We all must understand that most of these umpires are just kids and we as an organization (EYBA) try to offer this to the kids (Umpiring) to keep them involved in the sport and also to keep them off of the streets. These kids learn as they get more experience umpiring and they get more comfortable with what they are doing and become more confident in themselves. We also have to remember that some kids are intimidated by adults and are scared to death and are affraid they might make a mistake. I really dont see any adults stepping up and volunteering their time to umpire games! We need to take a long look in the mirror and put the shoe on the other foot and think would I go out there and umpire these games,    just something we all need to think about!

We all have to remember that Coach Pitch is an instructional league, not only for players but also umpires. These are just kids learning, and there are quite a few rules they have to remember. Rules are posted on here for everyone, including coaches. They, for the most part, are doing their best. There are adult umpires that second guess themselves on the rules from time to time. I have been to several Coach pitch games this year and personally can not believe the way some parents and coaches are behaving in a league this young. Remember, it is instructional at this age.

Just wanted to make a comment about the officiating this year in the girls coach pitch league. If we're going to have kids umpiring the games, they need to be trained and they need to be out there for the right reasons. Not only has the officiating been inconsistent from game to game, but you have kids out there who won't speak up so that you can hear a call. If any EYBA board members have been at the ball fields for a girls coach pitch ball game this year, you'll have noticed one thing - every game has opposing managers arguing the rules and umpires who have no idea what the rules are.

Something needs to change soon before these kids are negatively affected by the craziness going on at the ball fields.
