SENIORS Monday 6/09 Mascelli 23 Mills 4 Sean Deely banged out 4 hits and 8 rbi's including 2 home runs and Jason Durnan added 3 hits including 2 doubles and scored 4 runs to lead Mascelli to the win. Sean Deely pitched 4 innings to pick up the victory, allowing only 1 run and 2 hits while striking out 10. Tim Parks, Chris Deely and Jack Ruello (double and home run) each added two hits. Jack Hagood (double), Jimmy Pierce, Tighe Dunlavey (double) and Josh Nachlis chipped in with hits. For Mills, Tyler Signora had a three run homer and Chris Conaty, Drew Bechtold, Luke Bianchino, Connor Pierce and Nick Robino had hits. Monday 6/09 Mattern 14 Hypoint 1 Mattern’s Sean Sarbaugh pitched a complete game, allowed only 1 run on 1 hit and struck out 8 as he led his team to a 14-1 victory in game one of the playoff series. Offensively, Mattern had 13 hits on the night led by Sam Mattern who had 2 hits and 5 RBI’s, (3 of which came off of a 3 run homer in the 3rd inning.) Michael Schell, Kyle Green and Scott Davis followed with 2 hits a piece and Sean Sarbaugh, Richie Windon, Chris Clark, Sean Green and Zack Plasmier each picked up hits as well. For Hypoint, Peter Smith had a base hit in the 4th inning. Wednesday 6/11 Mattern 11 Hypoint 4 Mattern and Associates topped Hypoint 11-4 Wednesday night to win the 1st round of the playoffs and advance to the Naamans Majors Division Championship Series. Matterns Michael Schell recorded the win by pitching a complete game, allowing only 4 runs on 8 hits and striking out 5 in his 6 innings of work. Mattern jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the 1st and never fell behind and as they tacked on 1 more in the 2nd , 1 in the 3rd and 4 more in the 5th. Hypoint tried to mount a last minute comeback in the bottom of the 6th when they loaded the bases and scored 3 runs on key hits from Jonathan Harris, Tommy Larson and Danny McFadden. It looked as if they may get a few more when Kevin Laplante drove a fastball to right but Richie Windon made a running catch to end the inning and the game. Matterns offense was led by Sean Sarbaugh who had 3 hits on the night followed by Kyle Green who had 2 hits, Alex Schwartz with 1 hit and Sam Mattern who tripled in the 6th. For Hypoint, Thomas Diamanty, JP Sawyer, Patrick Crowley, Brady Freidken and Kevin Laplante also had hits in the game. Wednesday 6/11 Mascelli 17 Mills 8 Mascelli jumped out to an early lead with a nine run first inning and stayed ahead of Mills' comeback attempts to advance to the Championship series against Mattern. Jimmy Pierce's grand slam home run was the big blow in the first inning. Pierce ended up with 3 hits on the night. Jason Durnan had 3 hits and 3 rbi's with a double and Sean Deely (double, 3 rbi's), Tim Parks and Ryan Driscoll each had two hits. Mascelli also got base hits from Jack Hagood, Chris Deely, Tighe Dunlavey and Tim Rickert. Hagood pitched 4 1/3 innings to pick up the win. For Mills, Tyler Signora went 3 for 4 with two double and Drew Bechtold had two hits including a three run homer. Chris Conaty, Max Carney and Luke Bianchino also had base hits. Championship Monday 6/16 Mascelli 13 Mattern 11 The Majors Championship series opened with a wild see-saw affair with Mascelli eventually prevailing 13-11 to take a 1-0 series lead. Mattern jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning led by Scott Davis and Sean Sarbaugh base hits. Mascelli came right back to take a 4-3 lead after 2 innings with Chris Deely, Jason Durnan and Sean Deely getting key hits. Mascelli added two more runs in the 3rd on a Chris Deely triple and two more in the 4th on hits by Durnan and Chris Deely. Mattern added a run in the 4th on a Michael Schell base hit to make the score 8-4. Mascelli then posted a five run 5th with the key blow a Sean Deely home run to take what looked like a comfortable lead 13-4. But Mattern came storming back with a 7 run 5th inning to make it 13-11. Richie Windon had two hits in the inning, Scott Davis a triple, Sam Mattern and Michael Schell doubles. This set the stage for the dramaticic 6th inning. With the tieing runs on and two outs, Chris Deely cut off Sam Mattern's hard hit ground ball to get the final out. For Mattern, Richie Windon went 3 for 4, Scott Davis, Sean Sarbaugh and Michael Schell each had two hits and Sam Mattern, Kyle Green, Christian Clark and Alex Schwartz had base hits. For Mascell, Chris Deely went 3 for 3, Jason Durnan 3 for 4, Sean Deely and Tim Parks two hits each. Wednesday 6/18 Mattern 24 Mascelli 2 Matterns Michael Schell had a outstanding night on the mound holding a hard hitting Mascelli line-up to just 2 runs on 9 hits in his 5 1/3 innings of work. Schell helped his cause by going 5 for 5 at the plate with 3 doubles, 2 singles and 5 RBIS. Mattern jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the 1st and never looked back as they pounded out 23 hits from players throughout their line-up. Sam Mattern (2 singles, HR) and Richie Windon (2 doubles, single) both went 3 for 4 and each scored 3 runs a piece. Scott Davis, Sean Sarbaugh (HR), Kyle Green and Zack Plasmier each had 2 hits and Chris Clark, Alex Schwartz, Sean Green and Henry Gise each chipped in for hits as well. For Mascelli, Jimmy Pierce (double, single) and Tighe Dunlavey led their team with 2 hits each. Jack Hagood, Jason Durnan, Sean Deely, Jack Ruello, and Josh Nachlis (double) each picked up a hit a piece. With tonights win Mattern ties the series at 1-1 and forces a 3rd game to decide the Majors Division Champion Friday at 6:30PM at Heeney. Friday 6/20/08 Mattern 8 Mascelli 5 (8 inn) With the series tied at a game a piece, Mattern and Associates and Mascelli Financial battled it out in an 8 inning thriller Friday night to determine the 2008 Naamans Majors Championship. Matterns, Sean Sarbaugh and Mascelli's, Sean Deely faced off in a pitchers duel for 5 1/3 innings each allowing just just 2 runs in in regulation play. Down 2-0 in the top of the 6th, Mascelli tied the game on base hits from Sean Deely, Jimmy Pierce and a Timmy Parks double to send the game to extra innings. Mascelli rallied in the top of the 7th scoring 3 more runs when Jack Hagood singled, Jason Durnan and Jimmy Pierce walked and Timmy Parks had another key hit scoring the go ahead runs. Down 5-2 in the bottom of the 7th, Mattern battled back tying the game on a Scott Davis single, a home run from Sean Sarbaugh and base hits from Sam Mattern, Chris Clark and Kyle Green. With the game winning run on 3rd, Zack Plasmier hit a hard line drive to short that looked like the game winner but Jason Durnan made a spectacular catch and the fired to 3rd to double up the runner and force the game to an 8th inning. Zack Plasmier came in relief for Mattern and held Mascelli scorele ss in the top of the 8th and opened the door for Mattern as Alex Schwartz and Scott Davis Singled and Sean Sarbaugh hit a 3 run walk off homerun to end the game and win the championship for Mattern. Sarbaugh had a stellar night at the plate going 4 for 4 with a double and 3 homeruns. Mascelli also had hits on the night from Chris Deely (2 for 4 with a double) and Tighe Dunlavey. Congratulations to the Mascelli and Mattern teams teams for playing outstanding baseball throughout the the 3 game series. Both teams played with everything they had in all 3 games and showed the heart and determination that is what Naamans baseball is all about. The A’s played outstanding defense and showed tons of heart in bouncing back from 1-0 and 4-1 deficits to force the game into the later innings until Flanagan laced a 2 run double to center, and a batter later Edelman took the count to 3-2, before crushing a three run homer to left to give the Phils a 9-2 lead. Despite the 7 run deficit, the A’s dug deep to mount a final charge, adding a pair of runs in the 5th and a single run in the 6th before Phils’ catcher Tommy Donofrio gunned down a would be base-stealer with a perfect throw to Flanagan at 2B to end the game. The A’s, Bobby Rhodunda and Jacob Meisel had two hits apiece, and Reece Koehler knocked in a pair of runs with a sharp single to right and uncorked a laser from deep left to third base to throw out a runner to keep the game in reach. Chris Lee pitched his heart out, holding the Phils to 4 runs in 3 innings, striking out 5, and walking only 3. Reliever Matty Steptoe held his own, striking out 3 in 2 innings. The Phils, Donofrio went 3-3 with an RBI, Ryan Maffia had an RBI triple, and Harrison Meck, Owen Anderson and Jake Bradshaw led off the decisive 4th inning by loading the bases for Flanagan and Edelman’s heroics. Wednesday 6/11 Moon Plumbing 15 Union Wholesale 0 Saturday 6/14 Tiki Music 6 Moon Plumbing 5 Trailing 5-3 in the bottom of the 6th and final inning, the gritty Phils rallied for 3 runs to win the AA Championship 6-5. RJ Edelman led off the inning with a clean single to right. Garrett Johnson followed by lining a double to left center, scoring Edelman to draw the Phils within a run. Ryan Maffia crushed a double to right center, scoring Johnson to tie the game. After Tommy Donofrio worked a walk, Bryan Steinberg pushed a groundball to the right side into the drawn in DBax infield that scored Maffia with the game winner. DBax starter Adam Reynolds pitched three sterling innings, striking out 8 of the 12 batters he faced, and surrendering only one walk without yielding a run. His teammates jumped out to a 4-0 lead with a run in the first and 3 in the third. Matty Arrabel led off the game with a booming double to deep right center, and scored on the next pitch, a George Steinhoff single to right. That