Boys bow out of playoffs with 2-1 loss
The season has come to end for the boys after a disapointing 2-1 loss to Woodlawn of Baton Rouge. We didn't play our best game and you have to do that in the playoffs. Woodlawn started the scoring in the 6th minute with a drive right up the middle. Their second goal came at about 20 minutes on a close range rebound shot. With the score 2-0 at the half, the Gators and a tough job in front of them. At the 60 minute mark, Chris Rakel fought for the ball in front of the goal and knock one in. That goal seem to spark the team and we played a lot better the last 20 minutes. Woodlawn began to pack the defense and cleared the ball as long as they could, almost every time. We had some opportunites in those last 20 minutes but just could not capitalize.
The Gators had a good season overall, considering the youth on the team. With only two Seniors on the team, the lack of experience was going to be tested and it was. Thanks to Cody and Paxton for all of your efforts and hard work over the last several years. You can be proud of the job you did for your team. The Gator family wishes you the best of luck in the future.

Boys congratulate Girls
On behalf of the Boys we congratulate the Girls on a great season. The last few years were not what the girls anticipated but a new coach and a new attitude made a huge difference. This years team played with a lot of heart and team spirit. You Seniors have started a new path for the Girls team. Next year will be even better. We wish you the best of luck in the upcoming years, we know you will make Shreve proud again next season as you have done this season.

Shreve Girls fall to St. Josephs 3-2
I want to begin and then end with the girls. I thought our girls played one of their best matches of the year. Coach was only able to sub 2 or 3 girls into the match and 7 or 8 of them played the entire 80 minutes. Our starting goalie and 1 of our midfielders were on a school trip to Washington DC and missed the match. Cudo's to Emily Watson who traded her #15 for a keeper jersey and played fantastic in goal for our match against Magnet and then St. Josephs. We missed her in the midfield but she did a great job in the nets and made several good stops. Also want to mention Stephanie Hall. Stephanie is our center mid and has missed most of her senior year to injuries to both knees. If it hadn't been a playoff match and possibly her last one she wouldn't have been out there last night. Bad luck stuck again and she got nailed pretty good in the knee again and then just before the end of the half got a hard ball to the jaw and left the match. Dr. Sikes thought the jaw might be broken but an xray in his office today showed no fractures. Needless to say, it wasn't the way she wanted her soccer career to end. Want to thank a St. Josephs dad (physician) who came to check on her.
We went into the match knowing one of our best midfielders would in the goal and another severely limited in her playing time and abilities. We knew we needed some good luck and for everyone to give it all they had. We got the good luck in the first half with St. Josephs hitting metal a couple of times and just missing on a few others. The 75-25 split on ball possession was pretty accurate. St. Josephs was very well coached, very aggressive, quick, and quite skilled. Their outside mids were quicker that ours which made it tough for our defenders and keeper. Our game all year has been try to and get the ball to our 2 forwards, (usually from long passes), and hope they could outrun the defense. St. Josephs defense was just as quick and did a real good job shutting Abbie and Caydence down until the last 10 minutes.
First score was on a tough call in the box. Our parents didn't think it should have been called. (No surprise there) My daughter who is the sweeper and had the call against her. She was distraught about it after the match but said they got their feet tangled and the St. Joes striker went down. Tough call but the right call. First thing she said when I talked to her after the match was " Daddy we lost because of my pk call." Not true Katie, but such is the life of a sweeper. Second goal was on a great shot over the keeper and just under the crossbar. Last goal for St. Joes was one from in close.
Down 3-0 our girls could have quit, but they played perhaps their best 10 minutes of soccer the entire year at the end. Everyone gave it all they had and we finally scored when Abbie got a pass from Caydence and scored. A few minutes later Abbie beat her defender and scored again. 2 minutes to go and down 1 goal. We tried hard but nothing happened for us and it was over. Final score was 3-2. Who knows what might have happened if we had an extra 10 minutes to play.
Congrats to a very good St. Joseph's team. I hope they can keep it up and win a few more matches. They were strong and skilled all the way thru the lineup. I want to thank SJAdad for his help and also thank the coach for doing everything he could to get this match in last night. Our coach is a senior at Centenary and needed to be in San Antonio on Friday for a grad school interview. She will be on the road today and really needed the match to be played on Wednesday. She was really complimentary of their coach and how helpful he was.
For our girls I want to thank all of them for giving it everything they had all year. We weren't a deep team and to be successful on the field this year we needed an injury free year to some of our key players. We didn't get that but still had a good season and saved our best for last. Lots of tears flowing after the match by both players and parents, especially the seniors. Several of the seniors are the babies of their familys and like ours their soccer days are done.
Its been a fun ride at Shreve, 6 years, 3 kids and too many great memories to count. 15 years of soccer for our family are now over. Time to take up golf again.
Thanks to our coaches for giving our girls a great year. And most of all, thanks to the girls for giving all of us the thrills and enjoyment of watching our children competing and having a lot of fun. Nothing is better than that!!!
More to come on all the girls later

Girls Will Play St. Josephs Catholic in First Round
The brackets have been released and the Shreve Girls First Round opponent will be St. Josephs Catholic of Baton Rouge. The girls will play Wednesday at 6 PM at the Burbank soccer complex in Baton Rouge.
Directions to the field are as follows: Best bet is to exit Nicholson Drive right off the I-10 bridge. Take the exit around to the right, go to the light and turn left onto Nicholson. Stay on Nicholson through the LSU campus and go about 7 or 8 miles to Bluebonnet. Take a left on Bluebonnet. Go to Burbank. Take a right and the fields are about a quarter mile down on the right. Staying on I-10 to I-12 may be shorter but BR traffic is going to be bad at that time of day.

