NCSL RESULTS - 4 WINS, 1 LOSS (as of 5/11/08)
The Gainesville, VSA Heat boys U10 'white' travel team (formally VISTA Blackwatch) will begin a new chapter this fall as we've moved from club VISTA to VSA. We are an elite U10 boys team that competes in the NCSL league. The goal of the team is to compete at the highest level in the NCSL league and to win a Virginia state championship. The long term goal of the team is to prepare all the boys for College Division I level competition.
The team practices year round with a break during the Christmas and New Year season. Practices are held three time a week outdoor or indoor depending on the season. Outdoor practices are held in Gainesville on Tuesday. Friday and Saturdays. This spring the VSA Heat 'white' team will be participating in the NCSL league on Sundays. The team is also working with other top teams in the region to establish friendly games on Saturday afternoons (games will be held the same weekends the NCSL games are held). The friendly games are meant to generate more competition for the boys during the U10 ages group as this NCSL division is not yet ranked. During the summer the expectation is to play small sided tournaments and Futsal. During the winter months the team will play Futsal/Indoor, practice at local schools, and outdoor on hardtops when the weather permits.
Team Philosophy
The VSA Heat 'white' team philosophy is to foster into the boys a love for soccer while developing their ball control skills early on in their development. At a young age special emphasis is placed on ball control skills and teaching proper technique. In addition special attention is placed on running, agility, coordination and balance. Strengthening is not overlooked but not emphasized until the boys grow older and hit their growth spurts.
The VSA Heat 'white' team is a family oriented team dedicated to good sportsmanship and family values.
The Coaching:
The team is coached by Edwin Elmore, Mike Blevins, and Mark Dobbins. Coach Elmore and Dobbins played at the Division I college level. The team manager is Kathleen White. The coaches have a combined experience of 60 years of playing and coaching soccer.

NVFC Winter Classic Champs!
This weekend the boys played their first tournament as VSA Heat 'White' and they went 4-0! The NVFC Winter Classic is a small sided Futsal tournament and the boys played in the U10/11 bracket. This was a very tough bracket made up of some very good teams in the area: FASA Fire, VSA Heat 'Blue', and NVSC Jr. Royals. The first game was against the FASA Fire. Our boys played aggressively and made some great overlapping passes to quickly bring the score to 3-0. The boys played tight defense in the back against a very fast and skilled FASA team. In the end, our boy’s tight defense and strong goal keeping only allowed FASA to score once, beating FASA 6-1. The next game was against our associate team VSA Heat 'Blue'. The Heat 'Blue' really brought it to us testing both our offensive and defensive skills. The Heat 'Blue' has a very quick attack and they mercilessly tested our defense. In the end, our work in the back proved to be too solid, allowing only a few attempted shots. Our boys played really well bringing the ball out of the back and then making quick pass-through balls to the opposite side; thus creating opportunities to score. Final score: 2-0 VSA Heat 'White'. Next the boys played the NVSC Jr. Royals. Last time we played the Royals we went into double overtime and on to PKs. The Jr. Royals are a great team and we love playing them, but this game was ours! Again, our aggressive play and strong defense was unmatched. The Jr. Royals had a few really good opportunities but our defense was able to step up and Mathew, our goalie, was able to stop some very hard shots. Offensively we kept at the Royals making good passes and creating scoring opportunities for a final score of 4-1. This set the scene for the finals; VSA Heat 'White' vs. FASA Fire! FASA is a great organization with great boys and a lot of good talent. We always enjoy playing them so to play them again in the finals was awesome! This game was a tough fight. Our boys were tired but still played well. The game was scoreless for the first 13 minutes of the 25 minute game until, on an offensive push, we scored making it 1-0! FASA retaliated with an aggressive attack but our defense stayed strong. Final score 1-0 VSA Heat 'White'! In all, the boys played AWESOME....tough defense, rock solid goal keeping, aggressive offense, and smart passing. That combination allowed us to go 4-0; only allowing 2 goals scored against us and 13 goals scored for the day!!! Great Job VSA Heat 'White'!

Blackwatch places 2nd in the prestigious Adidas Potomac Memorial Day Tournament
The team placed second in the Adidas Potomac Memorial Day Tournament. Over the three days of competition the team had a chance to play some very challenging teams. On Saturday our first game was up against the PWSI Courage Red team, the score was BW 3 - PWSI 0. The second Saturday game was against a very tough and skillful MSC team. The final score was BW 1 - MSC 0. On Sunday, the third and final game in our bracket was against a tough Potomac team with who we tied 1-1 with Potomac scoring in last play of the game. The two wins and one tie placed Blackwatch as the top team in the bracket. The semifinal match was against the Olney team, after the Blackwatch jumped ahead 3-1 the Olney team came back to tie 3-3 with a final score of BW 4 - Olney 3. The final stage was set for a final between Blackwatch and the might Mid County Royals team. The game was all that was expected of a final, at times Blackwatch attacked and at time Mid County attacked. The game was well balanced with great playing on both sides. At the end of regulation the score was tied 1-1. After double overtime the score remained 1 -1. Mid County won in penalties 3-2. Overall, the team could not have performed better. We were also very lucky to had the possibility to be amongst such great competition this weekend. Great job Blackwatch boys !