one run remained the only tally of the game until the DBax fourth, when Steinhoff and Reynolds drew walks and scored on Reade Aiello's triple to the wall in left center. Aiello scored on Matt Parrish's grounder to shortstop for the DBax 4th run. Trailing 4-0 in the fourth, the Phillies finally got on the scoreboard with a 3 spot of their own. Edelman doubled to center to lead off the inning and scored on Johnson's double to left center. After a Maffia walk, Donofrio punched a sacrifice fly to left scoring Maffia on the tag up, for a 4-3 game with two innings to play. Edelman retired the DBax without a run in the fifth, with a big assist from Donofrio behind the plate, as Tommy threw out his second base stealer of the game to end the inning. Aiello returned the favor by shutting out the Phils in the home 5th. Arrabel doubled just inside the right field line and scored on Aiello's grounder to second for a 5-3 DBax lead and the Phils down to their final three outs. Starter Jakob Flanagan pitched a great game for the Phils, going 4 innings and yielding only 4 hits and two walks, while striking out 6.It was Flanagan's second straight outstanding playoff effort, coming on the heels of his 2.2 no-hit innings in the semifinals. Jakob kept cool, worked smart and kept his team in the game despite some rockets off the DBax bats. Centerfielder Matt Rosenthal helped keep the game in reach by chasing down 4 DBax extra base hits and firing lasers back to the infield. Maffia played thirdbase flawlessly, posting two putouts and an assistm and Johnson and Steinberg posted two RBI's each. The game capped a tremendous regular season for both teams. The Phils ended the season on a 10 game winning streak, while the DBax were the highest scoring team in AA, and put together a magnificent thirteen win season. The two evenly matched teams brought out the best in each other and ended the AA season in style. Hats off to the DBax and Phillies. Both teams played like true champions. MAJORS Pepperidge Farm 10 Hypoint 9 - Led by Ben Crain's 2 home runs and 6 rbi's, Pepperidge Farm ended their 2008 season on a high note by defeating Hypoint 10-9. Matty Lynch picked up the win in relief of Patrick King and Graham Haines ended the game with a diving stab of a line drive to his right. Crain led off the first with a home run and follwed that with a grand slam in his second at bat. Having extra base hits for Hypoint were LaPlante, Diamanty, Smith and Larson each with a double and Harris with a triple. Pepperidge finishes the seaon with a record of 7 and 11 while Hypoint moves on to meet Mattern in the first round of the playoffs. Mattern 18 Horizon 11 -Mattern and Associates wrapped up the regular season Saturday night by topping Horizon 18-11 and finishing up with a record of 17-1. Matterns offense cranked out 19 hits on the night. Michael Schell led the attack with 4 hits including a double and 3 singles. Richie Windon (2 doubles, single), Scott Davis (3 singles), and Kyle Green (3 singles) each had three hits a piece while Sam Mattern (double, HR) and Sean Sarbaugh (2 singles) each picked up 2 hits. Henry Gise chipped in for a hit and Alex Schwartz went deep to the right field bleachers for his 1st homerun in the majors. For Horizon, Kevin Reardon and Robby Needs had 2 hits a piece followed by Doug Ryan, Tommy Welch, Zack Wilbank and Luke Digiovanni who each picked up a hit a piece. Mascelli 8 Horizon 0 - Sean Deely and Jack Hagood combined on a two hit shutout with 13 k's for Mascelli. Sean Deely and Jason Durnan each had two hits. Chis Deely added two hits as well including a double. Tim Parks, Jack Ruello and Jimmy Pierce each chipped in with two run doubles. Doug Ryan and Kevin Reardon had hits for Horizon. Hypoint 16 Mascelli 15 -This was a high scoring affair, and neither team seemed to want to play defense. Peter Smith(3H,3R,5RBI) hit 2 - 2 run home runs to lead Hypoint over Mascelli. Kevin LaPlante(4R), John Harris(3R,2RBI), Dan McFadden(2B,1R,2RBI), and Patrick Crowley(1R) each had 2 hits. Tommy Larson(1R,2RBI), Brady Friedkin, and Brendan Pie(1R) each got a hit. For Mascelli, Sean Deeley(2H,1R,4RBI) and Jack Ruello(2H,1R,4RBI) both had home runs. Jason Durnan(3R) had 3 hits. Chris Deeley(2R,2RBI) had 2 doubles. Jack Hagood(3R) and Timmy Parks(2R,2RBI) had 2 hits. Tigue Dunlavey chipped in with an RBI single. There really weren't any defensive plays, this game was all offense for both sides. Mattern 4 Homecraft 1 - Mattern and Associates, Sean Sarbaugh pitched 5 1/3 solid innings allowing only 1 run on 2 hits and struck out 9 as he led his team to a 4-1 Victory over Homecraft. Michael Schell led Mattern’s offense with 2 hits followed by Sean Sarbaugh who hit another homerun to bring his total to 9 for the season. Scott Davis and Zack Plasmier also picked up hits for Mattern. For Homecraft, Jim Connolly and Brannon McHugh combined for a solid pitching effort holding Mattern’s powerful line-up to just 5 hits on the night. Offensively, Trevor McCormick and Evan Cassidy each had a hit for Homecraft. Mattern 8 Pepperidge 2 - Mattern and Associates Michael Schell pitched 5 2/3 strong innings, allowing only 2 runs on 7 hits as he led his team to an 8-2 victory over Pepperidge Farm Tuesday night at Heeney. Mattern’s offense was led by Sean Sarbaugh who had 3 hits on the night, including his 8th homerun of the season. Michael Schell and Kyle Green followed his lead with 2 hits each and Scott Davis, Richie Windon, Sam Mattern, Alex Schwartz, Ian Lloyd and Sean Green each picked up hits as well. For Pepperidge, Danny Depaulo led the charge with 2 hits followed by Ben Crain, Graham Haines, Patrick King, JJ Connolly and Patrick Hoffmann who each had hits as well. Pepperidge’s Matt Fanelli also made a nice catch in right field to rob Zack Plasmier of an extra base hit in the 2nd inning. With tonight’s win, Mattern and Associates clinches 1st place in the regular season and a 1st round seed in the playoffs. Pepperidge Farms 19 Horizon 3 - Patrick King hit 3 home runs, drove in 7 runs and registered his 3rd victory on the mound to lead Pepperidge Farms to a 19-3 win over Horizon. J.J. Connolly had 4 hits including 2 home runs and Graham Haines and Patrick Hoffman each added 2 hits for Pepperidge Farms. Robbie Needs broke up the combined no-hitter of King and Haines with a single in the 5th. Pepperidge Farms 16 Homecraft 6 - Matty Lynch and Danny DePaulo each had 3 hits and J.J Connolly added a home run and a double to lead Pepperidge Farms to a 16-6 win over Homecraft. Patrick King picked up the win by striking out 5 and scattering 7 hits over 5+ innings. Patrick Hoffman and King each added to hits to the offense. Homecraft was led by the 3 hit performance of Trevor McCormick. Hypoint 7 Homecraft 4 - Hypoint got off to a good start, with a single by Thomas Diamanty, and then reached second on a pass ball. John Harris followed with a single to right, and DJ Thommes threw a strike home to cut down the run. Peter Smith then hit an RBI single. Hypoint scratched out a run in the top of the second after a double by Austin Rafetto(2H,2BB,1RBI,1R). Homecraft came back with 3 in the second powered by a double by DJ Thommes, and a double by Lawrence Walsh that looked like it had a chance to go out. With the score tied 3-3, Hypoint got a run on a single by Kevin LaPlante, and an RBI single by Thomas Diamanty scoring Tommy Steiner. Homecraft followed suit in the bottom of the inning after a single by DJ Thommes(2H,1RBI,2R), who later scored. With the game tied in the 6th, Thomas Diamanty(3H,1RBI,1R) got a single, followed by a laser double by John Harris(2H,1RBI,3R), knocking in the go ahead run. Hypoint scored 3 runs to take a 7-4 lead. John Harris made a nice play on a ball up the middle to close out the game. Trevor McCormick and Jimmy Connolly also chipped in with hits for Homecraft. Hypoint's Patrick Crowley pitched 4 innings, only giving up 4 hits, and Kevin LaPlante pitched 2 scoreless and hitless innings. Walker Wiley and Evan Cassidy pitched very effectively for 3 inning a piece. Mattern 7 Mills 1 - Mattern and Associates and Mills Excavating faced off Saturday in a battle for first place in the majors division. Mattern’s Sean Sarbaugh led his team to victory by pitching a complete game, striking out 10 and allowing only 1 run on 3 hits. Sarbaugh also helped his cause by hitting a towering opposite field homerun that landed at the batting cage. Mills pitcher Drew Bechtold had a solid day on the mound as well pitching 4 ½ solid innings and allowing only 2 runs on 5 hits. Mattern’s offense was led by Chris Clark (double, single), Michael Schell (2 singles), and Kyle Green (double, single). Scott Davis, Sean Sarbaugh, Sam Mattern and Richie Windon each added hits as well to round out the Mattern offense. For Mills, Max Carney laid a perfect bunt down the 3rd base line for a base hit and Morgan Johnson and Luke Bianchino each picked up hits as well. The game produced 2 “Web Gems” as Mattern’s Kyle Green made an outstanding catch on the run in right to save an extra base hit in the 2nd inning and Mills Max Carney made an absolute circus catch tracking down a fly ball into shallow left from his shortstop position. Both teams deserve a hand for playing their hearts out in this one and for giving 100% through 6 solid innings of baseball. Hypoint 6 Pepperidge 5 - This was a tight game from start to finish. The starting pitchers, Austin Rafetto (Hypoint) and JJ Connolly (Pepperidge) were very effective. After Pepperidge got a run in the first, Kevin LaPlante led off with a double, and later scored. In