PEYTON BLEWETT HONORED FOR HIS YEARS OF COMMITMENT TO TENNIS

    In the September City Council meeting, the City of Mayfield, Mayfield Independent Schools, and a group of tennis enthusists recognized Peyton Blewett for his many years of service to the community and many local tennis players. Peyton has introduced many new people to the game of tennis and has touched many lives in the process.
    Peyton began playing tennis in 1953 and gave his first lesson in 1956. He was hired by the Mayfield Recreation Department to give summer lessons behind the current Mayfield Middle School. Peyton continued to teach thousands of players over the next 50 years. He wanted to become a good player, so that he could teach others. His unselfish desire to help others is why he was recognize.
    He was awarded with a plague that will be posted at the Mayfield High School Courts. The City of Mayfield recognized by commemorating September 12th as "Peyton Blewett Day". Other gifts were also given to him by his tennis family. Thanks Peyton.


ANDY & KELLY MILLER RECEIVE THE 2004 "ROWLAND-EAST SPIRIT AWARD"

    Andy and Kelly Miller are the 2004 recipients of the "Purchase Area League Award". They were chosen from the entire league because they have displayed the qualities needed to maintain and grow tennis in our community. Some of which are, love of the game, tireless support, and a helpful and upbeat attitude.
    Andy was Vice President for two years. Along with that he attended many state meetings and training. He has written for and received numerous grants for our area. It is with these grants we are able to have tournaments, juniors programs.......
    Kelly has been the Junior program director for two years. She has also stepped in to finish the term of the vacating Secretary.
    Together they have grown our junior program into what it is today. They have made great strides for tennis in our community. Our continued growth depends on our youth.
   


MAYFIELD 4.0 WOMEN WIN NATIONAL TOURNAMENT
Hubbard 4.0 team
October 10-13, our own local Mayfield/Murray 4.0 adult women, captained by Esther Hubbard, played and won the national championship. They played 3 matches in their bracket, "New England, Northern California and Intermountain," and won all 3 to qualify for the semi-finals. They then played Hawaii in the semi-finals and won to advance to the finals. In a very intense match they beat Florida to become #1 in the Nation. This is the first National team winner from the Mayfield/Murray League. They won the state and southern section tournament to qualify for the national tournament.

Esther Hubbard’s 4.0 team consisted of players from Mayfield, Murray, Paducah, New Concord, Cadiz, Metropolis, IL, Jackson, TN, and Atoka, TN. The roster for the winning team is Captain - Esther Hubbard, Cindy Morgan, Kimberly Cates, Beverly Ezell, Mary Lee Clark, Binkie Whitnell, Kathy Thompson, Doris Glaz, Kim Trimm, Lisa Hollis, Sandy Bridges, Liza Holman, Charity Wilson, and Sharman Coley.

Hubbard’s 4.0 senior women’s team won the state and sectional tournaments as well. They played in the national tournament and won 2nd in their bracket. The players are the following: Captain - Esther Hubbard, Mary Lee Clark, Ellen Wise, Marla Boyer, Bobbie Ogletree, Bev Nuerge, Suzanne Dilihay, Liza Holman, Lousie Owen, and Diana Harris.
