Title:  The Grumble and Mumble

“Man I don’t know why Coach hasn’t put me in?”  “I paid my money like everyone else!”  “Man this is B.S.; I want to play because I’m a Balla too!”  All of these statements and plenty more can be heard on almost any sideline during a football game, but for Semi-Professional football these words cut at a veteran player more than anyone on a Semi-Pro team!  It’s not the fact that these things are said, but that they a said without merit!

So many times I have heard this and the same thing happens every time.  The player quits and is never heard from again.  As a coach for a Semi-Pro team, it has to be hard when it comes to this situation.  You want to keep players even if it is just for numbers sake and special teams.  The players who make these types of statements are 9 times out of ten “SCRUBS!”  Just once I would like to hear a Coach or Player say to these “Mumblers and Grumblers” “The reason why you’re not playing is because you are a SCRUB!”  Many people would agree with me on this point.  You have to pay your dues, earn a starting spot, or earn playing time.  What happens when a SCRUB gets in there and gives up 2 or 3 big plays in a close game, or picks up penalties for stupid things done while they are in the game?  The sad thing about it is that 90% of them don’t realize that they are “SCRUBS!”

I’m willing to bet that after these “SCRUBS” see the Detroit Seminoles or the Cleveland Lions they will not be complaining about getting in!  They will be scared to step on the field and take those hits!  They will not want to get burnt by a Roy Grainger or a Rico Franklin on a fade.  They will not want to get run over by a Chip McClain or scolded by a Robert Hunt!  They only complain and moan because they are cowards.  If the game is close, the starters stay in!  If they would work harder, show up for practice, make plays, stop fumbling, learn their plays, cover their man, and tackle better or just plain get some SKILLS then they would play more!

I’m tired of the “Mumble and Grumble” on the sidelines!  If you are that mad because you’re not playing, then just QUIT because we don’t need CANCERS on the team!  In this day and age if you have a Cancer, then you have to cut it off!  Cutting the CANCERS is just what coaches and teams should do!

Hope everyone enjoyed this first edition of “Carl’s Corner.”  Holla!