the second, Hypoint got 2 more on a double by Kevin LaPlante scoring Austin Rafetto and Brendan Pie. JJ Connolly (2 runs) homered in the 3rd to make it a 3-2 game. Pepperidge took the lead (5-3) in the top of the 5th, with singles by Graham Haines (2H,1R), Patrick King, and Patrick Hoffman. Hypoint came right back in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 5. Peter Smith doubled to score John Harris. Austin Rafetto and Tommy Steiner also singled. Kevin LaPlante shut down Pepperidge in the 6th, 1-2-3. Hypoint got a single by Thomas Diamanty (2H,1R), and then Peter Smith(3-3, 2 doubles,1R, 2RBI) hit a game winning, walk off single. Hypoint 6 Horizon 1 -Hypoint's pitching tandem of Austin Rafetto (1 2/3) and Patrick Crowley (4 1/3) was too much for Horizon to handle. They held Horizon to 2 hits. Austin has 2 strikeouts, and Patrick had 8. Hypoint got off to a quick 2-1 lead in the 1st. Hypoint broke the game open when Peter Smith (1 run) singled to knocked in Thomas Diamanty (2 runs), and Tommy Steiner had a 2 run single to score John Harris (2 runs) and Brendan Pie. Tommy Larson and Austin Rafetto also had hits. Ethan Ivans pitched very well for Horizon, and also had a single. Zach Wilbank chipped in with a hit also. Mascelli 14 Homecraft 5 - Sean Deely led Mascelli's going 4 for 4 with 6 rbi's including a double and two home runs. Tim Parks went 3 for 3 with 2 rbi's including a double. Sean Deely (4 inn) and Jimmy Pierce (2 inn) combined for the pitching victory. Ryan Driscoll, Jimmy Pierce, Jack Hagood and Chris Deely each added two hits for Mascelli. Davis Jones, Trevor McCormick, Brannan McHugh, Walker Wiley, Jim Connolly and Austin Coughenor had base hits for Homecraft. Mattern 11 Mascelli 7 - Mattern and Associates and Mascelli Financial faced off for the 3rd time this season in a well fought game by both clubs. Mattern secured the win behind the big bat of Sammy Mattern who had 3 hits and 8 RBI's including a grand slam in the top of the 2nd and a solo shot in the 5th. Scott Davis, Sean Sarbaugh and Michael Schell each had 2 hits while Chris Clark, Ian Lloyd and Henry Gise each added a hit to round out the Mattern offense. For Mascelli, Jason Durnan led the way with 3 hits while Chris Deely added 2 hits and Sean Deely, Jimmy Pierce and Jack Hagood chipped in for hits as well. Mills Excavating 18 Horizon Services 3 - Connor Pierce lead the Mills Offense going 3 for 3 with two doubles and 2 Runs scored, while Max Carney 3Hits/3Runs, Drew Bechtold 2Hits/2Runs and Christian Conaty 2Hits/3Runs kept Mills rolling. Shayne Linkhorst and Nick Robino chipped in with a Hit apiece. For Horizon; Kevin Reardon's blast off the fence in leftfield,a bases clearing Double,knotted the score at 3 in the second. Brett Leichtman, Jimmy Rook and Ethan Ivins each had Hits. Mascelli 16 Pepperidge 2 - Jimmy Pierce pitched five solid innings allowing only two runs and four hits with only three walks. Pierce helped his own cause banging out two home runs, a double and 6 rbi's. Tim Parks went 4 for 5 with 4 rbi's including a double and a home run and Jason Durnan added three hits including a double. Sean and Chris Deely each had two hits and Tim Rickert, Dominic Gallo and Jack Hagood each chipped in with a base hit. Patrick King, Matty Lynch, Noah Anderson and Matt Fannelli each had hits for Pepperidge. Mattern 19 Hypoint 1 -Last night Mattern moved to 12-1 on the season with a 19-1 over Hypoint Dairy. Mattern pitchers limited the opposition to just two hits over 6 frames of baseball. Mattern also struck for 12 hits highlighted by Ritchie Windon’s 3 hit evening while Kyle Green, Sean Sarbaugh, and Scotty Davis chipped in 2 as well. Michael Schell added to his homerun total with a 3 run shot in the second inning. Hypoint was highlighted by a 3rd inning double by Kevin LaPlante and a 5th inning single by J.P. Sawyer. Mills Excavating 9 Homecraft 0 - Tyler Signora of Mills Excavating pitched a 2 Hit shutout while striking out 5. Tyler was in command from the first to the last pitch. Christian Conaty powered the Mills Offense with his Second Home Run of the season, a three run blast to left. Joseph Stockburger(2B), Max Carney(2B) and Drew Bechtold had two Hits each, while Tyler Signora, Shayne Linkhorst and Connor Pierce had on Hit apiece. Davis Jones and Will Connolly had Hits for Homecraft. For Mascelli; Timmy Parks had two hits, while Jason Durnan and Sean Deely smoked Home Runs. Jack Hagood, Jimmy Pierce and Jack Ruello also had Hits. Homecraft 16 Horizon 7 -Davis Jones pitched 4 strong innings and went 3-4 from the plate with 3 runs scored to lead Homecraft to a 16-7 victory over Horizon. Mattern 23 Pepperidge 5 -Mattern and Associates offense exploded for 26 hits as they topped Pepperidge Saturday night at Heeney. Matterns offense was led by Sean Sarbaugh (6 for 6, 3 doubles, 3 singles), Michael Schell (5 for 6, 3 singles, double, HR), Kyle Green (4 for 5, 3 singles, HR) and Richie Windon who hit a 3 run shot to center for his 1st homerun in the majors. For Pepperidge, Graham Haines and JJ Connelly each had 2 hits and Matty Lynch, Danny Depaulo and Aaron Klein each chipped in for hits as well. Scott Davis (3 singles), Sam Mattern (HR, double, single) and Sean Sarbaugh (2 HR’s, single) had 3 hits a piece to lead the way. Sean Green had 2 hits and Michael Schell, Kyle Green, Richie Windon, Ian Lloyd, Henry Gise, Zack Plasmier and Alex Schwartz each chipped in for hits as well. Michael Schell turned in the “web gem” of the game as he made a diving stab to stop a hard hit shot up the middle and somehow still managed to reach out and tag 2nd for the put out. Pepperidge Farms 12 Horizon 7 - J.J Connolly struck out 11 and scattered 5 hits to lead Pepperidge Farms to a 12-7 win over Horizon. Connolly also hit 2 home runs to pace the offense for Pepperidge. Matty Lynch hit the first major league home run of his career and was 3 for 3 at the plate and Patrick King and Patrick Hoffman chipped in with two hits each for Pepperidge Farms. Zach Zinner had two hits for Horizon. Mills Excavating 8 Hypoint 7 - Kevin Fallers walk-off single in the bottom of the 8th inning gave Mills an exciting come from behind victory. Mills rallied from a 5 – 0 deficit, tying the game on a two run double by Drew Bechtold ( 4 hits, 3 rbi), followed by a two run home run by Tyler Signora (6th of the season) in the 4th inning. Hypoint came right back in the 5th with two runs driven in on a Patrick Crowley hit. Mills tied it up again in the bottom of the 6th, when Bechtold drove in a run with a triple and scored on a passed ball. Signora (4 innings, 0 earned runs) shut down Hypoint the rest of the way to get the victory. Christian Conaty and Max Carney added 2 hits each and Nick Robino and Morgan Johnson had one hit each. For Hypoint, Kevin LaPlante had 3 hits and Thomas Diamanty, John Harris, Peter Smith, Tommy Larson and Austin Rafetto each had a hit. Mattern 7 Homecraft 3 (7 inn) - Mattern’s, Sean Sarbaugh allowed just 3 hits and struck out 11 in 5 1/3 innings of work as he led his team to a 7-3 extra inning victory Saturday morning at Heeney. Jim Connolly took the mound for Homecraft and had an outstanding day as well also allowing only 3 hits as both teams managed to scratch out just 3 runs a piece in regulation play. Mattern’s bats awoke in the top of the 7th as they scored 4 runs to take the lead and the secure the victory. Mattern’s offense was led by Sean Sarbaugh (2 singles) Kyle Green (2 singles), Richie Windon (triple) and Sam Mattern who hit a 3 run homer in the top of the 7th that still may not of come down yet. Mascelli 14 Horizon 6 - Mascelli's Jimmy Pierce had a banner day going 5 for 5 with two doubles, a two run homer and 7 rbi's to pace the offense. Mills Excavating 19 Mattern & Associates 7 - Mills pitcher Drew Bechtold scattered 4 Hits, 5 K's, while only allowing 2 runs through 5 innings of work. Mills' bats came alive, five Mills' batters went yard. Nick Robino, Morgan Johnson and Christian Conaty each picked up their first home run of the season, while Tyler Signora picked up his 5th and Shayne Linkhorst his 6th of the season. Conaty's Home Run was a Grand Slam into the trees in Left; giving him a total of 6 Rbi's, 3 Hits and 4 Runs for the evening. Luke Bianchino and Michael Bectold chipped in with a hit apiece. Hypoint 6 Homecraft 5 - Homecraft started fast, scoring 2 runs in 1st and 2nd innings to take a 4-0 lead. Walker Wiley pitched fantastic for 4 1/3 innings, but ran out of pitches, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits. Hypoint scored 2 in the 4th when Peter Smith hit a rocket to left for a double, and Austin Rafetto had a single. Homecraft scored 1 in the 5th to make it 5-2. Hypoint came back in the 5th, John Harris doubled to deep left, followed by an RBI double by Tommy Larson. With 2 outs, Thomas Diamanty hit a line shot base hit to center to tie the game at 5 after 5. Kevin LaPlante(2H,1R) led off the 6th with a base hit to right, and Peter Smith(2H,2R,1RBI) hit a walk off game winning single. Hypoint 10 Horizon 0 -Austin Rafetto, Patrick Crowley, Peter Smith and Brady Friedkin combined for 11 strikeouts and rendered only 6 hits as Hypoint moved back to .500 in a 10-0 win over Horizon on a cold Saturday morning. Hypoint got a quick run in the 1st after Kevin LaPlante (2H,2R) scored following a game opening single. In the second, the bats started moving as John Harris broke it open with a two run homerun, his second of the year. Tommy Larson (2H,2R), Austin Rafetto, and Patrick Crowley added singles that inning while Kevin LaPlante came within a few