Club Information and Objective.
The Hatboro-Horsham Wrestling Club is a local, non-profit, all volunteer organization, dedicated to the development of youth in grades K - 8th by introducing them to the sport of wrestling. Our focus is on building self-confidence, physical fitness and sportsmanship, while providing a safe and fun environment. As part of the 35 team Intercounty Wrestling League(ICWL), the Club competes against other youth organizations from the five-county area.

Formal practices start in October and continue until the end of the season in late February/early March. Wrestlers are broken into practice groups based on their age, weight, and experience. There are usually two practices a week held in the Simmons Elementary school gym. Practices start with stretching, strength and conditioning, then move to instructional drills and open wrestling. The younger groups often interrupt this format with games to keep things fun. Interested parents are invited to join the wrestlers on the mat and assist with drills.

After January 1st the ICWL season starts with meets against other area teams. Meets are usually held on Saturday mornings from 8:30 am to 12:00. Prior to each meet, coaches from the opposing teams meet to setup matches. If possible, up to three matches per wrestler are scheduled depending on the opposing team's roster. Coaches attempt to match wrestlers as close as possible based on experience, age and weight.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF WRESTLING
Wrestling dates back to prehistoric times and is considered the world’s oldest and purest sport. In French caves, there are drawings reported to be 15,000 to 20,000 years old depicting wrestlers in various holds and leverage positions.· Wrestling was introduced to the Olympic Games in Greece about 708 BC. The Greek philosopher Plato was an accomplished wrestler. Native Americans wrestled for sport long before the first Europeans arrived. Nine of our Presidents were wrestlers. Washington and Lincoln were considered to be excellent at the sport, both holding various championship titles. Others were Jackson, Taylor, Grant, Arthur, Taft, T. Roosevelt, and Coolidge.
