HOTSPUR 99 GIRLS / 97 BOYS ROSE CITY CHAMPIONS

The Hotspur 99 Girls and 97 Boys traveled to Thomasville on September 27 & 28 to participate in the Rose City Invitational.  Both returned as tournament champions.  The 99 Girls Blue began play Saturday with a 2-1 victory over Tallahassee United.  They followed this up with a 8-0 victory over Valdosta/Lowndes.  Their play Saturday earned them a spot in the final with a game still to play Sunday against Hotspur 99 White who despite losing both games Saturday put 6 goals in the back of the net.  The Blue team came away victorious advancing to the final for a rematch with Tallahassee United.  Both teams played well but Hotspur came away with a 4-2 victory and the championship.  

 The 97 Boys put together an impressive set of games Saturday posting two shutouts on the way to 7-0 and 8-0 victories over Valdosta/Lowndes and Moultrie YMCA earning them a spot in the final with a game still to play.  Sunday morning's match pitted the boys against the Thomas Area Raiders who had also secured a spot in the final.  The teams fought to a draw.  The championship match also ended tied at the end of regulation, but Hotspur was able to find the back of the net in the 2nd overtime to bring home the championship.  Congratulations to both teams.



ALBANY REFEREE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN 2008 US YOUTH SOCCER SOUTHERN REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Blake Williams has been invited to referee at the 2008 US Youth Soccer Southern Regional Championships held June 19 - 25, 2009 in Raliegh, North Carolina. The State Champions from the Southern Region and the Region III Premier League's top teams will face off for the right to participate at the National Championships. Referees are nominated by their states soccer association. Blake is one of a select few officials that have been chosen to represent Georgia Soccer at the event. Blake also officiated at this event in 2007 and was named to the Top 20 Assistant Referees List at the tournament.

HOTSPUR 95 GIRLS HEART OF GEORGIA FINALIST

The Hotspur 95 Girls traveled to Macon on May 17-18 to participate in the Heart of Georgia Classic.  They opened play Saturday morning with a 2-0 victory of YMCA Arsenal Rome.  Hotspur had previously been beaten soundly by this same team twice during the fall.  They followed up this victory with another Saturday afternoon against Tallahassee United U-12 (3-1).  Saturdays results earned the girls a spot in the championship match w/ a game still to play.  Sunday morning's match was a preview of the championship.  Hotspur took on Macon United Navy who had also earned their spot in the final losing 1-0.  The girls held their own with a tough opponent who will be playing in Athena A in the Fall eventually falling 2-1 in the final.

HOTSPUR TEAMS DO WELL AT THOMASVILLE 3V3 FESTIVAL

The Hotspur Academy teams traveled to Thomasville on May 3 to participate in a Southern Soccer Academy Alliance 3v3 festival.  Several teams had excellent showings.  The Hotspur 97 Boys split into 3 teams with each of the teams making the final of their respective divisions.  Team #1 finished with a 2-1-1 record earning a spot in the championship match & losing in overtime. Team #2 finished 2-1-0 and Team #3 finished 2-0-1.  These result pitted the 2 teams against each other in their division's championship.  After battling to a 1-1 draw co-champions were declared.  The 98 Girls split into 2 teams with each finishing 4-0-1 and earning the championship in their division.  The 98 Boys split into 2 teams with one team advancing to the championship match.

Five Hotspur teams traveled to Thomasville on April 19-20 to participate in the Rose City Invitational.  The Hotspur 95 Girls and Hotspur 97 Boys brought home 1st place honors.

The 95 Girls started a bit slow Saturday morning giving up an early goal to FC Santa Rosa.  The defense held solid as Hotspur outscored their opponents 12-0 the rest of the tournament.  The girls drew 1-1 with FC Santa Rosa.  They then took on Top of Florida U-14 defeating them 3-0.  The girls entered Sunday morning play in a virtual three way tie with only the top two teams making the championship match.  The girls answered the call scoring 5 first half goals to defeat Thomas Area SA U-14 6-0 earning them a rematch with FC Santa Rosa in the final.  Hotspur netted a goal in each half in route to a 2-0 victory.

 The 97 Boys opened play with a hard fought 1-0 victory against Thomas Area SA.  They followed this up Saturday afternoon with a very impressive 5-0 victory against River City virtually assuring them a spot in the championship match with a game still to play.  There was no let down Sunday morning as the boys defeated Alabama Alliance 4-2.  The championship match was a rematch with Saturday afternoon's foe River City.  The final proved to be a bit closer than the previous match.  The teams exchanged goals in the first half before Hotspur went ahead for good with a goal in the second earning a 2-1 victory.

Congratulations to the Hotspur 95 Girls.  They are the Spring 2008 Southern Soccer League U13/14 Girls champion.  The girls particpated in 3 playdates in Dothan, Alabama; Enterprise, Alabama & Pace, Florida and finished with an unblemished 6-0-0 record scoring 27 goals and only giving up 2. 



HOTSPUR 97 BOYS COLUMBUS SPRING KICKOFF RUNNER UP

The 97 Boys traveled to Columbus on February 24-25 to participate in the Columbus Spring Kickoff.  In their opening match the boys defeated the Shooters 2-0.  They followed up Saturday afternoon with a 1-1 draw with the River City Rangers.  On Sunday morning the boys defeated the Auburn Thunder 3-0.  In their final match of the tournament Hotspur took on the only other undefeated team in the tournament, Macon United.  Both teams fought hard to a 2-2 draw.  Macon edged the boys out on points to earn the championship.



HOTSPUR 94 GIRLS FLINT RIVER FALL FINALE CHAMPION

The Hotspur 94 Girls sucessfully defended their 2006 Flint River Fall Finale Championship on November 18-19.  They began tournament play early Saturday morning with a 2-1 victory over the Golden Isles Lady United.  Saturday afternoons match was a rematch with last years runner up, the Thomas Area Raiders.  The rematch was not as close as last years final match.  Hotspur put together an impressive 8-0 victory.  Sunday morning's game pitted the girls against a scrappy Leg A-Z Lunachicks teams from Gainesville, Florida.  Both teams battled hard to a 1-1 draw.  The girls clinched the championship on Sunday afternoon defeating the Top of Florida Dragons from Tallahassee, Florida 1-0.

Congratulations to the Hotspur 91 Girls.  They finished as runner up in Fall 2007 GYSA Athena B.  The girls finished the season undefeated at 10-0-2.  They defeated the group champion GSA Phoenix Black 3-2 and scored 26 goals on the season and only gave up 5.  This earns them advancement back to Athena A in the fall.
