Welcome to Titans Veterans Soccer !
Titans Soccer Team has been around for quite some time in the Richmond, VA area. Titans started in the CASA over 33 league in the fall of 2000 under the direction of Tom Stallings. Titans dominated that league from 2000 until 2003. In the fall of 2005, Titans moved to the CVSA over 30 division and formed the Titans Masters under the leadership of Pablo Gonzalez and Jim Monks. Titans Matsers won the spring 06 season. In the spring of 07 some of us started the Titans Veterans Team, finshing second in the CVSA over 40 league. In the fall of 2007 the Titans Masters and Veterans merged into one team to compete full time in the over 40 CVSA league. Vern Inge is the current team captain. Titans Veterans have won the last two seasons.
Original Titans still playing: Bill Dandridge, Steve Keller, Ed Blunberg, Vern Inge, Bill Dinkin, Pablo Gonzalez and Mauricio Pava.
Ocrober 5 - Titans with another easy victory
Tiatns 8 - Sounders 1: Another easy win for Titans Veterans despite the horrible condition of the field. Andre scored early. Then, Emilio, Jim, Juan and Bill scored one each to finish the half up by 5. In the second half, Sounders scored a good goal after a long ball went over our which found their best player open in the box. Andre (2) and Pablo scored the rest for the Titans. Titans had many chances that did not go in. Our record is 4-0-0. Next week a huge game against the Jurassic Rats (the other undefeated team and only team to beat us last season).
September 28- Titans had a Blast
Titans 5 - Blast HC 0: Titans had another easy win. The pitch was wet but overall in good shape. Lucho, assisted by Bill, scored the first goal 30 seconds into the game. Before the half, Andre assisted by Jim scored the second. In the second half Andre and two beatiful finishes by Jim cemented the Titans victory. Titans did not play as well as the week before, but the win was never in doubt. With the victory, The Titans with a 3-0-0 record remain at the top of the standings tied with the Jurassic Rats.
September 21- Titans win big against a strong team with title aspirations.
Titans 7 - Edo's 1: On a beautiful sunny morning and on a very nice pitch, the Titans had one of the best performances ever in the CVSA over 40 league. The posession, passing and scoring were superb. In addition, the defense allowed Bill to have a quiet day. Pablo scored the first two goals assisted by Andre both times. Edo's got one back on a dubious penalty called against Juan. Mauricio scored the next two goals before the half. In the second half Jim (2) and Andre found the back of the net. Another strong performance for the defending champs.
September 14 - Titans started the CVSA Fall 08 season with an easy victory
Titans 11 - RISE 0: In the first game of the fall season, the Titans demolished the RISE team. Pablo opened the score assisted by Jim at the begining of the game. After scoring several more goals in a short period of time, the game was basically over. At half time, the score was 8-0 in our favor. The second half was played at a slower pace and finally Dean scored our last goal to put the final touch to a very good debut of the defending champions. We are happy to have are new addition,Andre, with us; and also glad to have Jay back after sustainig a serious inury last season.
June 1 - Titans Get a Scare but Come Back Hard
In a game that Titans badly needed to win in order to win the league again the Titans had quite a few chances from early on, but failed to capitalize. The Nomads got a rare corner kick which curled just inside near post and neither the defense or goalie could clear it before it crossed the line. This was definitely not the start we needed and we were down 1-0 at half.
In 2nd half we were pushing up and got caught in the back with a weak clearance that the Nomad forward jumped on a put in for 2-0 lead. It wasn't looking good then, but there was still plenty of time. The Titans kept pushing up and created manu chances and Lucho's header just cleared the goal line before theor goalies got to it for our first goal. Then, Jim's cross landed inside Nomad's goals perfectly placed ! With ~ 15 min to go Bruce brought the ball up from back and rocketed a shot on goal that went off the crossbar (I think) and bounced right in front of the goal where Jose easily finished it for the 3-2 lead. Titans clamped up on defense, while Nomads tried to push up, but couldn't really create any chances. Lucho scored one more for some breathing room with about 5 minutes to go and the Titans completed an impressive comeback for the 2nd League Championship in a row !!!