Shreve Girls Fall to Magnet 5-1
In the regular season finale Shreve started out strong but couldn't keep up with Magnet and lost 5-1. About 2 minutes into the match Caydence got the ball about 40 yards out, beat her defender dribbled about 30 yards, got the shot off, it hit the crossbar, Caydence stayed with it and put it in the goal. Great play by Caydence. Shreve held the lead about 15 minutes then Magnet scored and then they scored again soon after that to go up 2-1. The first half ended with Shreve down 2-1. The second half saw Shreve get some great chances but we couldn't put anything in the net. Magnet scored 3 during the middle and late part of the half. Magnet played about 20 girls and since we are shorthanded with Ellen and Ashleigh on a school trip, we wore out towards the end on that big field. Special kudos to Emily Watson taking over goalkeeper duties for Ellen. Not an easy task to have your first high school match in goal against Magnet and then your next one a playoff match. The girls played hard the entire match and the score looked worse than it really was.
The girls have clinched a playoff wildcard and will either play St. Josephs or Dutchtown later this week. Both schools are located in Baton Rouge so we know where we are headed. The brackets will be released on Tuesday morning. I will update this website tomorrow with directions to where we will be playing. Cori is hoping to play on Wednesday around 6 PM.

Magnet defeats Gators 2-0
This game was very typical of the type of game you have come to expect when these two teams meet. #1 it's usually for the District Championship and # 2 it's hard fought and down to the wire. Tonight, was both. Magnet will finish with one loss and the District Title, Shreve finishes 2nd. The Gators weren't quite up to speed in the first half and Magnet took advantage in the 16th minute with a score off of a free kick and two touches. In the 25th minute Kevin made a great save to prevent a sure goal but unfortunately 1 minute later Magnet made a short thru ball and a 10 yard run to score their 2nd goal. At the half it was 2-0. The second half was played much better by the Gators, we controlled the ball better and gave ourselves several opportunites to score, but we just couldn't convert to any goals. The defense really stepped up and made some great stops, Logan saved a shot of the goal line and toward the end of the game ran down a Magent attacker who was on a long breakaway, to take away a 1 v 1 opportunity against Matt. Cody as usual, was a pain to the Magnet offense all night. Both teams played well and will represent Shreveport in the playoffs. Our first playoff game should be Saturday Feb 2nd. As soon as Coach Smith finds out, he'll let me know and I'll update this site. Congratulations to the Gators for a great season. Now on to the playoffs for hopefully several more games.

Girls Shutout Southwood 8-0
The Girls beat Southwood Wednesday night 8-0. The score was 4-0 at the half. Shreve controlled the ball the entire match. Scoring goals were Emily Watson with 2, Katie Norgard with 2, Grace Hiller, Caydence Leber, Caroline Sikes, and Ellen Lockhart. Assists were credited to Caydence, Claudia Munoz, Katie Smith, Sunny Wolfe, and Grace.
Next up is Magnet in the district finale on Monday at Indy. It also looks like with the win tonight the girls may have clinched a wildcard berth in the playoffs next week. The bracket will be released on Tuesday morning. If we qualify we will travel to either St. Josephs or Dutchtown. Both school are located in Baton Rouge.

Gators defeat Jackets 3-0
Win this game and we play for the District Championship. That's all the Gators were focused on the last couple of days, and after tonights win, we turn our attention to #1 ranked Caddo Magnet. The Randel brothers got it started in the 7th minute. Brennan got the ball about 40 yards out made a few moves and made a sweet pass to Connor, who made a couple of good moves himself to be 1 v 1 with the keeper. Connor wins that one to make it 1-0. We played most of the second half in Byrds end of the field and in the 32nd minute Paxton slammed one home off the rebound of Connor's shot. Score at the half 2-0. By the time the second half started the rain was coming down and mixed with 45 degree weather, it was pretty miserable, but I'm not sure the boys cared. In the 52nd minute Brennan sealed the win after receiving an assist from Sam Fell. Were up 3-0 and the defense was not about to let Byrd score. The shutout was nice. The defense played well tonight, keeping the ball moving back toward midfield an allowing the offense to take it from there. Cody, Kevin and Logan formed a wall back there that has produced 2 shutouts in a row. The midfield with Paxton, Jordan, Will and Sam moved the ball well getting it up to Brennan, Connor, Jeff and Tyler. Matt Green was able to knock several opportunites away to keep Byrd from getting any real opportunities. It wasn't our best game, and as Coach Matt Smith said, "it wasn't pretty but we won and we won as a team." This Thursday night is HUGE. Magnet at Independence at 6:00. Bring all the noise makers you have and bring a friend, we need a strong contingent of Gator fans to help the boys bring back the District Title where it belongs. I encourage all of the JV parents and players to come out early. If history means anything, this will be one heck of a game. GO GATORS, BEAT MAGNET !!!!

Girls Lose to Loyola 3-0.
Not much to say. We had our chances but couldn't finish them. They had more chances and were able to put 3 in the net. Not our best match. Next up is Southwood on Wednesday.

Shreve Girls Beat Airline 2-1 in Penalty Kicks
Shreve and Airline played to a 1-1 tie in 100 minutes of soccer then went to a shootout with the Gators winning the shootout 3-2.
Shreve got the first goal on an Abbie Cowley assist to Caydence Leber. Airline tied the match up early in the second half. Shreve had lots and lots of shots but could not put more than one in the goal.
The shootout went as follows: Airline made, Caydence missed, Airline made, Meredith Rosenzweig made hers, Airline missed, Katie Norgard made hers, Airline missed, Grace Hiller missed, Airline missed, Abbie missed. Tied 2-2 at the end of 5 kickers. It went to sudden death and Airline missed, then Caroline Sikes made hers and the match was over. I was listening in on the phone and I am pretty sure I heard that Ellen made at least one save in the shootout. Great job Gators.
Next week Shreve plays Loyola in a nondistrict match and then Southwood. This win gets Shreve back to 9-9-2 for the year.
Well done Girls!!!!!!