feet of getting his 1st HR of the year, resulting in a double. Horizon hung very tough, limiting Hypoint to only 3 runs after the 2nd inning. JP Sawyer and Peter Smith had 2 hits for Hypoint. Zack Wilbank threw 4 strong innings for Horizon and had a 2 hit of his own. Jimmy Rook also threw 2 strong innings for Horizon. Evan Needs, Robby Needs, and Kevin Reardon each had a hit. Kevin Reardon provided the Web Gem of the day with a diving stop of a Danny McFadden rocket in the hole at second base. Mascelli 17 Homecraft 12 - Mascelli jumped out to a 10-1 first inning lead with the key blow coming on a Sean Deely grand slam home run. Deely had three hits on the night with 6 rbi's. Jason Durnan went 3 for 4 including a double and 4 runs scored. Jack Hagood and Jimmy Pierce had two hits apiece for Mascelli. Davis Jones, James Connolly, Brannan McHugh and Walker Wiley had two hits each for Homecraft. Pepperidge Farms 7 Homecraft 6 - Ben Zinner knocked in the game winning RBI with a basis loaded walk as Pepperidge Farms came from behind to defeat Homecraft 7-6. Mills Excavating 7 Horizon Services 3 - Horizon Services jumped out to an early 3-1 lead but Mills' Drew Bechtold, Pitching in relief, shut the Door, striking out 10 Horizon batters. Drew didn't allow a run, while giving up only 2 hits through the 5 2/3 innings he pitched. After Drew ran out of pitches, Michael Bechtold came in to finish out the 6th and record the save. The Mills 5th inning rally was sparked by Joseph Stockburger's Triple off the rightfield fence. Christian Conaty double to Left to knot the game at 3-3. Drew Bechtold moved Conaty to third on a single. Tyler Signor followed with his third Home Run and twelfth RBI in the last two games, plating Conaty and Bechtol, putting Mills ahead 6-3. Shayne Linkhorst doubled to score Signora. Max Carney chipped in with 2Hits and a Run. Horizon was lead on the hill by Pitcher Doug Ryan. Ryan mixed up his pitches like a pro, while only allowing 4Hits and 2 Mills' runs through the first four innings. Matthew Olsen reached base on three out of his four plate appearances while Brett Leichtman and Doug Ryan each had hits. Mattern 12 Mascelli 2 - Mattern’s, Sean Sarbaugh and Mascelli’s, Sean Deely faced off in a classic pitchers duel for the first half of Wednesday’s match-up at Heeney. Sean Sarbaugh had a perfect night on the mound pitching 5 1/3 innings, allowing no hits and striking out 13. Sean Deely went 3 innings, allowed no hits and struck out 7. Mattern’s offense broke out in the late in the game scoring 8 in the 4th and 5 more in the 5th led once again by Sam Mattern who was 3 for 3 on the night with 2 homeruns and a double. Henry Gise and Scott Davis each had 2 hits as did Michael Schell who also hit his 2nd homerun of the season. Ian Lloyd, Kyle Green and Sean Sarbaugh each had a hit as well. Sean Deely tried to start a rally for Mascelli in the top of the 6th when he hit a 2 run homer but Sam Mattern shut the door in relief to secure the win for Mattern. Mascelli 16 Pepperidge 9 - Sean Deely went 4 for 4 with 2 doubles, a home run and 4 rbi's to lead Mascelli past Pepperidge 16-9. Jack Hagood went 3 for 4 with a double, Josh Nachlis 2 for 2 and Jimmy Pierce 2 for 4 with a double, home run and 3 rbi's. Mills Excavating 19 Homecraft,Inc. 3 - Mills Excavating's Tyler Signora had a game for the record books. Tyler went 4 for 5 at the the plate, 2 Home Runs, 2 Doubles and "8" RBI's!! Tyler was equally impressive on the mound pitching 4 innings striking out 4, while not allowing an earn run. Michael Bechtold pitched in relief, shut the door on a late Homecraft rally. Also for Mills; Shayne Linkhorst had 3 Hits including a Triple and his 4th Home Run of the Season. Mattern 18 Hypoint 11 - Mattern and Associates topped Hypoint 18 to 11 in an offensive battle Saturday afternoon at Heeney Field. Mattern’s offense was led by Sam Mattern who went 5 for 5 (2 singles, 2 doubles, and a triple), Ian Lloyd (3 singles), Sean Sarbaugh (double, HR), Richie Windon (single, triple) and Scott Davis who hit his 1st homerun in the majors. Alex Schwartz, Zack Plasmier, Henry Gise, Chris Clark, and Sean Green also added hits for Mattern. For Hypoint, Peter Smith led the way with a 2 run inside the park homerun in the 1st inning. Kevin LaPlante had 2 hits for Hypoint followed by Thomas Diamanty, Tommy Larson, Austin Rafetto, Danny McFadden, Patrick Crowley and Brendan Pie who each added hits as well. Brendan’s was his first in the majors. The “web gem” of the game happened in the 3rd when Mattern’s Zack Plasmier hit a towering shot to left that looked like it may have the juice to get out of the park but JP Sawyer camped out at the fence and made a great catch to end the inning. Hypoint 2 Mascelli 0 - It was an old fashion pitcher's duel, in a game where there were no extra base hits. Patrick Crowley pitched a complete game, shutting out the high powered offense of Mascelli. It was a total team effort by Hypoint with the defense supporting Patrick's great pitching performance. Peter Smith and Tommy Larson made nice plays tracking down balls in the outfield to help preserve the shutout. John Harris blocked and smothered any errant pitches, and did not allow a single runner to advance. Hypoint scratched out 2 runs in the first, and that was all the scoring in the game. Sean Deely pitched 4 strong innings with 9 strike outs, and Jason Durnan pitched a scoreless 5th. Mascelli did not give up, with runners at 1st and 2nd in the 6th, a single was hit to Tommy Larson(LF), who threw behind the runner at 3rd base to pick off the runner rounding 3rd base. Another single loaded the bases, but Patrick Crowley had just enough pitches to close out the next 2 batters for the game. Timmy Parks led Mascelli with 2 hits. Jack Hagood, Sean Deeley, Jimmy Pierce, and Jack Ruello had hits. Hypoint's John Harris had 2 hits, and Kevin LaPlante and Peter Smith each had a hit. Mattern 11 Pepperidge 5 - Mattern and Associates jumped out 3-0 in the first inning and held the lead as both teams struggled at the plate vs excellent pitching from JJ Connelly and Michael Schell. Pepperidge threatened in the 3rd inning with men on 1st and 2nd as Graham Haines hit a hard liner to 3rd but was cut short as Richie Windon and Zack Plasmier turned a 5-4 double play to hold them in check. Pepperidge fought back again in the 4th scoring 2 on a solo homerun from JJ Connelly and an RBI double from Danny Depaulo. Mattern responded in the bottom of the 4th scoring 6 runs on hits from Scott Davis, Michael Schell, Sam Mattern, Kyle Green Zack Plasmier and Richie Windon. Pepperidge made a final effort in the top of the 6th as they scored 2 more runs and it looked like they may add a few more as Matty Lynch hammered a fastball to center but Scott Davis made a spectaular catch on the run to end the inning and the game. Ian Lloyd and Sean Sarbaugh also had hits for Matt ern. Pepperidge's Patrick King, Ben Crain, Ben Zinner, Graham Haines and Patrick Hoffman each had a hit as well. Homecraft 12 Horizon 10 -In an extra inning thriller, Homecraft squeezed out a victory over a gutsy Horizon team with 2 runs in the top of the 7th. Homecraft came out swinging to start the game, scoring 9 runs in the first three innings and carried a 9 - 0 lead into the 5th when Horizon came back with a vengeance scoring 9 runs on six straight hits, to tie the game. Homecraft scored one in the 6th and threatened to open up the scoring when Evan Needs made a brilliant diving catch in left center field on a shot hit by Trevor McCormick to end the inning. In the bottom of the 6th, Horizon loaded the bases and with two outs and Robbie Needs roped a single to right field; Matty Olson came around to score, but a strike from cut off man Walker Wiley to catcher Will Connolly nailed Evan Needs at home for the third out and keeping the game tied at 10-10. In the top of the 7th, Davis Jones lead off with a double and was knocked in on a single to right by Austin Coughenour, who was then driven home on a single up the middle by Evan Cassidy to put Homecraft up 12 - 10 for good. Davis Jones, Brannon McHugh, Jimmy Connolly and Walker Wiley each had three hits for Homecraft. Brett Leichtman, Tommy Welsh, Jimmy Rook, Kevin Reardon, Doug Ryan, Zach Wilbank, Ethan Ivans, and Zach Zinner all had hits for Horizon. Mills Excavating 8 Hypoint Dairy 3 (7 Innings) - Mills Excavating's Max Carney and Hypoint Dairy's Austin Rafetto had a classic pitchers dual going through four plus innings. Lucky for Mills, Hypoint's Rafetto had to be replaced in the 5th due to the Little League pitch count rule. Hypoint however wasn't as lucky. Max Carney pitched into the 7th inning before he ran out of pitches. Carney scattered 6 Hits while allowing only 3 runs in the 6 2/3 innings. The Mills Offense was lead by Shayne Linkhorst who hit his third Home Run in his last four games. Mills also received key hits from Kevin Fallers (2B, 2Hits), Tyler Signora (2B,2Hits), Drew Bechtold (2Hits) and Morgan Johnson. Hypoint was lead by Peter Smith with 2Hits, while Danny McFadden, Jon Harris, Patrick Crowley and Thomas Diamanty had one hit apiece. The games ESPN "WEB GEM" was turned in by Mills Excavating's Luke Bianchino. The Mills Third baseman went back behind third base to make a diving catch. Bianchino's outstanding play at third anchored the Mills defense. Mattern 10 Homecraft 5 -Sam Mattern struck out 6 and allowed only six hits in five innings of work as Mattern topped Homecraft 10-5. Matterns offense was a true team effort as they scattered 13 hits on the day from 8 different players. Michael