Going into the bottom of the 7th tied 7-7 , Mountain bunted the first two on and eventually scored going on to win 8-7 . STL vs SSM

Southern Timber

vs

Southern Stars of Montgomery

The Southern Timber League's OTM Gold Jr's opened against the Southern Stars at Patterson field Friday night . The best 2 of 3 state tournament was the final leg to advance to the world . Coming out of the sub state with a 4-0 record we felt pretty good about our opportunities , but Friday night after a 3 hour rain delay , fell short and lost to the Stars 7-2 , which by the way was the teams first or second loss of the season. Saturday morning was a differnt ball game . OTM's Will McKay started and was very affective and grew per pitch . Before you knew it Mountain sent 11 hitters with 4 hits and plated 7 runs in the top of the first and went on to win 12 to 2 . The 3rd and deciding game was as good as the second . The Stars struggled against Erik Lawrence , a hard throwing right hander . OTM was up 3 to 1 in the 3rd inning and would not let up. Everyone came prepared , mentally , physically, they played great ball and had a blast doing it . "These kids aren't just good athletes , their good kids and they have grown in so many ways this summer " said Mgr. Jody Odom . OTM went on to win the State title 11 to 6 advancing to the World next week.

State Tournament News
moving ball
Over the Mountain's Blue and Gold teams entered into State competition last week .OTM hosted the Dizzy Dean Senior Division State Tournament at Hewitt Trussville High School. Thanks to Coach Tim Meechum for allowing us to use the facility , a well maintained, beautiful field .OTM Blue drew Fultondale their first game and Gold would meet Locust Fork.Montre Battle would open the game for the blue team.Defense was tough only giving up 1 in the 3rd. and 1 in the 6th. Losing 2 to 0 in the top of 6, some of OTM's bats showed up scoring 2 to tie the game. The 7th,8th, and 9th, produced 0 for Mountain but unfortuantly scored 1 for Fultondale winning 3 to 2 in 9 innings. Although OTM lost Montre pitched one superior ballgame . OTM Gold opened with Locust Fork. Dave Guyton and Jamie Brown threw a combined 5 innings and with some strong hitting and a homerun by Levi Patmon ended the game with a win for Gold 12-2 .OTM Blue played Holy Pond ,who lost their opener to Oak Grove .Now this was a back and forth game,OTM scored 3 in the 1st, but Holy Pond scored 5 . In the top of the 2nd OTM's Matt Wornat hits his 1st grandslam of the day taking the score to 7-5 . After scoring 1 more in the 3rd OTM led 8-5 but here comes Holy Pond again scoring 4 in the 4th going ahead 9-8.After putting 4 more on the board Holy Pond leading 13-8 found out that OTM was not going to quit giving up 5 runs and allowing the game to be tied. OTMshut down Holly Ponds hopes in the 7th only to come back in the bottom of 7 to break the tie off of Matt Wornat's 2nd grandslam of the game . OTM Blue wins 18-13 and advances to the next
game. Matt Wornat's 2 grand slams, a double and a single plated 11 rbi's for OTM Blue. Matt was also named MVP of the state tournament . OTM Gold's Michael McSweeney a 2nd baseman for his high school team, took the mound .Michael pitched a great game against a very good Oak Grove team, throwing a 14-0 no hit shutout. Along with the help of his teamates earning 8 hits in 4 innings.OTM Blue still fighting their way through the loser bracket faced Mt. Olive and were down 5-0 going into the bottom of 2. After scoring 2 in the 2nd Mt. Olive was up 5-2. OTM gave up 6 runs in the 3rd and 4th going down 11-2 in the bottom of 4.Things looked really for Mountain but they contiued to pick ,finally in the bottom of 5 we exploded with 8 runs bringing it back to a 1 run game .Mt. Olive sent 1 across in the 6th leading 12-10.We were not through yet,in the 6th Dustin Brenton's lead off single and a double from Montre Battle scoring Brenton.Daniel Moore lined one to right plating Battle this game was now tied 12-12.We shut Mt.Olive out in the top of 7.David DeKay one of Mountains catchers led off with a single, followed with a walk from Brenton and again at the plate was OTM's 1st baseman Daniel Moore who scored DeKay the winning run, with his 4th single of the game OTM wins 13-12.OTM Gold's Kevin Bufford out of Parker High took the mound against Fultondale pitching 4 solid innings giving up only 1.Jamie Brown closed the game in 5, after OTM was winning 12-1 .Blue's next game a 15 yr. old named Zack Wright threw a 7-0 1 hit, no walk, shutout. The loss was Tarrant City's 2nd loss and they were eliminated .
OTM Gold faces Shelby Academy next the only other undefeated team Dave Guyton pitched a 6-0 shutout, while teamates McSweeney,Brown,
Jake Langley and Ben Stuart led the hitting compiling the 6 runs.It was down to 4 final teams Central Baldwin,Shelby Academy,OTM Blue and OTM Gold. We hoped it would come down to a championship game between the two Mountain teams , but Central Baldwin stood in the way for the blue team. The Baldwin team was pretty tough especially for a younger team but the kids stood their ground closing the 4th inning 0-0.OTM's Dustin Brenton another outstanding 15 yr. old threw a 1 hit 7 inning game, but a throwing era in the 5th gave Central Baldwin the 1 run they needed to put a closing pitcher in,and thats exactly what he did. OTM Blue's fight for the state came to an end .OTM Blue finishes the tournament 4th place. The Gold team was sitting in the championship game waiting on the winner of the Shelby Academy vs Central Baldwin game,in which Shelby Academy proved to be the stronger of the two, eliminating Baldwin. So here we are championship game OTM Gold vs Shelby Academy .Shelby would have to beat gold twice.Kevin Bufford opens the game on the mound Shelby goes up 1 in the 1st but OTM matches and added a 2nd inthe 2.Shelby fought back plating 2 taking the lead 3-2.Jordan Roberson an OF and 3B for the gold team ties it 3-3 with his leadoff homerun in the 4th.Shelby Academy again scores 2 to go back on top 5-3,but not for long McSweeney and Kennedy draw walks Patmon drives in McSweeney and Langley drives in Kennedy tieing the game once again and not stopping there piled on 6 more to guarantee the win 11-5 OVER THE MOUNTAIN GOLD WINS SECOND STRAIGHT STATE TITLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OTM GOLD will move on to Southhaven Miss. to represent Alabama in the Senior Division World Series

Thank you !!!! Thank you !!!!

I personnally would like to thank all of the volunteers that helped make the State Tournament a success. Also we had a couple of sponsors we would like to aknowledge ,such as Baden Baseballs for their help, Southern Comfort Conversions, Cool Breeze Vending, Hewitt Trussville High, and also Dominoe's Pizza of Trussville who kept us heavily supplied . I know the kids & coaches were very happy . Getting back to the individuals first off Coach Meechum and his assistant for the use of his facility and all of their hard work on the field and off to make the State a success, also his wife and family running the concession stand. So much had to be done from scorekeeping, announcing, gate collection, field maintenance to chasing foul balls. The people that helped to make it possible are :Rod & Robin McSweeney,Trey & Robin Watts, Nancy Brenton, David Needham, Ron & Sofi Orton, John Oddo, Jody Odom, Keith Liner,Steven Kennedy, & many others.Everyone knows what they did and how it helped, so once again THANK YOU VERY MUCH !!!