DOMINATION Boys Shutout Airline 7 - 0
Simply put, the Gators dominated the Vikings tonight. From start to stop and end to end, the boys played perhaps their best game of the year, so far. The scoring started in the 14th minute with a Brennan Randel goal off of a long assist from Logan Calhoun. Logan served it up from about midfield and Brennan received it around the 20, made a few nice moves and scored from 10 yards out. In the 33rd minute Brennan scores again this time off of an assist from Paxton Monsour. Paxton delivered it to the right spot, Brennan makes two touches and puts it in. In the 35 minute Brennan knocks in another one, ( do you see a pattern here) off of an assist from Will Monsour. At the half it's 3-0. The second half played out much like the first, with Brennan scoring 3 more goals for a total of 6. He had plenty of help with assist from Chris Rakel, Hayden Price and Paxton again. Will Monsour put in the final goal with an assist from Chris Hammond to finish it up at 7-0. The defense worked together playing 1st and 2nd defender very well. Airline has good speed with their forwards but Logan, Kevin and Cody were able to shut them down. Airline had only 3-4 legitimate attempts at a shot, but Matt Green came up big and snuffed them all out. The midfield and forwards plyed very well together tonight. Will M., Paxton, Sam, Chris R, Connor Randel, Jordan Gray, Jeff Putnam and Tyler Smith moved the ball very well setting up the scoring opportunites all night long. We saw a lot of team work tonight which hasn't been the case lately. Hopefully we have flipped the switch and will continue the rest of the season like tonight. If we do, the sky's the limit.
Three big games in 8 days. Win them all, win District. 1 down 2 to go. Next game is against Byrd, 7:45 Monday night at Caddo. Keep it up Gators. Great stuff tonight !!!!!!
Monday, January 14
Boys Blank Southwood 10 - 0
THe Boys had an easy night against the Southwood Cowboys tonight. This will be the last easy game of the year. With Airline, Byrd and top ranked Caddo Magnet in the next two weeks, the Gators had better bring all they have. They can finish anywhere from 1st to 4th in district. Each game they win out of the next three moves them up 1 spot. Win all three and we are outright District Champs.
Goals - Brennan - 2, Connor - 1, Sam -1, Will M.-1, Hayden -1, Jordon -1, Cody W. - 2, Austin - 1
Assist - Tyler -3, Brennan - 1, Cody M - 1 Chris L.-1, Jeff - 1, Cody W. - 1
Next up Airline at Independence on Thursday.
Monday, January 14
Girls Shutout Southwood 6-0
The Girls shutout Southwood tonight 6-0. Goals were scored by Caydence (2), Abbie (2), Claudia Munoz, and Grace Hiller. Assists were by Caydence, Abbie, Grace, Emily Watson, and Katie Norgard. Easy night for the defense as Southwood may have had 1 shot. Shreve had around 40.
Next up is Airline on Thursday. That match is also at Indy. To have a shot at 3rd place in the district and make the playoffs Shreve needs to win by 3 goals.
Saturday, January 12
Shreve Girls Lose 2 in Mt. Pleasant on Saturday
The Girls team had a rough day in the Mt. Pleasant Tournament on Saturday. The fell to Lovejoy, TX 2-1 in the semifinals , then lost another tough one to Terrill, TX in the 3rd place match on Saturday evening.
Shreve was playing without 2 starters on Saturday (Stephanie Hall-knee, Caroline Sikes-ankle) and it showed. Both matches were very winnable, we just didn't take advantage of our opportunites, made a couple of mistakes, and had some bad luck with bounces and the darn weather in the last match.
The semifinal match was a close one all the way. We had several shots just miss the net early. They got a goal midway thru the first half on a nice shot that went just inside the far post. They got their second goal when one of our players tried to clear the ball out, it hit another Shreve player and took a crazy bounce over Ellen's head and into the net. It was 2-0 at the half. The second half saw us get a goal about 15 minutes in, when Abbie got a nice pass from Grace(?) then put the ball in to make the score 2-1. We played hard to try and even the score but we couldn't get it done.
That put us in the 3rd place match against Terrill, TX. We played that one without Meredith. We also went up against the best player I saw this weekend. Terrill had a great forward who had great footskills and was fast. Coach put Katie Smith on her in the first half and Katie did a great job stopping her. Sunny Wolfe defended her in the second half and she did an equally great job. It took those 2 plus Katie Norgard to try and stop her and they did prevent any goals from her directly. The first half saw both teams get chances, but there was no score. We didn't get any breaks on the officiating as Caydence got pushed down from behind (Karen Cowley has it on tape) in or near the penalty area and we didn't get a whistle on that one. Seconds after the half ended, the lightning detector horn went off and we had an extended halftime until the weather cleared and play resumed.
The second half saw the Gators come out looking sluggish but about 10 minutes in we got a free kick from 30 yards out and Abbie stuck a great one that got past the keeper just inside the left post. Then we had a replay of the first Byrd match. The wind that followed the bad weather came in and we were on the wrong side of it. The wind went from nothing to 20-25 mph in a matter of minutes. We played most of the remaining time on our side of the field. With about 20 minutes to go they got a corner kick and their #2 who was the really good player stuck a perfect corner to one of her teammates who headed the ball in from around 6-8 yards out. 5 minutes later they got another corner and they did exactly the same thing. Same kicker, same spot, same teammate, same result. We are now down 2-1. We fought hard but couldn't score. With a couple of minutes left, they got the PK call we didn't get and converted the penalty kick to make it 3-1. Time to go home beaten and bruised.
We played well, could have won all the matches, but had some bad luck and didn't put the ball into the net enough. It was a good tournament, nice to play some teams we don't normally see, and the girls seemed to have a good time. Bad news was we may have lost 2 of our seniors to season ending injuries. Hopefully they will get back on the field before the end of the year.
Friday, January 11
Girls Tie Marshall 0-0, Advance to Semifinals
The Girls played Marshall to a 0-0 tie on Friday in their last bracket match of the Mt. Pleasant Tournament. The tie was enought to advance to the semifinals on Saturday. This was a match that should have been won at least 4-0. Caydence and Abbie had numerous shots on goal, they just couldn't find the net today. Hopefully, they are just saving those goals until tomorrow when we need them.
We will play Lovejoy, TX tomorrow in the semifinals at 11:30 AM. If we win we play the final at 5 PM. If we lose we wil play the 3rd place match at 3 PM.
Good Luck Gators!!!
Thursday, January 10
Girls Win Both Matches in Mt. Pleasant Tournament
The Shreve girls had a very good opening day in the Mt. Pleasant, TX girls tournament on Thursday. Shreve had a morning match vs Greenville, TX and shut them out 3-0. Heard the girls played well on a very small field that was in less than optimal condition. Caydence scored all 3 goals in the match. Grace Hiller and Abbie Cowley (2) had the assists.
In the evening match Shreve went up against North Lamar, TX. North Lamar came out very aggressive and played a very physical brand of soccer. They went up on Shreve with an early goal and then midway thru the first half they went up 2-0. Shreve came back with a goal off a Caydence assist to Abbie. The half ended with a 2-1 score. Stephanie Hall was injured in the first half with some possible ligament damage to one of her knees. Stephanie was just getting back into top form after the early knee injury suffered during the first Byrd match. This injury was to her other knee. Hopefully it isn't a season ender.
The second half was mainly a back and forth match for the first 20 minutes with both teams getting a few chances but nobody could convert. With around 8 minutes to go we got a corner kick, Abbie took the kick and in true Beckham like fashion she bent it directly into the net to tie the match. This picked up the team and a couple of minutes later Abbie got the ball down low on the right side, she sent a cross into the middle of the field where Caydence was waiting and Caydence put it in for a 3-2 Shreve lead. We hung on for the final few minutes for the win. Shreve is now in the drivers seat to win the bracket. They need to win, tie or score 3 goals against Marshall on Friday to win the bracket and advance to the semis on Saturday.
Well done Girls!!!

