Friday, May 16 FIELD UPDATE 5/16/08 Message from City of Frederick: Please note that all City Sports Fields (including City leased school fields) are CLOSED, Friday, May 16, 2008 due to standing water, wet field conditions and continued rain. Note that we will be keeping a continued watch on weather and field conditions which may result in the need to close for the next few days. Field Closures will be sent as soon as a decision is made. What CITY SPORTS FIELDS CLOSED means - all City leased fields, including City school fields, are closed for the time frame indicated. No one is to use the fields when closed. If it is found that a permitted league is using a closed field, the potential to be fined and/or loss of field usage for the season is probable. If an unpermitted user is found to be using a closed field, a warning and/or Citation will be issued. If you have any questions regarding this notice, please contact the Department of Parks & Recreation Office Manager, Kristi A. Winterstein, at 301-600-1493 or kristi@cityoffrederick.com. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. MEETING ALERT Next meeting will be May 16th, 6:30 PM at Angleberger Field ...SITE CHANGED.... We will meet at the Ballenger Creek Roy Rogers instead!! HIT-A-THON / PICTURE DAY Don't forget about the Hit-A-Thon (HAT) and Picture Day! (Accent on the word DAY) The date is rapidly approaching! Sunday May 18th! As you can imagine there have been a lot of scheduling and rescheduling in the last 2 weeks. Your patience has been appreciated. The picture schedule and HAT Schedule is listed below. I have tried to minimize the amount ot time you have to be at the park and the amount of time you have to wait around. The photo company is bringing 3 photographers to keep us moving. They can get 3 teams done every 15 minutes!
How's the Hit A Thon work?? Each player will earn an at bat for every $10 in sponsorship money they collect. The maximum at bats per player is 10. An at bat will consist of a fair ball that travels more than 20 feet. For Tee Ball and Machine Pitch the distance measured will be how far a ball travels until it stops rolling. For Minors and Majors we will measure how far a ball travels in flight. All at bats will be taken from a batting tee! Should there be a tie at the end of the divisional contest the players will hold a bat-off. If players do not wait around until the end of their division he/she will forfeit their chance to finish first. HAT Sponsor form is posted in the Handout Section under Fundraisers or can be obtained through your team parent. WHAT IS SPORTSMANSHIP?? Check out the article from ESPN.com that has been added to the Handout Section to the left. Share this with your kids / players. This is what sportsmanship is all about. It's not all about winning. Excellent story for the kids and adults alike! GLORY DAYS FUNDRAISER Don't forget about eating at Glory Days Restaurant. Turn in your receipts to John Eliot or at the Angleberger Concession Stand and we get 10% of the receipt! This offer runs through the month of July!! THIS WEEK IN FALL HISTORY 5/12 - 5/18 Thanks to our resident historian, Kevin Bream, we have a new item for the web site. This Week In FALL History. Here are some interesting tidbits that Kevin was able to dig up for the week of May 12th: 1957: Jimmy Wilson took the mound against the Amvets for the winless Tall Cedars hoping to jump start the Cedars season. Jimmy threw a three hitter and beat the Amvets 5-3. He helped himself at the plate too. He went 3 for 3 at bat and hit in both the go-ahead runs.
1973: When the Tall Cedars (one of the original 4 teams in the league) left after the 1969 season, they were replaced by One Hour Martinizing. One Hour played for three seasons and won one championship before giving way to the kelly-green uniforms of Donald B. Rice Tire Co. Pete Kemlage got the honors of taking the mound for the first game in Donald B. Rice history. Pete did the team and history well by throwing a no-hitter that day, defeating the Amvets 3-1 and getting the 1973 season off with a bang. 2001: Despite a home run by Stephen Trifone and two hits by Kyle Hawkins of FMI, it was Nick Meekins’ night for Natelli. His two hits including a double led to a 6-5 win for the team. Clint Edwards and Will Fleming also had doubles for Natelli in the win QUESTIONS? Email us at frederickamericanlittleleague@yahoo.com
