The End to A Very Successful Season
The Vines Vikings ended their season by defeating one of their toughest openents, the Williams Warriors. The game went into extra innings. Tripp Cecil led off with a double in the bottom of 8th inning. Immediately following, Conner Michelsen came to the plate to hit a shot to the fence over the centerfielders head to score the winning run.
Their last two games was a doubleheader against the Jasper Jaguars in which they split games. The first game the team was not up to par and errors seemed to be their nemisis with the Jaguars scoring an impressive 13 runs to handly beat the Vikings.
However, the second game was a different story. Outstanding hitting by Brian Thomas, Quincy Jones and Forrest Hayes helped lead to a victory and a 12 run game to end an impressive season.
The team is very solid with an excellent pitching staff (Joey Kaufman, Ryan McCarthy, Eric Gilstrap, Bo Hawthorne, Tyler Adams and Tripp Cecil). The pitching was definitely a key factor in keeping runs to a minimum (86 runs scored against in 21 games), along with an impressive defense. And yes, the boys can hit -- racking up a total of 154 runs throughout the season!
The team has a lot of talent, but most of all they have a lot of heart. They won games because they were supportive of each other. Games are not won by invididuals alone, but by teamwork and this was always evident on and off the field.
The Vikings ended the season with a final record of 18-3. Of the three losses, they were split games.
The parents want to give a special thanks to Coach Faith, Rudd, Loosli, and Jacobs. Without you guys and your enthusiasm for the game the team would not have acheived such a level of success.
Also, Thank you Suzie Philips for all the awesome pictures, the parents really appreciate it.
Great Job Vikings on a terrific season!