Boys defeat Huntington 8-1
The boys moved the ball around pretty wellgiving them many opportunities as you might expect. Scoring summary is as follows;
Goals - Brennan -2, Conner -1, Sam -1, Will T.-1, Cody W.-1, Chris H.-1, Logan - 1
Assist - Paxton - 1, Cody - 1, Brennan - 1, Conner - 1, Jeff - 2, Logan - 1

Girls Beat Huntington 10-0
The Girls varsity team beat Huntington 10-0. Goals were scored by Abbie Cowley, Emily Watson, Caitlyn and Ashleigh FitzGerald, Katie Norgard got 2, Claudia Munoz got 2, Emily Pernice, and last but not least Ellen Lockhart who got her goal on a great header off an assist from Meredith Rosenzweig. Other assists were Caydence Leber who got 3, Kaitlyn Abney, Emily Pernici, Alexis Barron, Katie Norgard and Meredith.
Next up is the Mount Pleasant Tournament this Thursday and Friday.
Well done Gators!
Saturday, January 5
Girls and Neville play to 4-4 Tie
The girls varsity played a heck of a match and came away with a 4-4 tie with a very good Neville team. The scoring came early and often. Neville scored at the 1 minute mark when they had a long pass over the defense and the attacker got to the ball before Ellen and put it past her and made it 1-0. Less than a minute later Caydence made a nice pass to Abbie who put the ball in the net for a 1-1 tie. At around 6 minutes in Abbie took a corner kick, the ball went to Emily who headed it high and Caydence put the ball into the net. Midway thru the 1st half Caydence got tripped in the box and converted the penalty kick to make the score 3-1. Neville got a goal in the last minute of the first half to put the halftime score at 3-2.
The second half started and Neville put a lot of pressure on our defense and Ellen with several shots, most of which went high or wide. Ellen stopped all the others with a couple of good saves. About 15 minutes into the second half we got another goal off a nice Stephanie Hall pass to Abbie who passed it to Kaydence who put it in the goal for her 3rd goal of the match. A few minutes later Neville had the ball deep into our area and Ellen and 3 defenders all went for the ball. It was kicked and deflected right to a Neville player in front of the goal. She put it and the score was 4-3 Shreve. With about 5 minutes to go, Neville had a kick that Ellen got a hand on, it got past her, she dove and grabbed the ball right at the goal line. We all thought (as did Ellen) it didn't go over the line, but the referee and assistant referee thought it did go over the line and they awarded Nevile the goal. That tied the match and it ended that way.
The girls played a good match today. Neville is a good team. We moved the ball around real well. Everyone played hard the whole match. Well done girls!!!
Next up is Huntington on Tuesday.
Saturday, January 5
Varsity Boys lose to Parkway
In what appeared to be uninspired soccer the Gators were defeated by the Panthers 2-1. For much of the game Parkway controlled the tempo. We lacked aggressivness and desire. One highlight was a great save by Jeff Putnam on a rocket shot from Parkway's Ben Barcelona. Unfortunately we were unable to clear the ball out and about 20 seconds later, Parkway scored. Two minutes later they scored again on a nice cross and shot from about 8 yards out. In the 62nd minute the Gators made a run resulting in a goal by Will Monsour. Will scored off of a combo pass from Sam and Conner. Nothing much happened after that, game ends 2-1.
Next up, Huntington Tuesday night.
Friday, January 4
JV Boys defeat Ruston
From a JV parent,
The JV boys braved frigid temperatures in Wednesday nights game against Ruston. Ruston missed a golden opportunity in the first half when a PK sailed high and wide. In the second half Ruston missed two indirect free kicks and failed to score on 3 corner kicks. Colton Blount served a stint as goalie while Jared Hylander moved up to forward. The Shreve boys had difficulty getting shots on goal the whole game until with 1 minute remaining, Hylander hooked the ball in from 20 yards out. Shreve defenders Aaron Langston, Tyler Wagnon, Ben Strecker and Lennert Goetz fought back a powerful Ruston offense for the shutout. Congrats to the JV Gators.

