Welcome to the A. Green Summer Baseball Program Web Site!! This site is being developed to allow baseball fans everywhere to track one of Southeastern Michigan's most successful summer baseball programs. Check back often as we continue to add more to the site each day. Please sign our guestbook at the bottom of this page and tell us what you think.
The A. Green Summer Baseball Program was started in 1996. The goal of the program was, and still is, to provide an organization that teaches good sportsmanship and works to improve the fundamentals of players seeking to compete at a higher level. The A. Green Summer Baseball Program recruits players primarily from throughout Southeastern Michigan, the Midwest and Ontario. However, we may also go anywhere else throughout the country in an effort to find talented players, who also possess the additional qualities off the field that we look for in A. Green Baseball players. Currently positions are extended by invitation only, most often generated by the recommendation of a high school coach, collegiate coach or professional scout. In addition to this, prospective players must maintain not only proper conduct on and off the field, but also a grade point average that is acceptable for collegiate enrollment.
Currently, the A. Green Summer Baseball Program is one of the largest and most respected in the country and continues to grow each year, playing its home games at Oestrike Stadium on the campus of Eastern Michigan University, at Fisher Stadium on the campus of the University of Michigan and also at Burbridge Stadium on the campus of Spring Arbor University. In addition to the premier 18 year old team, the program, in conjunction with the Michigan Sports Academy, will have at least one team playing at the 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, and 14 year old levels in 2008, while also having at least 2 teams at each the 15-16 and 17-18 year old levels. In 2008, each team, with the exception of the premier 17-18 year old team, will play under the Michigan Sports Academy banner. The original team will continue playing under the traditional A. Green Summer Baseball Program name. You can check the website for more information on these teams, as it becomes available.
At the conclusion of the 2007 season, 86% of the past players received varying levels of scholarship money to attend college. Overall, slightly more than 95% of the players participating in the program, and who have completed their high school requirements, have gone onto continue their education. Our current alumni list numbers 199 players from 82 different high schools, and who have gone onto play at 61 different universities or colleges while 3 went immediately into the professional ranks.
In addition, the program remains very competitive on the field with an overall record of 406 wins, 113 losses and 6 ties for a winning percentage of 78%. This goes along with the 14 League Titles, 13 Tournament Championships, 2 World Series appearances and 17 players drafted into Professional Baseball, including 1 young man who played in Europe. This is truly a success story on and off of the field of play! While many programs over the years have attempted to duplicate the A. Green way, none have been able to match the success and long standing tradition.
The A. Green Summer Baseball Program, at all levels, are registered members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and maintain current affiliations in several programs, including the AABC, USSSA, NABF, AAU, CABA, TPX Top 96, Perfect Game USA, World Wood Bat Association (WWBA), Gameday Prospects, Team One, Area Code Games, Aflac, Ripken Baseball and Triple Crown Baseball.
In addition, the A. Green Summer Baseball Program has begun extended talks with several national companies in an effort to reach agreements on shoe and uniform wear, glove and bat use along with many more items for our players and staff. Look for further information on these issues throughout the coming fall and winter seasons.

A. GREEN PLAYERS DRAFTED - ONE ALREADY SIGNED!
During the recent 2008 Major League Player Entry Draft, 4 former and 1 current A. Green Summer Baseball Program players were drafted.
Current A. Green player, Damarii Saunderson from Northville High School was drafted as an Outfielder by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 15th round. Earlier today, an agreement was reached between Damarii and the Phillies thus enabling Damarii's professional career to begin immediately! Best wishes to Damarii on what we believe will be a promising career.
In addition, former A. Green player, Toby Matchulat was selected in the 10th round by the Chicago Cubs. The hard-throwing right-hander spent this past season at Wabash Community College.
Also, current University of Michigan star, and former A. Green player, Adam Abraham was taken in the 13th round by the Cleveland Indians. Abraham had a great season in Ann Arbor watching over the hot corner for the Wolverines after being named one of the team captains for 2008.
Former A. Green player, and current Detroit Southeastern High School star, DJ Henderson was chosen by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 30th round. Henderson recently led his high school team into the quarter-finals.
Finally, former A. Green player and current Coastal Carolina University right-handed pitcher, Jeff Richard was grabbed up by the Atlanta Braves in the 38th round. Jeff recently completed his 1st season with CCU after transferring from Central Michigan University last summer.
Congratulations to each young man on their selection and our very best wishes as each moves through the next step in their respective careers!

A. Green Continues Moving Forward With DH Sweep
The A. Green Summer Baseball Program continued their winning ways on Tuesday evening with a doubleheader sweep at Oestrike Stadium (Eastern Michigan University) against a solid Saline Yellow Jackets team.
A. Green fell behind 2-0 early in the opener, however they were able to storm back with a strong offensive performance to take a 12-4 victory. As with all mid-week games, A. Green split their pitching up with 4 different hurlers taking the mound in game one. Ben Nielsen (Detroit Country Day) got the offense in gear in the bottom of the 3rd with a long triple to right center that scored the initial run for A. Green. From that point on in the game, the rest of the A. Green bats came to life.
In the nitecap, A. Green once again received a strong effort from the combination of hurlers to lead the team to a 2-0 win. Tyler Scott (Novi), Jordan Gorosh (West Bloomfield), Kris Morris (Orchard Lake) and Chris Marsh (Dexter) combined to deliver a great effort on the hill.
More information on the games will be forthcoming. With the wins, A. Green now moves to 10-2 on the young summer season. On Wednesday, June 18, A. Green returns to action with another doubleheader at EMU beginning at 5:00 PM. The opponent for A. Green will be a strong Michgan Sports Academy team that is led by Head Coach Chris Harrison (former Head Coach & Assistant Coach at the University of Michigan).
At the end of the week, A. Green will move into tournament play in the Great Lakes Challenge. On Friday, A. Green begins with an 11:30 AM game at the U of M taking on the Michigan Muddogs team. Later on Friday, A. Green moves to Madonna University for a 5:30 PM game against the Orion Chargers. On Saturday morning at 11:30 AM, A. Green slides over to the campus of Wayne State University to play the Michigan Chargers. Finally, A. Green completes the pool play portion of the schedule with a game at 5:30 PM, once again at the U of M, against the Steel City Wildcats out of the Pittsburgh area.
See you at the park!

