This year the MVLA Mercury got the golden goal to win 2 - 1. In the Golden Gate Invitational we defeated DVSC and SF in bracket play but lost to the Central Marin Magic. We then lost to the San Juan Spirits 1 - 0 in the 2nd overtime of the consolation game. At District Cup, we shut out the district, outscoring all opponents 20 - 0 and beating the Los Gatos Lock 2 - 0 in the final. At the Placer Tournament we took 2nd after winning our bracket but losing to the Mustang Fury in pk's in the championship. With all of those quality teams, we came out on top by beating the California Odyssey 2 - 0 in the finals, Santa Rosa Freeze 1 - 0 in the semi-finals, and tying the Mustang Fury 0 - 0 and defeating Elk Grove 5 - 0 in bracket play. Before Monday's semi-final, the Strykers won both of their pool games on Saturday, defeating Washington state champs Dosveedanya 5 - 1 and Surf Blue 2 - 0. On Sunday morning, the Strykers lost 1 - 0 to the Laguna Hills Eclipse in a tough game. This qualified us for the quarterfinals against the ISC Strikers, who took 1st place in their bracket by winning all 3 games. They had the wind in the 1st half and only a great tip over the goal by keeper BH preserved the 0 - 0 score. The 2nd half was back and forth until we began to assert ourselves late in the game. With only a few minutes left we strung together 5 passes which freed BS to take a low hard shot past their keeper for the game winner. Click on the "Schedules" link for individual game summaries.