Boys Beat Southwood 10-0
Thursday night the Varsity Boys had a lot of younger players on the field due to various ailments to some starters, The younger players proved to be all Shreve needed to defeat Southwood. As you would expect the Gators dominated the entire game. There was a lot of scoring and assist and it is summarized as follows:
Goals - Conner - 3, Jeff - 2, Chris L- 1, Brennan - 1, Hayden - 1, Cody M. - 1, Will T - 1
Assist - Brennan - 1, Jeff - 1, Chris H.- 2, Conner - 1, Johnny - 1, Hayden - 1, Paxton - 1
Thanks to Galen for keeping the standings and to Lisa Wisby for the game information while I was out of town.
Big game against Parkway Saturday at Caddo - 2:00.

Boys Beat Ruston 1-0
Trying to get over some problems with not so good soccer, the Varsity Boys defeated Ruston 1-0. It still wasn't pretty, but they did get the win. Christopher Lawrence scored off of a pass from Brennan for the only score of the game.

Girls Shutout Ruston 3-0
The Girls braved the cold weather and took care of business by shutting out the Ruston Bearcats 3-0 Wednesday night. Abbie Cowley got the first goal off a nice assist from Emily Watson. Abbie got the shot off only a yard or two off the goal line and somehow got the ball inside the far post for the score. Later in the first half Stephanie Hall had a great pass to Caydence Leber who put the ball into the net and gave Shreve a 2-0 lead. The half ended that way. In the second half we got another goal from Caydence off a pass from Stephanie. That finished the scoring. Shreve had a bunch of shots from a bunch of girls. Everyone got a good bit of playing time in this game. Ellen didn't have to do much in the game. It took about 60 minutes before she even touched the ball and I'm sure she liked it that way. It was a nice way to start the stretch run of the season.
Shreve will travel to Neville High school on Saturday for a noon match. The next district match will be Tuesday night vs Huntington. That match was originally scheduled for Monday but was moved because of the LSU football game.
Good job girls, it is nice to get a win in the books. Go Gators!!!!

Boys get 2 wins and 2 ties in Lafayette Tournament
The boys team came away with 2 ties on Saturday in the Lafayette Tournament. They tied Carencro 1-1 and also tied Teurlings Catholic 1-1.
Sunday the boys beat Morgan City 6-1 and then closed out the tournament by beating Comeaux 4-2. Shreve took 2nd place with a 2-0-2 record. Teurlings won the tournament by going 3-0-1.

Girls Fall to Magnet 6-1
It was close for 20 minutes then Magnet got 2 nice goals off headers within a 2 minute span to get all they needed to beat Shreve tonight. Magnet eventually went up 5-0 before Shreve finally scored late in the match off a nice cross from Caydence to Abbie who put it in the goal. Magnet got a late goal to end the scoring. Next up for the girls is Parkway on Thursday. That match may be changed due to finals.

Boys JV Down Loyola
Boys JV completed the sweep by defeating Loyola, 3-1. Loyola jumped out early, taking the opening kick off with a drive straight to the goal for the quick 1-0 lead. The Shreve defense woke up and didn't allow another goal. Shreve came back with a Michael White cross to Colton Blount for the first Shreve goal. Colton later took another pass from Michael and drove in close for the second goal. ( After a few games, there seems to be a pattern developing with these two) Near the end of the first half, Daniel Smith had a steal and a quick score. After the defense got shocked with that early goal, they came to life with very good play by Tyler Wagnon, Mitch Malone and Aaron Langston. Shreve Keeper Jared Hylander also performed exceptioanly well the whole game.
Good Job Gators !!!

Varsity Boys defeat Loyola 5 - 3
The Varsity Gators had a new look tonight as 5 of the regular starters were out for various reasons. Getting the opportunity to start tonight was Johnny Reisz, Christopher Lawrence, Chris Hammond, Austin Wisby & Will Terracciano. They played well considering they had not played together as a unit before. Things begin to gel in the middle of the 1st half when in the 18th minute, Conner Randel gave an assist to Will Monsour for the Gators 1st goal. Quickly again in the 22nd minute, Will passed to Cody Matthews for the score. In the 26th minute Will kicks a kick off with a crazy bounce over the Flyers keeper for goal #3. Loyola did make a great score in the 32nd minute with a cross and header. Not much Jeff could do on that one. The second half started with a Loyola score but in the 53rd minute Cody got his second goal off of a PK. Sam Fell stole the ball from a defender and made a great 20 yard shot from the deep left side. The Gators were up by 4 as Loyola ended the scoring with their own PK in the 64th minute. The new look defense played pretty well considering they were all in the back for the first time as a group. Good job.
Next stop is Lafayette. Go Gators.

