Situational Hitting/Pitching The drill is for the batter, pitcher and catcher. At all times, the batter is trying to reach base, while the pitcher and catcher are trying to get the batter out. First time up, the batter starts with no balls and no strikes. Second time up, batter starts with a no balls and two strike count. Third time up, the batter starts with no balls and no strikes. Fourth time up, batter starts with three balls and no strikes. Last time up, batter starts with three balls and two strikes. For variation, the whole team can be rotated through the entire pitching staff. The pitcher and catcher are continually working on the right strategy for different counts. Additionally, the batter can be given different situations, such as a runner on first with no outs.