Schell had 3 hits. Sam Mattern, Sean Sarbaugh and Chris Clark each had 2 hits and each hit a homerun. Zack Plasmier also had 2 hits and Scott Davis, Richie Windon and Ian Lloyd each picked up hits as well. For Homecraft, Evan Cassidy and Jim Connolly combined for a solid pitching effort. Homecraft's offensive highlight of the day came in the 5th as Evan Cassidy went yard to left center and Brannon McHugh followed him with a towering homerun shot that landed on the roof of Pier 1. Ben Zinner collected his first major league with a 2 run single in the 6th. Mascelli 8 Mills 5 - Trailing 5-4 in the bottom of the 4th inning, Jack Ruello delivered a bases loaded two run double that proved to be the game winner and put Mascelli ahead 6-5. They tacked on two more runs in the inning and hung on to defeat Mills 8-5. Mills opened the scoring as Drew Bechtold doubled and Max Carney singled. Mascelli answered with 4 runs in the bottom of the first inning on Tim Parks' two run homer and Chris Deely's two run double. Mills recaptured the lead 5-4 on Shayne Linkhorst's grand slam homer in the third. Jason Durnan pitched the final three innings for Mascelli shutting down Mills allowing no runs and just one hit. Jimmy Piere had two hits including a double and Jack Hagood added two hits for Mascelli. Homecraft 11 Hypoint 5 - Homecraft gets their first win by managing 15 hits against tough pitching from Hypoint. Homecraft's Walker Wiley pitched a gem striking out 11 in 4 & 2/3 innings, and Jimmy Connolly led the way offensively going 4 for 4 with 3 doubles. Brannon McHugh added 3 hits, Davis Jones and Trevor McCormick each had 2 hits, and Quinn Cassidy, Evan Cassidy, Will Connolly and Walker Wiley each added a hit. For Pepperidge, Ben Crain led off with a double and scored. JJ Connolly hit a bases loaded clearing triple (3RBI). Patrick King and Patrick Hoffman each added a hit. The defensive play of the game was in the first inning with bases loaded, and 1 out, Tommy Larson caught a fly ball in left field. The runners were tagging up, and Tommy threw a laser to the cut-off man (Patrick Crowley). Patrick made an excellent decision to cut the ball and throw to third, where Danny McFadden tug out the runner trying to advance. Pepperidge Farms 5 Homecraft 4 -Patrick Hoffman notched his first win and drove in the winning runs in the top of the 6th as Pepperdige Farms defeated Homecraft 5-4. Patrick King hit his first major league home run and picked up the save by pitching a scoreless 6th. Davis Jones, Trevor McCormick and Evan Cassidy had two s each for Homecraft. Mills 9 Horizon 4 -Horizon Services opened their inaugural season in the Major Division in fine fashion by scoring in the top of the first. Matthew Olsen's first inning hit and run, and RBI off the bat of Tommy Welch, will all be recorded as the "first" in the Horizon Ball clubs' history. Jimmy Rook lead the Horizon offense with 2 Hits. Matthew Olsen, Zach Zinner, Tommy Welsh and Doug Ryan all had one hit apiece. Horizon starter Ethan Ivins, relivers Zach Wilbank and Zach Zinner, all pitched very effectively, keeping the Mills batters guessing. For Mills; Tyler Signora (2B, 2Runs), Max Carney (2Runs) and Christian Conaty, all had 2 hits apiece. Drew Bechtold, Morgan Johnson and Kevin Fallers all chipped in with a hit. For Kevin Fallers, it was his first hit in the Major Division. The "WEB GEM" of the game was actually "2 Web Gems" turned in by Horizon Third Basemen Jimmy Rook. Two flat out diving plays to his left robbed Mills batters of line drive hits. Mattern 15 Horizon 1 -Congratulations to Henry Gise who got his 1st hit in the majors as Mattern topped Horizon Thursday on a beautiful spring night at Heeney field. Matterns offense was a group effort as 8 different players had hits on the night. Matt Olson, Zack Zinner, Kevin Reardon, Jimmy Rook, and Luke Digiovanni all had hits for Horizon. Mattern 5 Mascelli 2 - Excellent pitching was the story of the night as Mattern and Associates came out on top over Mascelli Financial 5-2. Sean Sarbaugh took the mound for Mattern pitching 5 1/3 innings allowing only 4 hits and 2 runs from a powerful Mascelli line-up. Sean Deely, Jason Durnan, Jack Hagood and Jimmy Pierce all turned in solid pitching performances for Mascelli combining for 11 K's and allowing only 6 hits. Mattern's offense was led by Scott Davis (2/4) who tripled in the 2nd to put Mattern in the lead, Sean Sarbaugh (2/2, 2 singles), Michael Schell (1/4, double) and Sam Mattern (1/3) who crushed a 3 run homer in the 4th that put the game out of reach. For Mascelli, Timmy Parks led the way going 2/3 with 2 singles. Sean Deely and Jack Hagood also added hits for Mascelli. Mattern 9 Hypoint 4 - Mattern & Associates won the season opener over HyPoint scoring 9 runs on 12 hits. Mattern's offense was led by Micheal Schell (4/4), Sean Sarbaugh (3/3, walk), Sam Mattern (2/3,HR), and Kyle Green 2/2, walk) Schell, Mattern and Sarbaugh also combined for the win with solid pitching over a tough HyPoint team. For Hypoint, Austin Rafetto and Patrick Crowley turned in solid pitching perfromances. Kevin Laplante, Peter Smith and Tommy Larson each added hits for Hypoint. Mascelli 20 Pepperidge 6 - Jason Durnan, Sean Deely, Jack Hagood and Chris Deely each had four hits and Tim Parks had three hits to lead Mascelli to its opening day win. Sean Deely blasted two home runs. Tim Parks and Jack Hagood added home runs as well. Graham Haines and Patrick King had three hits apiece for Pepperidge. Mills 3 Homecraft 2 - Mills Excavating and Homecraft Inc. played in the leagues traditional season opener that matches the two teams that played in the previous seasons final. Mills and Homecraft were locked in a pitchers dual through the first few innings. Mills' Shayne Linkhorst and Michael Bechtold combined for four scoreless innings while holding Homecraft to one hit. Drew Bechtold (2B,2hits),Tyler Signora (2B), Max Carney, Christian Conaty and Nick Robino powered the Mills offense. Homecraft received outstanding pitching from Evan Cassidy and Walker Wiley. Davis Jones and Trevor McCormick each had a hit. AAA Woodlawn Devil Rays 14 Friendly Gift Shop Astros 6 - The Rays and Astros tangled for last time in the regular season with both teams tuning up for a potential playoff run. The Rays opened up the scoring in the top of the first scoring two runs with nice hits by Christian "Whose Your Daddy" Diamanty and bomb hit by John "Little Big Man" Andreoli. The Astros battled back in the subsequent innings with a nice hit by Matt Gallagher. After some fine pitching by both teams, the Rays re-opened the scoring with home runs by Thomas "Hit Man" Connelly and Aubrey "Say Hey" Kingston. The Astros showed patience at the plate and scored additonal runs with a keen eye and a bases loaded walk by Matt Gallagher. These two teams have real potential for a long playoff run!" YCST Angels 8 Woodlawn Landscaping Rays 7 - The Angels and Rays got together for the third time this season on Tuesday night with the YCST Angels getting the win 8-7. For the Angels, Jeffrey Grantham pitched three solid innings to start the game and Nick Rossi came in with some heat in the fourth and allowed only 1 base runner on a walk and finished the game with 7 strikeouts. The Angels offense was led by an inside the park home run from Mason Elliott, 2 singles each from Josh Pearsall and Jeffrey Grantham, and a smashing double from Chris Carlson. Jeremy Kuzo and Nick Rossi also added 1 hit and 1 run scored each for the Angels. Michael Taylor came up with the defensive play of the year for an Angels by snagging a fly ball to right field for the last out of the fourth inning. The Rays offense was led by Christian Diammanty (2-3, 2B,1B), John Andreoli (2 singles), Evan Oconnor (2 singles), and 1 hit and 1 run scored each from Aubrey Kingston, Tom Connolly, and Randy Frank. Tom Connolly started the game on the mound for the Rays and pitched very well. Randy Frank and Aubrey Kingston came on and pitched great in relief roles for the Rays. This game was another great battle that came down to the last inning tied 7-7 and the Angels were able to get a run across in the bottom of the sixth for the win. Another great close game by both teams!!!!! Woodlawn Rays 13 Homecraft Tigers 10 - The Rays and Tigers tangled on a beautiful night for a baseball game at Ann Squires field on May 30. The game was marked by another solid pitching performance from Chris Kimmel who cruised through the first 2 innings with 5K. The Tigers matched that effort with fine defense including a 6-3 double play. The game remained scoreless after two innings until the Rays offense struck like lightening in the top of the third. The Rays had five hits and five runs in the inning with singles from "Dental Floss" Silverman, "Whose Your Daddy" Diamanty, "Say Hey" Kingston and Chris Kimmel. The inning included a keen eye at the plate with walks drawn by Mike "Spitter" Spitaleri and Evan "Sticks" O'Connor and a triple rocked by Thomas "Hit Man" Connelly (2-4, 2 RBI). The Tigers stormed right back with five runs of their own with a sharp eye at the plate and a double from Tim Bouchard and a single from Owen Linkhorst. The Rays then returned to the plate doing some additonal damage with four more runs with a single from John "Little big man" Andreoli and a triple from Aubrey Kingston (2-4, 4 RBI). The Tigers continued to battle with runs in the 4th and 5th against a fine middle relief pitching performance by Sam "The Man" Barrett making the game 10-7 going into the bottom of the 6th inning. The Tigers battled to tie the game with