Too bad Pablo, Mauricio, Kelly, Steve C. & Jay couldn't be there for that final win as it felt good, especially with the dramatic comeback in 2nd half.
This was another impressive season where Titans only surrendered 4 goals in 9 league games while scoring 28 !
May 31 - Titans Get Needed Win in Heat
On a hot humid day the Titans needed the win against Lions Masters to have a chance to win the league. This was a tight game throughout with both teams not having a lot of chances, but Titans enjoying a bit more possession. The heat definitely slowed everyone down a bit as everyone seemed sluggish.
The game was scoreless at half and then in 2nd half Jose got a goal on assist from Emilio. The Titans clamped down and hung on for the badly needed victory. One more win and we win the league !
May 18th - Titans RISE to Highest Goal Output
The Titans took control against RISE right from start and scored early and often. It was 4-0 at the half. Titans cruised in 2nd half and just passed the ball around a bit with score ending up 8-0 by the end.
Jose scored 3, Juan 3, Bill and Emilio added one each. Now it's getting down to crunch time wiht Titans needing a win against Lion's Masters to win the league again.
May 11th - Titans Take It Easy On Lobos on Mother's Day
Amazingly this day was the biggest turnout of the season for the Titans, with 8 or 9 subs. The Lobos were overmatched from the start and Mauricio found the net fairly early on wiht a hard low shot in the corner. Then, Jose put in a nice glancing header to go up 2-0 and the outcome was never in doubt.
In 2nd half a few of the guys left to be with their mothers or wives, but it didn't matter. The Titans kept posession of the ball and created a lot more chances, but Lobos packed it in and defended well. No more goals were scored and once again the Titans goal was rarely threatened.
May 4th - Titans Get Back on Track
The RCFC Veterans Team rarely threatened this day and I don't think Bill (our goalie) even had to make any saves. The only chance they ever had was on a Titans defense created confusion on one play in 2nd half, other than that they had nothing...
On offensive side we created MANY chances and should've had many more than we did. It was 1-0 at half and 3-0 at the end and could've been much worse for RCFC who never mounted much of anything. Even a missed PK for Titans didn't matter this day.
April 27th - Titans Catch Some Bad Breaks
Titans played a solid Jurrasic Rats Team and it was a good match. Titans had more of the possession and chances in first half and couldn't buy a goal. Rats goalie was very good and had some help from the crossbar a couple of times and from the ref on a very bad call that disallowed a clear goal.
In 2nd half the play was fairly even, but then wiht 10 min to go the Rats got a PK call, which they converted. That score (1-0) stood at end with Titans absorbing the first loss of the season. The score was against the run of play, but the Rats played well and are a solid team.
March 30 Game Update - Titans Win Soundly
The Titans at first had shades of last game on this poor and small field in cold and misty weather against the Sounders where we enojoyed most of the possession and goal scoring chances but to no avail. Then towards the end of first half Bill had a nice run deep and scored. In 2nd half Bill scored another one, on a rocket shot from tough angle that went in off the post. The Sounders somehow pulled one back on one of their two shots on goal for the game. After that Titans continued to dominate and scored 3 more to finish this one 5-1. The other goals were scored by Jim, Lucho & Juan. It was good to get on winning track again, but we did let the first goal of the season in...
March 16 Game Update - Titans Can't Finish
First, the field was in bad shape and was a very narrow one to start with not allowing Titans to take advantage of our better speed & skill. With that and many key guys out this game we struggled to put the ball in. We had many chances, especially in 2nd half and had the lion share of posession, but either finished poorly or had some bad luck so the game ended up in a 0-0 tie. The Blast seemed very happy with that result as they rarely threatened and spent most the game in their own half.
March 2 Game Update - Titans Start the 2008 Spring Season on a Good Note
Titans got off to a very strong start to the season beating last season's second place squad 5-0. Edo's Squid is a very talented squad who played hard, and were the only team to beat the Titans last season. The Titans were able to sneak in a couple of goals in the first half, and then scored more in the second half while pressing to score. Titans knocked the ball around pretty well for the first match of the season. Some questionable officiating took place, which can happen frequently in this league, but it probably didn't affect the overall outcome much.
