Tuesday, June 24
ML 12u (50/70) Captures D8 Flag
Mays Landing 12's won the District 8 Championship last week by winning three consecutive games after losing their first.

M.L. had a tough first game with Mullica, losing 4-1  Steven Damiano had a solid game at 3rd base with 4 put outs and on offense Mac Boney, Darren Laigaie , Steven Damiano and Danny Smith each had a single with Smith stealing 2 bases and getting the only M.L. run
In the losers bracket M.L. had to face Mullica again.But this one started much different with Tyler Thompson leading off the game with a base hit up the middle and stealing 2nd base. Next batter Quinn Hardrick hit a double with an rbi scoring Tyler Thompson.Danny Smith and James Townley each had a base hit.Darren Laiggie had a single and a home run to help offensively.In the feild Kenny Merlock was great catching throwing 2 runners out trying to steal. Tyler Thompson and Mac Boney turned a nice 4-6-3 double play.On the mound Darren Laigaie got the start, throwing a solid 2 innings and Tyler Thompson finished strong throwing the last 4 innings. M.L went on to win 4-2. 
In the first game of the championship round, Mays Landing defeated EHT 6-2. At the plate Kenny Merlock and James Townley each had base hits while Darren Laigaie had a Grand Slam to blow this game open. Patrick Speer , Frankie Mazzeo, Daniel Flippen , Danny Smith and Tyler Thompson all capitalized off of EHT walks. In the field Patrick Speer made play after play at 3rd base and also turned a 6-4-3 double play with Tyler Thompson. Quinn Hardrick , James Townley, Frankie Mazzeo and Daniel Flippen all made nice plays in the outfield. Danny Smith got the start and pitched the whole game, mixing up his pitches and keeping the EHT batters off balance thru 6 innings.
This set the tone for one heck of a final game Tuesday night between EHT and Mays Landing. EHT jumped out to an early lead, hitting two homers and taking a 3-0 lead. Tyler Thompson came in to put out the fire and had the EHT batters off balance by mixing up his pitches with a nasty curve ball . Thompson went on to pitch 6 innings allowing just one more hit and striking out 10, as Mays Landing triumphed 8-3.
At the plate Mac Boney's single drove in the go ahead run. In the field Quinn Hardrick made 2 great catches in centerfield, one diving.
Mays Landing now advances to the Southern New Jersey State Tournament to be held in Montgomery Township starting July 11.

MAYS LANDING BABE RUTH WINS ATLANTIC SHORE

MAYS LANDING (14-15'S) WIN CHAMPIONSHIP!!!! 

MAYS LANDING - 3                        BRIGANTINE - 1
Mays Landing completed an outstanding season with an Atlantic Shore Championship game victory over Brigantine, 3-1. Mays Landing went unbeaten in the double elimination playoffs en route to the championship. They handed Brigantine their only two losses of the season after Brigantine went undefeated in the regular season at 16-0. Mays Landing entered the playoffs at 14-2, and then ran off the four victories needed to reach the ultimate goal. In the final game, Sean Carberry pitched six five-hit innings along with seven strikeouts to gain his third win of the playoffs. Paul Poucher got a 1-2-3 seventh for his second playoff save along with one victory. Derek Silver completed an unbelievable four game playoff run by going 3 for 3 to give him a 15 for 15 stat line. Carberry and John Strickland each added two hits in the game. Angel Lleras got Mays Landing going with a long two out double in the second inning and scored on a base hit by Strickland. Carberry tripled and scored on a single by Ray Paone and Silver scored on a Brigantine throwing error. Anthony Baglivo braved the heat and caught a flawless seven innings. Jake Andricci played a solid game at second base after injuries caused a lineup shuffle for Mays Landing. Jason Palermo, John Platanella and Jimmy Smith also contributed to the championship game victory. Injured and unable to play were Sean Scull and Jason Koros. Ryan Ellison and Nick Harring were unable to play due to previous commitments. Each and every Mays Landing player played key roles in various capacities throughout the season and playoffs. This group of young men was proudly coached by Head Coach Jon Duble and Assistant Coaches Rob Silver, Sal Palermo and Dean Ellison.



Sunday, June 22
Mays Landing 9's Win Districts and the Mays Landing Tournament
The Mays Landing 9u team won the District 8 Championship held last week in Egg Harbor Township. During the six team, double elimination tournament, Mays Landing went 4-0.

Jonathan Dodson and Cade Antonucci each drove in a run in the bottom of the 6th as Mays Landing defeated Galloway 6-5. Tristian Kuddar scored the winning run after drawing a walk. Matty Robinson went 2-4 with two runs scored while Max Szamreta struck out four in the last two innings to allow the winners to come back.

In their second game of District 8, Mays Landing edged EHT 8-6. Carl Phillips led the offense with 3 rbi while Dodson and Szamreta each scored two and Ryan Kelly drove home two.

