Berwyn Paoli Area Little League sends
3,000 pound in Care Packages
to former players serving in the military
October 8, 2008 (Berwyn, PA) – Berwyn Paoli Area Little League (BPALL) collected more than 3,000 pounds of basic amenities for US Troops stationed overseas. In addition to supporting our troops, this activity is an opportunity to instill in the Little League participants a sense of community and help them appreciate the sacrifices others make for them.
“Words cannot express my (and my sons) gratitude for your generosity and thoughtfulness! Thanks you so much!” Katrinia Abell of Malvern expressed her appreciation for the boxes sent to her son Jason Murray currently serving.
Lt. Dave Brennan, a Navy SEAL currently serving in overseas, wrote a letter of thanks last spring in which he stated that, “your recognition and support is greatly appreciated by all of us who serve.” Earlier this year BPALL asked its families to put themselves in the soldiers’ shoes and think “if I were on a really long mission, what is something I would want to have to help keep my mind off the cold or heat?” The families stepped up – in a big league way – and this year BPALL officials estimate that they received double the amount donated in 2007. All told, BPALL sent goodies to nineteen different young men and women serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, Italy, German, Japan and USA.
Over the course of several weeks, hundreds of families brought simple items such as shampoo, bars of soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, boot socks and candy. A list of suggested items was distributed to the league and one generous family bought two of everything on the list! According to BPALL president, Kurt Misialek, “the response from the community has been overwhelming.” Several teams coordinated their effort. For example, the Red Sox coached by Dave Donavan approached the donation area as a team and presented a stack of phone cards.
SA Glen Gibson who received a care package in Bagdad, Iraq, wrote to BPALL and shared that .. “It's always nice to get a package in the mail and yours was one of the best! Definitely some top notch stuff. Most of it went as soon as I got it out of the box!” Berwyn Paoli Area Little League is proud to support those serving in the armed forces.
Berwyn Paoli Area Little League is a Qualified Charity under IRS 501©(3). Any donations made to BPALL are totally tax deductible. BPALL mailing address is PO Box 473, Paoli, PA 19301.2008 Pennsylvania Junior League Champions! (Now above, 2006 below)