three runs in the bottom of the 6th highlighted by singles from Linkhorst and Austin Hernandez and a big time double down the right field line delivered in the clutch by Matt Hogan. As the game moved in extra frames, the Never Say Die Rays put up a three spot with doubles by Diamanty, Connelly, and Sam "The Man" Barrett and a single off the bat of Randy "Hot Dog" Frank who has returned to form after a short slump. Diamanty looked 7 feet tall as he strode confidently to the mound in the bottom of the 7th to the face the big bats off the Tigers. Diamanty t hrew pressure packed strikes against the backdrop of solid Rays defense as the Rays were happy to escape with a 13-10 win. Friendly Gift Shop Astros 11 YCST Angels 5 - The Astros and Angels played another exciting, close game to end their regular season series. The Angels held a slim 5-3 lead going into the bottom of the sixth inning. The determined Angels battled back to tie it on a clutch two run double by Chris Carlson. A key heads-up defensive play by Ryan Gallagher and Ian Porter enabled the game to go into extra innings. The Astros' bats came alive for six runs in the inning while Matthew Gallagher shut down the Angels in bottom of the inning to pick up the win by a score of 11-5. Angels highlights included Carlson's hitting (2-2, 2B, 2 RBI), while Mason Elliott and Noah Rivera added a hit and RBI each, and Mike Ruello also singled. Rivera came up with a sliding, hit stealing catch in center and contributed three innings of effective pitching (5K). Starter Jeff Grantham and reliever Jeremy Kuzo also turned in good pitching efforts. The Astros offense exploded for 20 base hits. Players with multiple base hits included Nick Wanner (3-4, inside park HR, 3B, 1 RBI), Jake Mottola (2-4, 1 RBI, threw out runner at 2B as C), Jared Diamicis (3-4, 1 RBI), Matt Gallagher (3-4, 3B, 2B), Mike Minnick (3-3, 1 RBI), and Ryan Gallagher (2-4, 2B, 3 RBI). Starting pitcher Andrew Conces (7K) pitched well into the fourth inning while Porter contributed an inning of solid middle relief before Matt Gallagher pitched three innings to finish off the game. Homecraft Tigers 7 YCST Angels 2 - The Tigers and Angels met on Saturday afternoon on a beautiful day for baseball. Carl Ramsey (6K's) took the mound to start the game for the Tigers retiring the first three batters he faced. During the Tigers first at bat, Pearsall was able to retire the Tigers first two batters, then the Tigers scored with two outs on runs by Quinney, Borda and Ramsey. The Angel fought back with two runs of their own with Rivera and Elliout passing the plate. Tigers 3 and the Angels 2 after two. Nick Rossi (7K's) came in for the Angels and held the Tigers scoreless through three. A lead off bunt by Ricky Quinney in the 4th inning started the Tigers off on a 4 run inning to put the lead at Tigers 7, Angels 2. Tim Bouchard (6K's) came on in the 4th inning for the Tigers to hold the Angels scoreless for the remainder of the game, with the final score Tigers 7, YCST 2. Hartnett 14 Woodlawn 6 - On a hot Tuesday night the Hartnett Cubs faced off against the Woodlawn Rays. The Cubs brought their hitting sticks on this night, starting out in the first inning by putting up five runs on five hits. Two of the five hits were doubles by Nic Maloney (1-1, 3 walks) and Matthew Schell (3-3, 2 doubles). The Cubs starting pitcher, Jakob Thomas (8k's and a single), held the Rays to 4 runs over three innings pitched. The Rays put up their four runs on Thomas in the third inning by taking advantage of two missed opportunities for outs by the Cubs infield. The Rays looked like they were going to rally in the fifth inning after a Noah Haines (2-3) double to left field which scored two runs, but the catch of the night by left fielder Daniel Bondi halted the rally by leaving two men on base. The Cubs helped out their reliever, Shaun Frazier (5ks), by driving in some late insurance runs on hits by Chris Durgin, Ryan Ifkovits and three sacrifices by the "RBI Guy" Evan Martinez. The Rays were paced by hits by Evan Connor, Thomas Connoly and the keen eye of Caroline Silverman who drew three walks on the night. Homecraft Tigers 6 Friendly Gift Astros 5 - The Tigers and Astros met for what proved to be a nail bitter with the game coming down to the Tigers last at bat. Nick Wanner started the game reaching first base then scoring on a fielders choice. Strong pitching by Owen Linkhorst and solid defence by the Tigers held the Astros to one run. The Tigers got started in their first with two runs on RBI's by Carl Ramsey and Luke Borda, scoring Austin Hernandez and Tim Bouchard. Ian Porter and Matt Gallagher led off the second with both reaching base and eventually scoring, followed by two more runs by Jake Motolla and Yianni Eleuthriou, with the Astros exploding for 4 runs and taking a aommanding lead 5 - 2 after two. Strong pitching by Andrew Conces and Linkhorst held both teams scoreless in the third. In relief Austin Hernandez was able to throw 6 strikouts to hold the Astros scoreless for the remainder of the game, while the Tiger exploded for three runs in the fourth inning to tie the game with Hernadez, Ramsey and Borda passing the plate. In the Tigers last at bat Carl Ramsey drove in the winning run to score Tim Bouchard to end the game 6-5 Tigers. Friendly Astros 7 Hartnett Cubs 6 - On a beautiful Saturday afternoon the Astros and Cubs squared off for the third time this season. The Cubs jumped out to an early 4-1 lead behind the pitching of Robbie Farnan who turned in his third straight quality start versus the Astros this season. Playing with only nine players, the Astros fought back behind the strong starting pitching of Jared Diamicis to take a 5-4 lead at the end of four innings. The Astros' Nick Wanner made his pitching debut and held the Cubs scoreless in the sixth to give the Astros, now trailing 6-5, a chance in the bottom of the inning. Base hits by Ryan Gallagher and Wanner set the stage for Jake Mottola's drive into left field which scored two runs and gave the Astros a hard fought walk-off 7-6 win. Cubs notables included Johnny Holohan with a good relief pitching effort while going 2-3 at the plate with 2 RBI. Matthew Schell added two hits while Farnan (1 H), Nick Maloney (1 H, 1 RBI), Ryan Ifkovitz, (1 RBI), Chris Durgin (reached base 2X) and Jacob Thomas (1 H) also contributed. Astros' offensive stars included Mottola (2-3, 3RBI, reached base 3X), Matt Harkins (1 H, 2 RBI), Diamicis (3-3, 1 RBI), and Sean Blessington (reached base 2X) while Yianni Elethuriou, Wanner, and Ryan Gallagher (playing all six innings with a 101 degree fever) added one base hit each. Woodlawn Rays 11 Friendly Gift Shop Astros 10 -The Rays and Astros concluded another thrilling day of baseball with the Rays prevailing 11-10 in six innings. The Rays jumped out to an early 9-0 lead behind the hitting provided from Chris Kimmel (2-4, 2 RBIs, 2 Runs). Aubrey "Say Hey" Kingston. Kingston had a monster day going 4-4 with three runs scored. Thomas "Hit Man" Connelly served notice that he is ready for majors going 3-3, 3RBIs. The Hit Man also pitched flawlessly through the first and second inning before handing the mound over to Sam " The Man" Barrett. While the Astros started to come back, they were held in check by a beautiful 1-3-2 double play capped by Noah "Ryan Howard" Haines blocking the plate and tagging out a hard charging Matthew Gallagher. The Astros came back to tie the game at 9-9 with offense led Jack Williams (2-3, RBI), Dylan Desmond (2RBI), Jake Mottola (1-1, 2RBI, 1 Run), Sean Blessington (2 walks, 1 run), Diamicis (2-3) and Matt Harkins (1-1, 2 runs). The Rays came back with the winning run knocked in by John "little big man" Andreoli on a beautiful line shot. The Rays and Astros served notice that they are in post season form! Friendly Gift Shop 9 Woodlawn 8 - In a game that began on May 1st (suspended due to darkness) and was completed on May 17th, the Astros outlasted the Rays in an exciting eight inning game by the score of 9-8. The game resumed in the top of the seventh inning and Matthew Gallagher (5 IP, 8K) held the Rays offense in check through the extra sessions without allowing a run while striking out five across two innings. Chris Kimmel also pitched well for the Rays in the extra frames. The seventh and eighth innings saw two close plays at the plate as each team had a runner thrown out that could have broken the tie. Finally, Andrew Conces delivered for the Astros with a clutch line drive into deep right enter field to score Nick Wanner for the walkoff victory. Rays starting pitcher John Andreoli did a nice job and was followed by Christian Diamanty (5K) who allowed only one run in four innings of work. The Rays offense was led by Noah Haines (3H, 3RBI, reached base 4X), Diamanty (2H), and Aubrey Kingston (reached base 3X). Jared Diamicis was the Astros starter and pitched well while striking out seven. Offensive highlights for the Astros were Wanner's triple (3H, 1RBI) and performances by Diamicis (reached base 3X, 3RBI), Conces (2H, 2RBI), Ryan Gallagher (reached base 3X), and Yianni Eletheriou (2H). Homecraft Tigers 12 Woodlawn Rays 8 - The Tigers and the Devil Rays met on Thursday night competing for the top spot in what proved to be a very competitive and fundamentally sound baseball game. Two doubles off the hot bats of the Tigers Carl Ramsey (3 for 4) and the Devil Rays Caroline Silverman (2 for 3) lead the way. The Tigers jumped out to an early lead with 5 runs scored by Linkhurst, Bouchard, Quinney, Hernandez and Borda. The Rays came right back with 2 runs