Boys close out Showcase 1-1-1
Saturday morning found the Gators against University of Baton Rouge in a rematch from the Dutchtown Tournament. At that time we thought we were the better team but we tied that game. This time the boys hope to show they are the better team. The game started well, in the 9th minute Jordan Gray made a cross from the left, as the University keep reached for the ball, Chris Rakel kicked it right off his fingertips for the score. Coming in the 12th minute, Chris, Jordan and Will Monsour worked the ball from midfield. Will makes the final pass to Jordan who goes 1 v1 with the keeper for the easy goal. Up 2-0, the Gators seemd to relax as University turned the tide and seem to control the game for the rest of the first half. They score in the 23rd minute. The second half was fairly even. In the 48th minute, Christopher Lawrence makes a pass to Conner Randel to give Shreve a 3-1 lead and the game.
After a downpour wet the fields, it also seem to dampen the Gators enthusiasm. When going against the #1 team in the state you need to bring your "A" game. Shreve didn't bring any game at all. No highlights here. Shreve loses to St. Thomas More 6-0.
Next game, Monday night against Loyola,
Friday, December 14
Girls go 1-1 in Parkway Tournament
The girls varsity team went 1-1 Friday night at the Parkway tournament. Shreve opened up with a 3-2 loss to Parkway. Shreve got the first goal which was scored by Caydence, assisted by Abbie, then Parkway tied before half. Parkway got the next 2 goals, then Caydence got an unassited goal with a few minutes left. That is the second very close loss to Parkway in the last couple of weeks. After a one hour rest Shreve got to play Ruston who had not played yet Friday. Shreve totally controlled the ball, had numerous chances, but could only put 1 in for a 1-0 win. Caydence got the goal from an assist by Abbie. Ellen pretty much had the match off as the defense kept the ball out of our end for most of the match. Tomorrow morning we play Riverside High from Reserve, Louisiana which is between Baton Rouge and New Orleans.
Saturday's matches were rained out and the tournament canceled. It would have been nice to play Riverside but it was not to be. They were the weakest team in the bracket and lost their only match 7-0 to Parkway.
Next up for the Gators will be a big distict match vs Magnet on Monday night. Kickoff is 6 PM at Caddo.
Friday, December 14
Varsity Gators begin Louisiana Showcase in a 0-0- tie .
The Gators played an evenly matched game against the Lafayette Lions tonight Play went back and forth until the last part of the second half as Lafayette seemd to control the ball a little more. However the Gator defense rose to the occasion and stopped each run they made. Jeff Putnam in the goal made a very nice save on a hard free kick from about 25 yards out. A few minutes later Austin Wisby kicked the ball out of the goal area to save a potential goal. Shreve did have several opportunites during the game but failed to convert. University and # 1 St. Thomas More are on the schedule for tomorrow. Rain is predicted for the day.

Boys JV Has Tough 2-1 loss in Defensive Battle
The JV Gators took on Caddo Magnet JV last Monday in a game which was a defensive battle for most of the night. Magnet scored early, but the Gators put together strong defensive play for the rest of the night. The Gators scored on a free kick from Mat Ewardes to Michael White. White's header hit the left post but, Colton Blount was there for the rebound and punched it in. The game remained tied until 2 minutes left when Magnet got their second score. Great Job Gators in a disheartning loss.
The JV team is playing as well as any we've had in the past few years, keep up the good work and good luck in your tournament.

Gator Boys get Huge District Win
Only one word for tonight - OUTSTANDING !!! Shreve 1 Magnet 0
The Varsity Boys game through tonight with a huge win over the 5th ranked Caddo Magnet Mustangs. Coach Matt Smith made a change in the starting line up by moving Kevin Rakel to center fullback and Paxton Mosour into the center mid field. Both had an outstanding game. Paxton's Senior leadership and experience was very noticeable and he seem to always be in the mix when we were attacking the Magnet goal. At one point he had a tremendous one touch shot from 20 yards out. If the Magnet keeper had not been standing where he was, it would have been a goal.
The Gators played there second best 40 minutes, of the season in the first half, the defense was tremendous turning back the Magnet attack again and again. Cody, Kevin and Logan had an outstanding game. The entire team played an inspired half, but the best was yet to come.
The best 40 minutes started in the second half. It started evenly, toe to toe. In the 48th minute Brennan, Randel made a great pass to Conner Randel who dribbled from 30 yards out, eluding 2 Magnet defenders and made an awesome left foot goal from 10 yards . As Conner said after the game " they could've taken my legs out, I was going to score". Ouite a statement from the Freshman.
This goal sparked the team like we have not seen this season, Magnet was down and the Gators kept them there. Cody patrolled the defensive end like a man on a mission. He was not going to be scored on. The game turned very physical with many fouls and cards being given. Magnet had two prime opportunities to score on free kicks from just outside the 18. After a scramble in front of the goal on the first one, Logan Calhoun cleared the ball off the goal line, the second one with one minute remaining was very similar as Logan again cleared the ball out to midfield. The entire team took control the last 60 seconds and kept the ball away from our goal.
Not only the defense, but the midfield and forwards had a great game. Sean, Chris, Sam, Jordan and Will moved the ball very well. They were awesome. Special mention goes to Tyler Smith getting his first start of the season and putting it on the line. He had a great game on the left side. What an inspiration Jeff Putnam was in the Goal. Moving from the forward position to goalie due to the knee injury to Matt Green, Jeff was outstanding in the shutout. Kudo's to the Shreve Students. Thanks for your support.
Great Job to all of the Gators. I believe they now realize how good they can be. Here we come Lake Charles, Go Gators !!!!!!

