2008 Youth Winter Developmental Clinic
Brodie’s Soccer Academy is offering the 2008 Winter Developmental Clinics, which will be directed by Ashburn Soccer Club Coach Royce Brodie, a nationally licensed coach with years of success and experience preparing youth teams/players for premier play.  The clinics are open to all players of various ages and ability.  This is an excellent opportunity for players who are serious about soccer and would like to improve their foot skills and learn how to play exciting possession oriented soccer in a premier travel team environment.

Brodie’s Soccer Academy Youth Development Program
The Soccer Academy Youth Development Program is a development academy where players will receive age-appropriate training and playing opportunities under the direction of a dedicated and nationally licensed coach. The focus is on the joy of play and the development of technical skills, ball control, and foot skills.  Older club players participate regularly in training and offer insight, friendship, and positive role models for our younger players.

Do you want some extra touches on the ball this winter?  Brodie's Soccer Academy is offering training sessions throughout the winter in multiple indoor facilities around Northern Virginia – (Ashburn, Sterling, and Leesburg).  The sessions are open to all players interested in developing, improving, and maintaining their skills over the winter months.  Programs being offered are as follows:

Coach Brodie's Team Philosophy
Our Team's Philosophy is to help your child reach her full potential as an advanced soccer player in a fun and competitive environment and develop a love and passion for the game of soccer.

We will strive to develop a premier soccer team, but not at the cost of enjoyment for our players. We will teach "possession" & "ball control" and not "direct" (sometimes called "kick-ball" "Kick and run") style of play. Although a "direct" style of soccer gives you quick results, a team well versed in "possession" & "ball control" style of soccer will almost always beat a team using the "direct" style of play. Give and go passing, overlapping runs, laying the ball back, playing the ball out of the back, moving with the ball to space, moving without the ball to create space, and proficiency with the weak foot take much more time to teach and master. These are the skills required to play competitively at the state and national levels and what is referred to as a "premier" level of soccer.

The player who is interested in learning how to play "possession" & "ball control" style of soccer should understand what is required. Speed, agility, physical fitness, coachability, intelligence, unselfishness on the field, and commitment are extremely important traits. Equally important is patience, by the player and parents, as it takes longer to learn "possession" &"ball control" soccer. The team may not win all of their games the first couple of seasons, but over the long term, both the players and team will be more successful with this approach. Remember, "The Game played correctly is the Best Teacher".
