be printed and ready for distribution September 1, 2008.

Here is an idea for the cover of the book. Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated. The cover will be laminated and coil bound.

Come on CAMPER FANS...lets make this a big fund raiser for our school, teams and of course all our athletes.

ALLEGANY HIGH SCHOOL

GRID IRON CLUB

616 Sedgwick Street, Cumberland, MD  21502

The Allegany Gridiron is planning an events calendar for Allegany High School that will include the following sports: Football, Band, Basketball, Baseball, Cheerleading, Softball, Track/Cross Country, Volleyball, Wrestling, Soccer, and Tennis/Golf/Bowling.

This calendar will have games, competitions and other dates and information included for each organization. It will also highlight your sport on the appropriate month in which you are most active.

The Gridiron is only asking that we are supplied with your pertinent information. If you choose to participate in the selling of these calendars, you will be given half the profits from each calendar sold.  Profits are not known until we determine how many organizations are willing to sell the calendar. The more calendars we order, the lower the cost of the calendar.

Your organization will be included regardless of your decision to sell. Please let me know your organizations intent on participating in this fundraiser. Gridiron is doing all the initial work; all you have to do to make money is help sell the calendar.

Please contact Teresa Fadley @ 301 707-2711 or email me at;

Some new faces on the 2008 schedule in Hampshire, Mt. St. Joseph and the brand new....first year of football Washington High School from Charles Town, WV.  Washington is a new school that split with Jefferson HS in Shenendoah Juction, WV.

The Campers have not played Hampshire since 2005.  In 05, the Campers at home defeated the Trojans 41-13.  The previous year, the Trojans handed the Big Blue a big upset in Romney with a 8-7 win in 1 of 3 games the Campers lost that year.

Mount Saint Joseph is a school from Baltimore who went 6-4 last season.  This will be the first meeting of the Campers and the Gaels.  The Gaels are known for their speed and passing ability and should be a very good contest for the Campers.  Most of you will remember St. Joes from previous years of scrimmages with Fort Hill prior to their seasons.

So Camper fans....strap on your hats, it could be a very interesting year.  The Big Blue Review hopes to see you all at the games this year and.....

GO CAMPERS!

THE GRID IRON...MAKING IT HAPPEN FOR THE TEAM

YOU WANT TO SUPPORT ALLEGANY CAMPERS FOOTBALL...

ITS EASY!

The Allegany High School Grid Iron Club supports the activities of the Campers Football program by selling items at the Grid Iron Booth at Greenway Avenue stadium, sell lottery tickets at the games as well as the weekly programs you buy before each home game.

During all the home games, the Grid Iron has given away T-shirts and Homecoming 2005 blankets to those lucky people who simply buy a program and have the correct markings on the selected page in those programs.  These are just a few things that the Grid Iron Club does for the team.

If you would like to see the vast array of items the Grid Iron sells at the booth at Greenway, you can simply look to the left hand side of this screen and click on the Grid Iron Products section and see what all they have.  You will be surprised as to all the different items of spirit and motivational items the club carries for all Camper Fans.

You can buy them at the stadium of course, it is so easy you'll come back often.

SO....YOU WANT TO SUPPORT ALLEGANY FOOTBALL...THIS IS IT!

A very important thing for all those who need to know, the Allegany High School Grid Iron Club supports the activities of the football team.  Items like end of season jackets, championship rings, supplying food after home games and providing funds for away game dinners.  Purchasing the "Big A" at the stadium, the 25 second time clocks at the stadium and the team run through tunnel of a few years ago.  Also, the Grid Iron is solely responsible for the football programs that we all enjoy at the stadium each and every week at Greenway and they help purchase necessary equipment when needed.  That is just a few items of interest.  So you can see how vitally important this club is to the school and team.

An even more important item to remember is that all funds collected during the season and after the season by the Grid Iron Club, goes directly back to support the football program at Allegany High School.

So, you want to help.  That is easy.  The Grid Iron Club always needs volunteers to help out with selling programs, in the booth or just simply help out the club when needed.  At $5.00 a year dues, you can't go wrong by helping out one of, if not
the finest high school football program in the state of Maryland.

SO COME ON OUT AND GIVE THEM A HAND...

YOU WON'T REGRET IT!
