The Arlington Better Sports Club will hold its 51st Annual Awards Banquet on Wednesday, May 30 at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 5115 Little Falls Road, in Arlington. Guest Speaker is former Redskin and sports analyst Trevor Matich.
Matich played in the NFL from 1985 through 1996 – his last three seasons with the Washington Redskins. He played college football at BYU where he was a two-time all-conference offensive lineman in the WAC. He was a first-round pick by the New England Patriots in the 1985 NFL draft. After four seasons with the Patriots, he played for the Detroit Lions and New York Jets. While playing for the Indianapolis Colts (1992-1993), he was nicknamed the "Hardest Working Man in Pro Football" due to his constant practicing and warming up on the sidelines. He played mainly as a long snapper, before turning his attention to the broadcast booth. He provides game analysis for ESPN College Football, and has appeared as an analyst on Fox 5 Redskins’
pre-game/post-game shows.
Sportsmanship awards will be presented to Arlington’s top student-athletes.
The Arlington Male and Female Athlete of the Year will be recognized along with the Arlington Coach of the Year. The Billy Castleberry Award (outstanding club member) and Arlington Sportsman of the Year will also be honored.
Hospitality suite opens at 6:00, ceremonies begin at 7:00 and dinner is served at 7:30. Veteran local sportscaster Ken Mease will be Master of Ceremonies.
Tickets ($35 each and tables of 8 for $270) are available from Chris Turner at (703) 709-2522. You must order tickets prior to banquet.
We are also still in need of boosters to support the banquet. Your contribution will support Arlington youth sports and is 100% tax deductible.