Pablo scored the first goal on a PK, 2nd one was an own goal, Jim scored the third goal, Jose scored the fourth & Vince notched the fifth. New players for us this season, Mike, Roberto and Juan played very well.
Dec. 2 Game Update - Titans WIN the Veteran's Division !!!
Having just clinched 1st place in Veteran's division before the play even started the Titans had nothing to play for, but still started strong. The goals kept piling up at will and it was 4-0 at the half. In the 2nd half RISE started to mount some chances as the Titans were losing interest and actually scored one. Even the rain attempted to slow down the Titans, but to no avail as the final score was 8-1.
Jose scored 3, Mauricio and Jim had 2 each and Bill had 1 to finish a solid first season in the Veterans division !!!
Nov. 18 Game Update
This was a game between two solid teams and had a big impact on how the season would finish. The first half was fairly even, but the Lions took the lead on a goal where the ball bounced through the defense and the Lions player ended up one on one and made his shot. Titans had some chances, but couldn't find the goal.
The Titans didn't panic in 2nd half and had a better share of possession and the scoring chances. Pablo's corner kick was perfectly met by Lucho's head for a beautiful equalizer early in 2nd half. The Titans kept controlling the play and were unlucky to not get a clear PK call, but then about 10 min. from end did get one PK called. Pablo calmly put it away and the Titans held on fairly easily for the win. Bill (goalie) claimed he didn't have to make any saves on any shots in the 2nd half so kudos go to the defense.
With one game left to go we are in charge of our destiny. If we beat RISE in 2 weeks we win the league.
Nov. 11 Game Update:
In a game of 2 teams at the top of the standings the Titans got an early goal on a PK and were up 3-0 at the half. The Blast were trying hard in 2nd half and made it 3-1 about 15 minutes in, but their continued attacks didn't create any true chances and as they were getting tired the Titans scored 3 more to end this one at 6-1.
Goals were scored by Pablo (3), Bill (2) and Jose. Need a good result next week and we'll be in good shape to win it all !!!
Oct. 21 Game Update:
All that can be said for this game is that the Kicks got their butts kicked... It was 4-0 at the half and 9-0 when it was over. Even with some key players missing this was an easy win. Some guys (Jaime, Steve K., Kelly) got injured this game and hope it's nothing serious.
We would've had more mercy on the Kick's if it wasn't for Pablo and Jose getting into a scoring contest. They both ended up with 4 each and Pablo was nice enough to give Jose the assist on Jose's 4th when Pablo already had his 4. Mauricio was the other scorer.
Next up are the Lion's Masters, which should be a good game. I know that Steve C. and Mauricio will not make this game so hope the injured guys have recovered.
Oct. 18 Game Update:
This was the first and only Thu. night game of the season and surprisingly we had great attendance. Only Mauricio and Lucho were not there. Our opponents did start with 9 and got to 11 maybe 1/2 through first half, but the outcome was still never in doubt. We were up 5-0 at the half and it could've easily been 10 if it weren't for numerous close misses, the post and cross bar that saved at least 4-5 goals just in first half. We coasted to a 6-0 easy win where everyone got to play and key players were able to rest up before the coming Sunday morning game. We will have some key midfielders missing (Jim, Bill, Lucho and likely Mauricio) so we'll need to make some adjustments.
Goals today were scored by Bill (2), Jose, Jay, Jim & Vince ! The best goal in my opinion was a tie between Jay's header and Vince volley in 2nd half.
Oct. 14 Game Update:
This week's game was much tougher as the competition was definitely stronger. The Titans put one in early and another one midway in 1st half to take a 2-0 lead to break. The Rats were trying to muster up some offense in 2nd half, but were dealt a set back to go down 0-3. At this point Titans rotated in fresh players, played some keepaway and did what was needed to finish up relatively comfortable 4-2 at end. The Rats tried to keep pushing up without much luck and were pretty worn out at the end.
Jaime scored 2 and Jose scored 2 this week !!!
