Misson Statement
Portland Bayside Little League is a non-profit organization run by volunteers whose mssion is to provide an opportunity for our community’s children to learn the games of baseball and softball in a safe and friendly environment.

The objective of Portland Bayside Little League is to implant firmly in the children of the community the ideals of good sportsmanship, honesty, loyalty, courage, and respect for authority, so that they may be well-adjusted, stronger, and happier children and will grow to be good, decent, healthy, and trustworthy citizens.

To achieve this objective, Portland Bayside Little League will provide a supervised program under the Rules and Regulations of Little League Baseball, Incorporated. All Directors, Officers, and Members shall bear in mind that the attainment of exceptional athletic skill or the winning of games is secondary, and the molding of future citizens is of prime importance.

Registration

Little League Baseball registrations for children ages 5 to 16 will take place at the following dates and locations:

Monday,  Feb. 11, 2007         Clifford Elementary School            180 Falmouth St.
Tueday,   Feb. 26, 2007         East End Community School           195 North St.
Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2007   Presumpscot Elementary School   69 Presumpscot St.
                          All registration events are from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

You may register at any location. An official copy of the player's birth certificate issued by the state, county, or municipal government is required to be shown before the child may play. A notarized copy is not acceptable. 

All players must bring at least 3 original items for address verification, NO P.O. BOXES.  Only 1 item from each of the 17 categories below will be accepted:

  • Maine State Driver’s license
  • Maine State Vehicle registration
  • 1 utility bill (CMP, Northern Utilities, PWD, Verizon)
  • Time Warner cable / DirecTV satellite bill
  • City of Portland Voter registration
  • City of Portland school records
  • City of Portland records (property tax bill)
  • Credit card or bank statement
  • Employment records, paycheck stub
  • Homeowner/renter records
  • Child support records
  • Insurance records
  • Military records
  • Medical records
  • Federal records
  • State records
  • Welfare/child care records


You may also register by mail or online. Registration and medical release forms may be obtained under Forms and Documents. Mail both forms with a photocopy of birth certificate and the appropriate registration fee payable to:

Registration fees are as follows:
     T-Ball $40
     Minors & Majors $50
     Jr/Sr Softball $55
     Jr/Sr Baseball $75
There is a maximum fee of $100 per immediate family. Forms may also be downloaded, filled out ahead of time and brought to a registration site to save time. There will be a $10 processing fee for late registrations after March 16th. All children who are registered will play regardless of ability to pay.

Tryouts

Tryouts for Majors Baseball and Softball (sometimes called “Little League”) will take place at the following times and locations:

Sunday, March 9, 2008   Portland High Gym Noon – Softball   1:00 pm - Baseball
Sunday, March 16, 2008 Deering High Gym  Noon – Softball   1:00 pm - Baseball

A player may tryout on either day. Although not mandatory if a player does not intend on playing Majors, all players league age 9 or above not already on a Majors team are encouraged to attend a tryout. A baseball player is league age 9 if born before May 1, 1999 and a softball player is league age 9 if born before Jan 1, 1999. Any player not trying out will be assigned to a Minors level team. All players should wear sneakers and bring a glove. Although not necessary, a player may bring a personal bat. Tryouts will consist of running, throwing, catching, fielding and hitting.