Girls Shutout By Byrd
The girls finished a tough week by getting shutout by Byrd 4-0. That gives us our second 4-0 blanking by Byrd this year. No wind problems this time, we just got beat by a better team. We only got 2 shots on goal the entire match and Byrd played most of it on our end taking shots at our goal. Score was 2-0 at the half. The girls now get a much needed rest until next Thursday when they will tee it up in the Parkway tournament. We have seen 4 tough losses in the last week and we have a battered and bruised team.
Thanks to all the students who came out to support the Lady Gators.

JV Boys have a tough one against Byrd JV
In last nights game the JV Gators had a tough time playing against a Byrd team stacked with some varsity players. But the Gators played hard and gave it all they had. Colton Blount scored off of a steal in the first half and in the second half Colton got his second goal on an assist from Mat Edwardes. Later in the second half, Michael White scored from the right side with nice shot off of the left goal post.
Final score Byrd - 5 Shreve - 3
Thursday, December 6
Boys Varsity lose a close one.
The Gators had a tough pill to swallow aginst the rival Byrd Yellow Jackets tonight. In a fairly even match the Jackets prevail 1-0. The lone score came in the 27th minute after an apparent hand ball against Byrd but was not called by the referee, everyone froze for just a couple of seconds and that allowed a Byrd player to flick the ball over Matt's head from about 15 yards out.
The main problem tonight was finishing our opportunities. We have to get better at finishing what we started. Even though it was an even game , the Gators could have scored several times. Coulda, shoulda, woulda.
Huge district game next Monday night against district leading Caddo Magnet. If history means anything, this will be another exiting game between the Mustangs and the Gators.
Come out and support your Gators.

JV Boys Shutout Airline 1-0
After playing 4 games over the weekend, the JV Gators came through on a cold night to defeat the Vikings 1-0. The lone goal was scored by Dylan Touchstone off of an assist by Colton Blount's indirect free kick. Good Job guys !!
Tuesday, December 4
Varsity Boys take 5-3 District win over Airline
The boys started off well and got a quick goal from Brennan Randel as he stole the ball from a Viking defender in the 7th minute. Shreve seem to dominate play as they stayed in their half of the field most of the first half. In the 37th minute, Brennan scores again off of a short pass from Kevin Rakel. The 1st half also saw two great saves by Matt Green as Airline scrambled for a shot inside the Shreve goal area.
The second half started slow for the Gators, as Airline was able to score in the 43rd minute. But 4 minutes later, Tyler Smith made a huge cross from just inside the touchline to a waiting Brennan, who one touched in for his hat trick. Shreve seemd to be rolling as Kevin Rakel collected a goal from about 20 yards out. In the 70th minute a foul by Shreve in the penalty box gave Airline the PK and ultimately a goal. Shreve is up 4-2 at this point. Toward the end of the game both teams swapped goals as Brennan scored his 4th of the night.
Overall, the team played well, but still seem to be trying to learn each other. They are playing together, but just seem to be out of sync on occasions. The important thing is they are winning the games they need to. Good things are to come from this bunch.
Final Score Shreve 5 Airline 3
Huge game Thursday against Byrd at Caddo Soccer Field. 7:45

Girls Lose District Match to Airline 5-2
Win as a team and lose as a team. The girls in green can say they lost this one as a team. In what was their worst match of the year Shreve took it on the chin and lost 5-2 to Airline. First the good news. The two goals we got were wonderful goals. First half it was Caydence to Abbie on a great cross and header, and in the second half Abbie returned the favor and assisted Caydence. The rest of the match wasn't so nice as Shreve made mistakes all over the field and lost what I feel was a very winnable match. It isn't often you can say that about a 5-2 loss but we could easily have had 3 more goals and they have to feel they got a little lucky on 3 or 4 of their goals.
Hopefully everyone got their bad game out of the way at one time. Defense, midfield, and offense all played worse than what we are used to seeing from them. We let one get away and now the Thursday match with Byrd is huge. We need a win or two out of our district matches with Byrd, Airline, or Magnet to get into the playoffs. The girls need to forget this one and get ready for the Yellowjackets.
In JV action the Green team took care of business and beat the Airline JV 2-0. The White team lost to Parkway 6-0.
Girls and Byrd face off at 6 PM Thursday at Caddo. Be there.
Monday, December 3
JV Boys fair well in Bossier Tournament
The Boys JV team did well in their first tournament of the year going 2-1 in bracket play and playing in the semi finals. Thursday night started off in a tough battle against Neville. This was a defensive battle and the only score came on a free kick by Neville that found it's way aound the Shreve wall. Gators fall 1-0 in the opener.
Friday night was a much better outing for the Gators as they took on Parkway. Early in the game Tyler Wagnon took a free kick deep in Shreve territory and it was received by Colton Blount. Colton took the ball and worked his way to the goal. He place it past the keeper and off the corner post for the 1-0 lead. Later in the half, Colton made an assist to Michael White in the box for a nice goal. Colton continued to play strong as he took a weak Parkway goal kick and after great effort found the back of the net. Still in the first half, Wagnon took another weak goal kick from Parkway and scored. The scoring continued as Michael White scored his second goal off of a pass from Mat Edwardes. The last goal was by Jared Hylander on a penalty kick. Shreve defeats Parkway 6-0.
Saturday morning The boys took on West Monroe. The wind played a big part in this game, keeping the scoring to a minimum. Both teams played strong defense but in the end, Mat Edwardes was able to get a cross off to Michael White for a nice two touch shot and the only score of the game. Shreve finishes bracket play at 2-1.
Semi-final. In a showdown of rivals, the Gators and Jackets faced off. The Jackets got an early break and scored in the first 30 seconds. The only highlight for the Gators was a punt by Jared Hylander which cleared midfield. If was taken by Lennart Goetz into the Byrd penalty area, he got off a nice kick to give Shreve it's only goal. Byrd was to strong on this afternoon and defeated the Gators 6-1. Congratulations for a very nice showing in the first tournament. Good things will come from the JV in the weeks ahead.