by Diamanty and Frank. In the second inning each team scored 2 runs with Linkhurst, and Mocha crossing the plate for the Tigers, while Kimmel and Avndrepoi scored for the Rays. After two innings the score was 7-4 Tigers. Each team traded a run in the third, bringing the score to 8-5 after three. In the fifth inning the the Tigers were able to muster 3 runs off with hits by Ramsey, Steenkamer and Johnson. The Rays again fought back with two runs by Diamanty and Frank, with solid batting by Silverman and Kimel. After 5 tigers 11, Rays 7. The last inning proved to be very exciting with the Tigers adding one run off an RBI by Luke Borda scoring Ricky Quinney. The resilient Rays made it interesting with Avndrepoli and Lemma reaching base with two strong at bats, and no outs for the Rays. Avndrepoli crossed the plate for the final run of the game, with strong pitching by Owen Linkhurst to end the game with a final score of Tigers 12- Rays 8. Woodlawn Landscapping Devil Rays 19 Hartnett Cubs 8 - The Rays and Cubs battled for supremacy on Heeney Filed with the Rays prevailing 19-8. The Rays came out with the big bats in the first inning with three runs capped by a double from Noah Haines. But, there was more to come from the Rays. The Cubs showed their heart by matching the Rays with three runs in the first. The Rays then broke the game wide open as the game moved into the later innings. The Rays pitching was handled by the aces Thomas "Hit Man" Connelly, Chris "Big Cannon" Kimmel and Christian "Whose Your Daddy" Diamanty. The Cubs offense was highlighted by hits from Thomas, Farnell, Martinez and Schell. The Rays then put on an offensive performance to be remembered. The Rays contributions came from Randy "hot dog" Frank who had several shots out to the Heeney wall followed by hits from Aubrey "Say Hey" Kingston, Thomas "Hit Man" Connelly, Chris "Big Cannon" Kimmel, Sam "The Man" Barrett and a game tying RBI from Caroline"Dental Floss" Silverman. Noah Haines deserves special recognition for catching all six innings. Evan "Stick" O'Connor made a pretty play catching a pop up at second base to end the game. Friendly Gift Shop Astros 8 YCST Angels 7 - The Astros and Angels played the third game in their season long series. It was a pitcher's duel and sharp defensive game through the first three innings. Astros' pitcher, Ian Porter, made his first start of the season and did a great job while pitching into the fourth inning (4K). Nick Rossi matched him with an excellent pitching performance into the fifth inning (6K). The Astros rallied for a total of seven runs in the fourth and fifth innings led by Jared Diamicis (2-3, 3 RBI), Andrew Conces (3B, 2 RBI), Sean Blessington (1H, 1BB) and Ryan Gallagher (reached base 2X). The Astros held a 7-3 lead going into the sixth inning before the Angels staged a spirited rally. With two down the Angels rallied for four runs to tie the game before Conces ended the inning with a strikeout. The Angels offense was led by Chris Carlson (reached base 2X), Michael Ruello (1 BB, 1H), and Jeremy Kuzo who hit a monstrous double to the wall in left center for 2 RBI to highlight the Angels sixth inning. The Astros came through in the bottom in the sixth to score a run with Dylan Desmond and Jack Williams (1H, 1BB) reaching base before Diamicis lined a walk off single to center to earn the Astros a hard fought 8-7 victory. Homecraft Tigers 7 YCST Angels 6 - Thursday, May 8 provided another great baseball game between two talented teams. The Tigers prevailed in extra innings to beat the Angels by a score of 7 to 6. Aided by a triple by Tim Bouchard the Tigers scored 5 runs in the first inning. This scored Austin Hernandez and then Rick Quinney, Carl Ramsey and Matt Hogan all scored. Owen Linkhurst also singled in the first inning. Carl Ramsey and Chris Dewey both singled in the 4th inning, adding another run for the Tigers. The Angels responded with runs by Nick Rossi, Chris Carlson, and J Kuzo in the 5th. J Pearsall and N. Friedkin tied it up in the 6th inning. Matt Hogan scored the winning run in the 7th inning followed up by a stellar pitching performance by Carl Ramsey. Friendly Gift Shop Astros 10 Hartnett Cubs 8 - The Astros and Cubs continued their season series with another well played game. The Cubs had a big first inning scoring five runs with a well balanced attack. Jared Diamicis settled down for the Astros and pitched effectively into the fourth inning (6Ks). The Astros battled back to forge a 6-6 tie after four innings. A four run fifth inning allowed the Astros to take a lead but the never-say-die Cubs made the last inning exciting with two runs, but fell just a bit short by a score of 10-8. The Cubs pitching was led by Robbie Farnan's quality start. Johnny Holohan did a nice job in relief. Cubs batters were led by Farnan (reached base all three times with an RBI), Evan Martinez (2H), and Matthew Schell (1H, 1BB). Andrew Conces (3-3, 1 RBI) and Diamicis (1-3, 3 RBI) paced the Astros offense. Nick Wanner added a double, triple, and RBI while Matt Harkins chipped in going 2-2. Ian Porter came on in relief to close out the Cubs which earned him the save. Homecraft Tigers 11 Friendly Gift Shop Astros 9 -The spectators witnessed another superb performance by both teams tonight. The Tigers scored first aided with a single by Tim Bouchard. The Astros responded with hits by Nick Wanner (2b), A. Conces, and M. Minnick, scoring 3 runs. I. Porter singled in a run in the 2nd inning and A. Conces tripled in another run in the 3rd to give the Astros a 5 to 1 lead. In typical fashion, The Tigers got hits by Matt Hogan, Owen Linkhurst, and Tim Bouchard, giving the Tigers an 8 to 5 lead. The Astros tied in up in the 6th inning. The Tigers scored 3 runs in the 7 th inning, then holding the Astros to 1 run, ending the game 11 to 9. Woodlawn Rays 13 YCST Angels 8 - The Rays and the Angels tangled again under brightening skies on Heeney Field. Things were so bright that the hitting and pitching for the Angels was blinding to the "never say die" Rays. The Angels defense was anchored by the stellar pitching performance of Nick Rossi. Nick threw a five inning masterpiece striking out 11 Ray batters along the way. The Angels cause was helped by big time plate appearances by Mason Elliott and Carlson who each contributed with hits. The Angels attack was capped by a monster shot by Noah Rivera who brought home two runs in the first with a triple out to the wall while the Angels racked up 7-1 lead heading into the top of the 6th. The Rays then awakened from their Saturday slumber. The Rays exploded for 12 runs highlighted by patient plate appearances and five hits from Randy "hot dog" Frank, Noah "Ryan Howard" Haines, John "little big man" Andreoli and a double by Caroline "dental floss" Silverman. The Rays handled the Angels with Three Amigos pitching staff consisting of Noah Haines, Sam "The Man" Barrett and Aubrey "Say Hey" Kingston allowing just one run after the Angels first three explosive innings.Homecraft Tigers 13 Hartnett Cubs 12 - Last night the Homecraft Tigers met the Hartnet Cubs in a rematch that proved to be a very competitive and entertaining game. All the kids should be proud of their efforts on both sides of the ball, as both teams showed tremendous team work and character during the game. The Tigers started the scoring on an RBI by Ricky Quinney driving in Austin Hernandez for one run. Cubs pitcher, Jacob Thomas (5 K's) pitched out of the inning to hold the Tigers to one run in their first at bat. The Cubs came up to bat and exploded for 4 in their first inning with aggressive base running with runs scored by Fraser, Farnan, Schell and Thomas, to put the Cubs on top 4-1 after one. In the Third inning the Tigers fought back and scored 5 runs with Johnson, Issakoff, Macha, Grier and Hernandez all passing the plate giving the Tigers a 6-4 lead after two. Tigers pitcher Carl Ramsey bared down and throw through 5K's after 4 innings holding the cubs to just one more run in the 3rd, bringing the cubs to within one at 6-5. In the fifth inning the resilient Cubs fought back and scored 5 runs started by a hard hit double off the bat of Maloney. Maloney then scored along with Ifkoritz, Gamble, Martinez and Bordi, to give the Cubs a 10-6 lead. The Sixth inning brought yet another comeback in the game with the Tigers scoring 7 runs on aggressive base running and key hits by Luke Borda, Chris Dewey and Owen Linkhurst. At the top of the sixth the visiting Tigers now held a 13 - 10 lead. A lead off single by Lundstrum and hit pitch on Robinson put the first two batters on base for the Cubs, and both eventually scored on some crafty base running binging the count to 12-13. With men on Second and third, Owen Linkhust bared down and threw three strike out to end the game 13-12 Tigers. Hartnett Cubs 13 YCST Angels 12 - If you like climatic finishes, this was certainly your type of game. The Angels got out to the lead early by scoring 5 runs in the second inning fueled by a single by Jeffery Grantham (2-2, 2 single) and a hit by Michael Taylor (1-2). The Angels pitcher Noah Rivera (7k's) blanked the Cubs for 3 innings by not allowing the Cubs to string together any hits. He also got some help in the field by his teammates including a great catch by Mason Elliott in center field robbing Shaun Frazier (2-3, single and double) of an extra base hit. The Angels added a run to their lead in the third inning on some aggressive base running by Mason Elliott who walked then stole two bases and scored on a pass ball. The fourth inning is when the fireworks began, the