The Bulls limited the potent Seminoles’ offensive attack to 7 points through three quarters, but Robert
Hunt found tight end Dennis Smith in the end zone twice in the final quarter to help Detroit pull away.
Smith finished with six catches for 75 yards and Hunt was 12 of 22 passing for 134 yards. While the Detroit
offense struggled early on, Seminole linebackers Brian Mallory and Mike Kyler paced a strong defensive
showing which allowed the Bulls only 34 yards of offense and three first downs. The Detroit defense
reached Louisville quarterback Marcus Warren four times, 2.5 of those sacks being credited to defensive
end Derrick Bolton, and did not allow Warren to complete a pass until less than nine minutes remained
in the game. Louisville’s defense nearly matched the Seminoles’ effort early on, twice stopping Detroit on
downs on drives that had reached into Bulls’ territory. Jeff Atkins one-yard score on Detroit’s
second possession of the game proved to be only blemish to the Bulls defense prior to the fourth quarter.
Atkins ran 8 times for 57 yards to lead all rushers in the game.