The offense exploded in the fourth and fifth inning as Mays Landing scored 22 runs to break open what was a 3-2 game, toppling Ocean City and advancing to the finals. Ryan Kelly went 5-5 with 4 rbi while Eric Tkacz and Rickie Kreischer each had two hits to lead the way. Max Szamreta pitched three strong innings to earn the victory. 

In the championship final, Mays Landing fell behind 3-0 to EHT in the first but never got down. Runs batted in from Tyler Sutley and Matty Robinson  tied the game at 3 in the second. Tristian Kuddar and Sutley each drove runs home in the third as Mays Landing kept pace. Ryan Kelly and Jonathan Dodson each added RBI singles in the 5th and Cade Antonucci pitched a strong 6th to help Mays Landing prevail 7-5.

Mays Landing advances on to the Southern New Jersey State tournament, starting July 25 in Indian Mills. Meanwhile, they will stay sharp in tournaments in Galloway.

The Mays Landing 9u all-stars outscored their opponents 47-7 over five games to capture the Mays Landing Tournament Championship.
Pool Play
 Mays Landing defeated Franklin Township 10-0 behind the shutout pitching of Matty Robinson and Cade Antonucci. Tyler Sutley blasted a double and triple, while Alec Thomas singled and scored a run.
The bats came out as Mays Landing batted around in the first inning while scoring eight runs to topple Margate 15-3. Eric Tkacz doubled, singled, and drove in two runs to lead the attack while Cade Antonucci went 3-3 with two triples and five RBI. Carl Phillips went 2-2 with two runs scored.
The big inning was the fourth in Mays Landing's 11-1 victory over Upper Township. Tristian Kuddar, Tkacz, and Ryan Kelly all had hits as Mays Landing batted around to put the game out of reach. Max Szamreta pitched three innings, allowing just one unearned run.
Semifinals
Pitchers Matty Robinson and Max Szamreta both pitched three strong innings and were the beneficiaries of some fine defense as Mays Landing edged Egg Harbor Township 4-2. Tristian Kuddar, Jonathan Dodson, and Cade Antonucci each had an RBI for the winners.
Finals
The pitching was outsanding once again in the finals as Robinson and Szamreta combined to allow just three hits and one run in Mays Landing's 7-1 victory over previuosly undefeated Marlton. Richie Kreischer had a hit, run scored and RBi to lead the offense and Jonathan Dodson went 2-2 with an RBI and two runs scored. Tyler Sutley also did well at the plate, driving in three.
Mays Landing moves on to play in the Galloway Tournament this week having won nine consecutive games and posting a 10-1-1 record overall.

Mays Landing 10's Go Extras to Capture ML Tournament
Mays Landing 14 - Margate 1
M.L. powered their way through a tough Margate team, with Tommy Kammer leading the way with 3 hits, including a homerun and 7 RBI. Greg Wright contributed two hits and two RBI, and Jonah Christiansen scored three.  Kendall Elliot struck out five over three innings.
Mays Landing 5 - Ventnor 8
M.L. lost a tough battle to a very good Ventnor team. Alex Boney and Ryan Johnson led M.L. with two hits each and a RBI each. David Sidwell had a hit and a RBI. M.L. lost the game but, showed great heart in coming back in the game.
Mays Landing 10 - EHT 4
M.L. had a strong performance against a very good EHT team. Ryan Johnson led the way with two hits and three RBI, while Kendall Elliot went 2-3 with an RBI. Desean Hart contributed a run scoring hit. Ryan Johnson and Alex Boney combined for a 5-hitter in a strong pitching performance.
Mays Landing 5 - Galloway 0
M.L. won a tough battle against a very good Galloway team. On offense, Ryan Johnson's contributed two hits and two RBI, while Alex Boney added 2 hits, one being a triple. Joey Paone also added a hit and two RBI. Kendall Elliot and Alex Boney combined for a 1 hit shut out in the contest.
Mays Landing 8 - Upper Twp. 7
The 10U Championship proved to be everything it was supposed to be, two rival teams battling into extra innings. Leading the way for M.L. were Tommy Kammer with two home runs, and four RBI, Joey Paone with a hit and an RBI, and Kendall Elliot with two hits, including the game winning RBI.

Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken League Coaching Education Center

Attention all prospective boys' baseball coaches in Minors, Majors, and Babe Ruth.

A new rule has been passed by Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth baseball that states that all coaches must have passed an online coaches certification course in order to be eligible to coach in the 2008 season and beyond. Please click on the link above for more information. The MLAA baseball committee will be enforcing this rule starting with the 2008 season. No coach will be permitted on the field without having gone through this course. All managers and assistants must be certified through Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth-even if you are already certified with Rutgers.