Angels put up 3 runs after Grantham's second single and a single by Jack O'Neil (1-1, single and BB) with runners on base. The Cubs put on their rally caps and scored 5 runs on Angels reliever Joshua Pearsall (3k's). The Cubs finally strung together some hits starting with Nic Maloney's single, Shaun Frazier's double and finally a single by Cubs reliever Johnny Holahan (2-2, 6k's) bring the score to 9-5. The Angles lengthened their lead in the fifth by two more runs after a clutch 2 out single by Nick Rossi (2-2, 2 singles). The Cubs kept their heads up, lead by an early single by Chris Durgin (1-2), followed by singles by Evan Martinez (1-2), Shaun Frazier and Robbie Farnan (1-2 and 7k's), they were able to put up another 5 runs to bring the score to 11-10 going into the sixth. The Angels weren't through yet, after two quick outs, Jeffrey Grantham drew a walk and was able to steal three bases and lengthen the lead to 12-10 going into the bottom of the inning. Matthew Schell (1-1, 2 walks) lead off for the Cubs with a single and advanced to third on an overthrow and scored on a Jakob Thomas (1-3) single. Johnny Holahan followed Thomas with another single and stole a base to put runners on second and third for Jonathan Robertson who placed a ball right down the first base line to bring in two runs and the victory for the Cubs. Woodlawn Rays 9 Homecraft Tigers 8 - On a beautiful spring evening, the Rays prevailed over the Tigers 9-8. It was the Rays first appearance on Heeney Field, but they felt right at home pounding out many hits. John Andreoli capped a three run first inning for the Rays with a double. The Tigers came back with a run in the bottom of the first and then three more runs in the second to jump out to a 4-3 lead. The "never say die" Rays came right back in the third with a two run single from Noah "Ryan Howard" Haines. Mike Spitaleri had a hit in the fourth inning putting the Rays ahead 8-4. Chris Kimmel was cruising on the mound for the Rays (9 Ks and no walks through 4 innings). The Tigers found the groove in the fifth rallying for four runs. The Tigers had timely hits from Owen Linkhorst and Luke Borda. The Rays were lucky to have Thomas "Hit Man" Connolly pitch in relief in the fifth and sixth. With the score tied at 8-8 and the Rays at the plate, Evan "Stilts" O'Connor had a one out hit followed by some crafty base running. Anthony "Big Papi" Lemma singled and notched an RBI as the Rays went up 9-8 for the final lead of the game. The game was highlighted by tremendous defense and hitting. Notably, the Tigers had two hits each from Luke Borda and Owen Linkhorst with Chris Dewey and Tim Bouchard each contributing to the Tigers attack. For the Rays, Noah Haines went 3-3 with 3 RBI with Thomas Connolly, Aubrey Kingston, Randy Frank and Chris Diamanty contributing to the Rays 13 output. The Tigers sparkled in the filed with three outfield putouts. Harnett Cubs 15 Homcraft Tigers 5 - In a rare Sunday game, the Hartnett Cubs faced the Homecraft Tigers. The Cubs jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the first inning when Robbie Farnan (1-1, 2BB, 4 runs scored) scored on an fielder's choice. The Cubs then put up 5 runs in the third inning fueled by a triple down the left field line by Matthew Schell (1-3) who also made a great catch in the bottom of the inning to end a potential 2 out rally by Homecraft. The fourth inning is when Homecraft took advantage of some early walks with aggressive base running and put up 3 runs before pitcher Jakob Thomas (11k's in 5 1/3 innings and a triple) settled down to close the inning. Going into the sixth inning the Cubs were up 8-3 and were able to extend their lead after a base loaded triple by birthday boy, Jakob Thomas. The Tigers never gave up, Rich Quinney (1-2, single, run scored) started off the inning with a hit, aggressive base running and scored the Tigers first run. He was followed by Carl Ramsey who drew a walk, stole two bases and scored on a fielder's choice. Cubs reliever, Johnny Holahan (3k's, 2 runs scored), settled down and stopped the Homecraft rally to complete the Cubs win. YCST Angels 12 Friendly Gift Shop Astros 6 - The Angels and Astros squared off for the second time this season on Heeney Field. Nick Rossi on the Angels had another spectacular pitching performance . . . . . striking out 11 and coming one pitch from pitching a complete solid 5 innings. Nick also became the first Angel of the year requiring extra work from the trainers after the game after he was hit by pitches his first two times up…but scored both times!!!……Scoring for the Angels twice each were Nick Rossi, Billy Beaudet, Josh Pearsall (2 singles), Jeffrey Grantham (2 singles)and Michael Ruello. Andrew Conces pitched three solid innings for the Astros and was 2for2 at the plate with a single and a double. And Ryan Gallagher came on in relief and pitched well for the Astros as well. The Astros fought back and scored 5 runs in the sixth inning with the main shot coming from Nick Wanner who hit a bases loaded triple off the fence. Hartnett Cubs 7 Woodlawn Rays 5 - On a great night for baseball, the Hartnett Cubs squared off against the Woodlawn Rays in a game that was dominated by pitching and defense! The Cubs took the lead first in the top of the second when Matthew Schell (2 BB's and 2 runs scored) scored on a single by Johnny Holahan (2-2, 2 singles). Holahan than scored on one of two sacrifice hits by Chris Durgin to give the Cubs a 2 run lead. The Cubs were than able to lengthen their lead in the fourth inning on a series of hits by Robbie Farnan (1-2, double), Jakob Thomas (1-2, single) and Will Lundstom's (1-1, double) two RBI double to go up 7-0. The Rays were not done yet, they put their rally caps on and with some patience at the plate and a clutch single by Thomas Connoly (1-3) the Rays were able to put up 5 runs to bring the score to 7-5 going into the final inning. The Rays pitcher, Sam Barrett, strolled confidently to the mound and showed his toughness after walking the first batter, by settling down to get the next three batter in order backed by some nice fielding by Chris Kimmel who robbed the Cubs Brandon Gable of what looked to be a sure hit to right field. The Rays' Caroline Silverman also had a hot hand making two nice fielding plays to support Barrett's efforts. The Rays then came in and put the pressure on by getting two runners on with two outs until the Cubs reliever, Johnny Holahan, who got he first two outs himself on hard hit balls by Sam Barrett and Thomas Connoly, was able to end the game on a catch my second baseman Matthew Schell. Once again the Cubs/Rays match up came down the final inning. If you like good baseball, make sure you check the schedule for when these two teams butt heads again. Homecraft Tigers 9 YCST Angels 4 - Saturday the Angels and Tigers met on Heeney for what proved to be an exciting match up. The Tigers struck first on a hard hit ball by Carl Ramsey driving in Ricky Quinney and Austin Hernandez, a great play at the plate by catcher Chris Carlson and strong pitching by Noah Revera ended the inning. Through the next two innings the Tigers were able to muster three more runs bringing the score after 3 innings to 5-0 tigers. The Astros fought back with 4 runs by M. Elliot, N. Rossi, C carlson and N. Rivera, closing to within 1 run, 5-4. The next two innings had the Tigers scoring 4 with runs by L. Borda, M. Hogan, O. Linkhurst and Will Steenkamer. Tim Bouchard came in and blanked the Angels to seal the win with a 9-4 Tigers win. Harnett Cubs 18 Friendly Gifts Astros 10 - On a beautiful Saturday afternoon, the Hartnett Cubs faced off with the Friendly Gift Astros in great game. Don't let the final score fool you, this was a closely contested battle form the beginning. The Cubs started off the scoring in the top of the first inning when Jakob Thomas (2-2, triple and 2 walks) smashed a pitch to deep center field which drove in 2 runs and he later scored on a single by Will Lundstrom (1-2, single and 2 walks). The Astros struck back with 2 runs of there own powered by a double from Jared Diamicis (3-3, double and 2 singles). Jared also pitched well for the Astros, striking out 7 Cub batters over three innings. The Cubs pitcher Robbie Farnan (7 k's) settled down in the second inning, but both teams scored in the third inning knotting the score at 5 runs apiece. The relievers than took over for both teams, Shaun Frazier (5k's) pitched well for the Cubs holding the Astros to 2 runs in two inning pitched and Matthew Gallagher (4k's and a double) held the Cubs scoreless over two innings. Going into the sixth the score was 7-5 Astros, but the Cubs were not done yet. After tying the score, the Cubs were able to break the game open on a single by Jonathan Robertson (3-3, singles) and Matthew Schell (2k's and a single) was able to close down a late rally by the Astros to get the win. Woodlawn Rays 10 YCST 4 - The Rays continue to surge forward evening their record at 2-2. The early innings were highlighted by great pitching from both teams. For the Rays, Noah Haines threw three solid innings striking out 5 while Nick Rossi went four innings for the Angels striking out 7. The game went back and forth with the Angels drawing first blood with 2 runs in the top of the second inning. The Rays came right back with two runs highlighted by an inside the park home run by Chris Kimmel. The Angels came back with two more runs in the third. John Pearshall helped the Angels with his first hit of the year and two RBI followed by a lined shot by Billy Beaudet who also scored a run.
