Upcoming Fall Races & Bears Youth Running Program starts Wednesday, September 3rd (info & Application)
THE 14TH SEASON OF THE BEARS YOUTH RUNNING PROGRAM STARTS ON WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 3RD. PRACTICES WILL BE HELD ON MONDAY AND WEDNESDAY FROM 5 TO 6 AT SWARTSWOOD STATE PARK. THE PROGRAM IS OPEN TO MIDDLE AND ELEMENTARY AGED KIDS (KIDS 2ND GRADE AND UNDER MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY A PARENT OR THE FIRST PORTION OF PRACTICE). FEE IS $25 FOR THE ENTIRE SEASON WHICH RUNS FROM SEPTEMBER 3RD THROUGH THANKSGIVING. THE PROGRAM'S VOLUNTEER COACHES INSTILL THE MANY PHYSICAL AND MENTAL BENEFITS OF RUNNING IN THE KIDS IN A FIT AND FUN ENVIRONMENT. THERE ARE SEVERAL THEMED RACES AS PART OF PRACTICE AND PRIZES THROUGHOUT. KIDS ALSO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO RACE ON WEEKENDS.

Fall 2008 Bears Youth Running Program
Entering its 13th season, The Bears Youth Running Program has already touched the lives of over 450 children. The program is open to elementary and middle school kids and runs from September to Thanksgiving. It entails two practices each week during which volunteer coaches teach kids about running and instill in them the many positive physical and mental aspects of the sport, setting and achieving goals and being on a team. No child is turned away, and kids of all different abilities are part of The Bears. We make practices fun.
Practices: Monday and Wednesday evenings from 5 to 6 PM at Swartswood State Park, Route 619 in Newton - Practice will begin on Wednesday, September 3rd,
(Since our coaches volunteer their time, we ask that parents be prompt with drop off /pick up time)
Races: We hold several races as part of practice: The Columbus Day Mile, The Halloween Mile (followed by a costume competition) and The Thanksgiving Mile. In addition, if they so desire, our kids have the option to race on Sundays against other kids their age at Brundage Park in Randolph.