A. GREEN WINS SEASON OPENING TOURNAMENT!
The A. Green Summer Baseball Program won their opening tournament of the season by winning the 3rd game of three on Sunday afternoon in Indianapolis, Indiana.
A. Green was in central Indiana participating for the first time in the Pastime Midwest Baseball Championship and the trip turned out to be a rewarding event.
Playing in their 3rd game of the day, A. Green was able to pull out a 3-2 victory over the Indiana Bulls 18u team behind the pitching of Sam Ott (Plymouth Salem HS). Ott was able to keep the opposition off stride throughout the game as he mixed his pitches.
The deciding blow in the contest was a double by Billy Cribbs (Rochester HS) to the deepest part of the ballpark that was long enough to score Jeff Chattaway (Lake Orion HS) from firstbase with the winning run.
Check back to this site for updated information from the tournament and upcoming A. Green events.

A. Green Moves Forward In Tournament
The A. Green Summer Baseball Program, despite playing with a shortened roster this weekend, has advanced past the pool play portion of the Pastime Midwest Championship tournament.
On Saturday, Joe Posler (Plymouth Salem HS) was outstanding on the mound although the final result was a 2-1 loss to Top Tier out of the Chicago area. Posler gave up 2 runs in the first inning and then shut down Top Tier for the remainder of the game, however A. Green could never quite get the offense in motion to surpass Top Tier on the day.
In an earlier matchup on Saturday, A. Green fell to the Evansville Triplets in a slugfest 9-7. More information on both Saturday games is forthcoming. Despite the losses on Saturday, A. Green was able to secure a #6 seed into the championship backet for Sunday.
A. Green found themselves in the 9:00 AM game this morning playing against the #3 seed, the elite travel LIDS Indiana Bulls team. Early in the game, A. Green jumped out to a 4-1 lead and then held on for an 8-6 victory that propelled A. Green into a 1:45 PM matchup with the Indiana Prospects.
Seth Willoughby (Bishop Watterson HS - Columbus, OH) went the distance on the mound for A. Green and threw the shutout by mixing his off-speed pitches with his upper 80's fastball all afternoon. The offensive explosion by the entire offense led A. Green to a convincing 10-0 victory that catapults the team into the Championship Game later this afternoon at 6:15 PM against an opponent that has yet to be determined. Results of that game will be placed on this site later this evening upon its conclusion. The victory moves A. Green to 7-2 on the young season.

A. Green Stopped By The Midwest Rain
The rains that have been drenching the entire midwest paid another visit to the Indianapolis area on Friday. As a result, the game between the A. Green Summer Baseball Program and the Indiana Bulls was canceled after the teams had played 1 1/2 innings at Bishop Chatard High School.
With the score tied at 1-1 and A. Green's Jimmy Martinez at the plate with a runner on and no outs, the rain arrived and forced the teams off the field. After a short delay, with the rain still coming down, the decision was made to cancel the game and all other games in the tournament for the day. Play will resume on Saturday.
A. Green will return to the field at Butler University today to take on a couple of top quality teams. In game one, at 11:15 AM, A. Green will square off against the Evansville Triplets. In the afternoon contest, at 1:30 PM, Top Tier of Chicago will step in to face off against A. Green.

A. Green Opens Tournament Play
The A. Green Summer Baseball Program opened play in their first tournament of the 2008 season by battling the Cincinnati Thunder in Indianapolis, Indiana as a part of the Pastime Midwest Baseball Championship. The tournament is a 24 team bracketed pool play event. In addition to A. Green, the other teams within the same pool are the Indiana Bulls, Top Tier, Evansville Triplets, Concealed Security and the Cincinnati Thunder.
A. Green fell behind early 1-0, however from that point on the game quickly became a lopsided affair that was stopped after 5 innings with A. Green comfortably ahead 9-1. During the contest, Tyler Scott (Novi HS) hit 2 Home Runs, James Martinez (DeLaSalle Collegiate) chipped in a solo shot, Jeff Chattaway (Lake Orion HS) slugged a tape measure dinger and Chris Marsh (Dexter HS) added another solo bomb to the cause.
On the mound, Scott also led the way going the full 5 innings in taking the victory, which included 8 strikeouts. Martinez also added a double and Marsh collected a single during his day. Drew Pyles (West Bloomfield) also collected a single during the contest.
A. Green now moves into a 9:00 AM contest on Friday with the traditional powerhouse Indiana Bulls program. With the victory, A. Green moves to 5-0 on the young season. Additional information from this weeks previously played games, as well as the remaining tournament games, will be added to this site in the coming days as the information is compiled and reviewed prior to publication.