Girls Lose to Magnet 3-1 in Gator Cup
The Lady Gators fought hard but didn't have enough to beat Caddo Magnet 3-1 Saturday morning. Magnet went up 2-0 but in the middle of the second period Shreve scored when Caydence Leber took a pass from Abbie Cowley and put it in over the keeper to make the score 2-1. Magnet got the last goal in the last minute of the match.
Shreve ended up the tournament with a 1-2 record but played well in every match. Parkway scored in the last 2 minutes to beat us and Magnet clinched their match with less than a minute to go. Hopefully we will get Stephanie and Caroline back this week for our important district matches with Airline and Byrd.
We play Airline on Monday at Tinsley and Byrd at Caddo on Thursday.

Girls Lose Heartbreaker to Parkway
The Shreve girls lost 2-1 to Parkway Friday in their second match of the Gator Cup. Shreve scored midway through the first half when Caydence Leber put in a cross from Abbie Cowley. Parkway put a lot of pressure on our defense but we held on to a 1-0 lead at the half. Parkway finally scored about 10 minutes into the second half and then got the game winning goal with 2 minutes to go. The girls played well but just weren't able to hold the Panthers long enough to get the win or tie.
Next up is Caddo Magnet at 10:30 Saturday morning. Shreve needs to win or tie to have a chance to advance to the semis.
Thursday, November 29
Girls Open Gator Cup with 3-0 Win over Haughton
Shreve opened the 2007 Gator Cup with a 3-0 shutout over Haughton. Abbie Cowley scored all 3 goals. The first 2 goals came within the first 10 minutes of the match. The first was off a ball deflected back to Abbie and she put it in from 10 yards. The second came off a free kick from 25 yards. The last goal came near the end of the half. Shreve also had a goal called back due to offsides in the first half. The second half didn't see either team score.
Next up is Parkway on Friday at 6:30. Parkway lost a good match 2-0 to Caddo Magnet Thursday night. Should be a good match for the Gators.
The 2 Shreve JV teams played each other Thursday with the Green team coming away with a 6-0 win.

2007 Gator Cup Results
Sunday, November 25
Saturday at Dutchtown
After raining most of Friday night, the field was wet and the Gators played a little sloppy. The Gators seem to be more skilled and more talented than the team from University, but it appeared our heads weren't quite in the game. At the 3 miniute mark, University was awarded a PK on a handball. However, after a great effort by Matt Green, the ball was knocked away. In the 7th minute, Paxton sent a ball from the back to midfield where it was collected by Brennan. He quickly got behind the Unversity defenders and was able to take it all the way in for the score. Shreve is up 1-0. It seemed the Gators were on the way.
The second half began with the Gators playing on our defensive half of the field to often. The communication just didn't seem to be there as it was on Friday. In the 19th minute we again gave University another PK on a foul in the penalty area. This time however, University was able to connect and tied the score 1-1. The game played out pretty much the same the rest of the way and ended in a 1-1 tie. The tie combined with a Rummel win, sent the Gators home earlier than expected.
Next up, Southwood at Cargill on Monday night. Out for District win #2.
Friday, November 23
Boys win and tie on 1st day of Dutchtown Tournament.
The Boys varsity started off the Dutchtown tournament with a tie against Rummel. The first half was scorelees as both teams played an evenly matched game. There were very few chances to score for either team. The second half started a little bit differently. 5 minutes into the second half, Paxton Monsour receive a straight red card, It was totally undeserved. A horrible call by the referee. Paxton and a Rummel player met hard in the air on a 50/50 ball. The referee said Paxton was trying to elbow the other player in the head. At worst one or both players could have receive a yellow card but neither should have. The incident seemed to charge up the gators as now we are playing a man down. At the 38 minute mark Logan Calhoun saves a ball on the goal line and kicks it to midfield. Will Monsour then makes a great pass to Brennan Randel, who has a 35 yard breakaway, He makes it around the Rummel keeper for a 1-0 lead. At the 50 minute mark Shreve scores again, unfortunately it was an own goal. In a scamble on front of our goal Chris Rakel made an attempt at a save but hit Matt Green and the ball deflected into the goal. Two players trying to come up with the ball, it was just bad luck. Game ended 1-1.
Game 2 vs St Amant.
The Gators started off getting a feel for St. Amant and once they did, dominated the game. The offense attacked the goal relentlesly. Sean, Brennan, Chris, Will Sam, Jordan and Jeff were giving the St. Amant defense fits. In the 22nd minute, Conner Randel made a sweet pass to Brennan who scored the goal. This will be the first of I believe many brother to brother combos over the next couple of years. First half ended 1-0. In the 4th minute of the second half, Conner makes a goal off the rebound of Brennan's shot. Right place, right time. Six minutes later, Jeff makes a hard shot which bounces off of the defending keeper and Johnny "on the spot" Reisz, puts in in from 12 yards out. We missed several other opportunites, but the important thing was the 3-0 victory which sets us up to make the semis with a tie or a win Saturday morning. Kudos to the defense for the shut out. Great playing by Cody, Kevin and Logan. The shutout was preserved with good keeper work from Matt Green. Tune in Sunday morning for the final results.

Gators open Season with District win over Huntington
The boys varsity started the 2007/08 season with a relatively easy game against the Huntington Raiders tonight. The Raiders were completely out played the entire game. There was plenty of scoring to go around during the Gators 10-0 victory. Jeff Putnam started in off in the 3rd minute with a nice 25 yard shot from the right side into the upper left 90 of the goal.&nbs |
