Sunday, August 27 new pitching rule for 2007 Saturday, August 26 LITTLE LEAGUE ADOPTS A PITCH COUNT FOR 2007 Steven Keener CEO of Little League of Little League Baseball announced yesterday that Little League would adopt a pitch count for the 2007 season in Baseball. This program will replace the conventional innings pitched rule Little League has been using. This program will be used in both regular season and tournament play in 2007. The program is designed to protect the arms of youngsters playing Little League baseball. In his news conference Mr. Keener encouraged all youth baseball organizations to look at the adoption of their own pitch count program. The regular season pitch count rules for 2007 will be as follows: 17 - 18 year olds 105 maximum pitches 13 - 16 year olds 95 maximum pitches 11 - 12 year olds 85 maximum pitches 10 - under 75 maximum pitches REST REQUIREMENTS for Ages 7 - 16 61 or more pitches 3 calendar days of rest 41 - 60 pitches 2 calendar days of rest 21 - 40 pitches 1 calendar day of rest 1 - 20 pitches no calendar days of rest needed REST REQUIREMENTS for Ages 17 - 18 76 or more pitches 3 calendar days of rest 51 - 75 pitches 2 calendar days of rest 26 - 50 pitches 1 calendar day of rest 1 - 25 pitches no calendar days of rest needed The final numbers for the tournament have not been finalized but should be done before the printing of the rule books in October. Details of how the pitch count will be maintained have not been released at this time. This program does not apply to Softball! |
