The team was formed in the summer of 2006 and played its first season of travel soccer in the fall of 2006. After tying one game and losing one game in a preseason tournament, the Wolves had a very successful regular season, winning seven games, losing just one game, and finishing in 2nd place among the nine ODSL U-9 girls teams.
Prior to the spring 2007 season, the Wolves participated in the Prince William Icebreaker tournament and earned the distinction of “finalist” by playing in the championship game. The highlight of the tournament for the Wolves was a thrilling victory in the semifinal game, which included two overtime periods and a shootout.
During the spring 2007 season, the Wolves were very successful again - winning 7 games, losing 1 game, and finishing in 1st place among the seven ODSL U-9 girls teams. During the fall 2007 season, the Wolves won all 8 ODSL games and the ODSL Division 1 Championship.
Over the first three seasons of play in the ODSL, the Wolves have won 22 games and lost 2 games, scoring 88 goals and allowing 15 goals.
Following the fall 2007 season, the Wolves played in the Hunt Country Classic Tournament, winning all 4 games, including an exciting 1-0 victory in the championship game.
Prior to the spring 2008 season, the Wolves competed in the inaugural FPYC Liberty Cup tournament. Playing in the top division with five WAGS teams, the Wolves again earned the distinction of finalist by reaching the final game and losing a very competitive game 1-0.
The team is comprised of eleven players (nine from eastern Loudoun County and two from western Fairfax County). The team is coached by Rick Bender, who played varsity soccer for the University of Delaware and who has coached many successful girls teams (from ages 8 to 18) at the recreational, All Star, and travel levels (including Division 1 ODSL and Division 2 WAGS teams). Andy Adams serves as the assistant coach.
Coach Rick has no daughters on the team (his two daughters are now young adults), and he coaches the team on a voluntary basis because he enjoys teaching girls how to play soccer. Coach Rick has high expectations for the girls and constantly challenges them to play their best in both practices and games.
The girls have been working hard to learn more about the game of soccer, improve their individual skills, and play together as a team, both offensively and defensively. Coach Rick and the parents are very proud of the girls' progress to date, and look forward to even better things in the seasons to come.
During the fall and spring seasons, the team practices twice a week (on Thursdays and Saturdays) and plays games on Sundays. The team also competes in one or two tournaments each season and plays in an indoor soccer league at the Dulles Sportsplex during the winter. Please see the "Calendar" link on this page for our schedule.
The Wolves have been fortunate to have several sponsors, whose financial support has been very helpful to the team in paying expenses for uniforms, tournaments, etc. Please see the "Sponsors" link on this page for a list of those sponsors.
Additional sponsors are welcomed at any time. Click here to learn how to become a sponsor.
