Flames Win 2005 National Amateur Baseball Federation (NABF) World Championship
The Flames hung on to defeat the Franklin, Tennessee Vipers 11-10 in the
championship game of the NABF World Championship on July 24, 2005 in Nashville
Tennessee. Jimmy Brenneman led off the game with a long home run and the
Flames did not stop in the first inning until plating 8 runners to jump out
to a quick start. Brenneman ended up scoring two runs in the inning, Tim
Issler drove in 2 and scored 1, Colton Cattani had a double and scored a
run, Mike Nastold drove in 2 and scored 1, Derek Bischoff singled in a run
and scored a run, Andy Lamping drove in a run and scored and Kevin
Enchelmeyer drove in a run and scored all in the first inning.
Unfortunately the Flames bats went silent after that with the exception of
a triple by Cattani scoring Issler and a sac fly by Nastold to score
Cattani. The Vipers battled all the way back in the 6th to tie the game at
10. In the bottom of the 6th Matt Vanover led off the inning with a
single. Lamping forced him at second and with two outs, David Giese hit a
long double scoring Lamping all the way from first with the game winning
run. Mike Nastold came on to shut the door in the 7th to gain the save as
the Flames claimed their second World Championship in their 7 years of
existence.
During the tournament, Nate Bowman had two game winning hits in the final
inning of the game, Drew Ernst pitched a complete game victory over the
Chattanooga Cherokees and picked up a save against the Diamond Stars, Ryan
Bucher had the win against the Diamond Stars and pitched well in the
championship game before tiring in the 110 degree heat, Issler had 2 wins
(Springfield Bulldogs, Franklin Vipers) and a save ( Maryland Orioles)
getting out of a first and second jam in relief by inducing the first
triple play in Flames history, Nastold also pitched a complete game in the
semi-final round ( Ohio Warhawks) , Giese picked up a win ( Am Nationals,
St.Louis Missouri) and pitched out of a bases loaded one out situation in
the championship game and Bischoff was the winning pitcher in the first
game of the championship round ( Maryland Orioles). Cattani was named MVP
and Brenneman was named outstanding hitter. Bischoff hit two big home
runs during critical situations during the tournament. The defense was
outstanding during the entire tournament led by Brenneman in CF, Issler
and Cattani at 2B and SS, respectively, Bowman at 3B and Lamping and
Cattani behind the plate.
For the year the Flames ended up with 43 wins and 13 losses. They were the
SWOL champions, the Indianapolis 4th of July Roundtripper Wood Bat
Champions and the NABF National Champions.
Thanks to all the parents and players for a great season!!!! It was truly
enjoyable. It is a rare occasion when you can say that you have set a
very high goal and were able to achieve it. At the beginning of the year
we told the team that the goal was to win a National Championship.
Everything that happens during the year is designed to get ready to play at
our highest level in July. We definitely did that. We as a coaching
staff our tremendously proud of each and every member of the team as you
can see by the summary of the game and the tournament every player
contributed to the success of the team and the win in Nashville. Every
player came together as a team when it counted by accepting their role and
I hope they are as proud of their accomplishments as we are and will
cherish the memories as we will from the season. Each player is a credit
to the game of baseball, a great kid and teammate and I am sure are going
to accomplish great things in their lives.

Flames are Runner-Up in SWOL Regional Tournament ! ! !
The West Stars and the Flames put on a great show for the fans in the
finals of the SWOL Regional tournament Tuesday, July 12th, 2005 under
the lights at Foundation Field. Unfortunately, the Flames came up on
the wrong end of an 8-7 score in the finals of the tournament.
The Cincinnati West Stars scored 4 runs in the bottom
of the 6th and then held the Flames scoreless in the 7th to win the game.
Mike Nastold and Jimmy Brenneman led the hitting attack. Nastold doubled
and tripled and Brenneman had 3 hits including a long home run to left
field into the houses at Foundation Field. Nate Bowman had 3 hits and Tim Issler
and Colton Cattani chipped in with 2 hits apiece The Flames played a strong
game defensively but in the end the West Stars hit and executed defensively
(throwing out 3 runners at the plate) to claim the the championship.
Congratulations to the West Stars on a fine tournament run.

Flames Win SWOL ! ! ! ! !
Over the weekend of July 9th and 10th by virtue of their wins against the Cincinnati Extreme and the Midland Warriors the Flames have clinched the championship of the
Southwest Ohio League for 2005. The Flames now have either won the league
championship or the SWOL Regional tournament every year that they have been
in existence starting in 1999.
2005 Season
Flames Win Roundtripper Wood Bat Tournament In Indianapolis ! ! ! !
The Flames defeated the Indiana Bulls 5 - 2 in the Finals of the
Roundtripper Wood Bat Firecracker Tournament before a packed house at the
developing Roundtripper baseball complex. For the tournament the Flames
pitching only gave up 4 earned runs in 6 games and the offense scored 24
runs. The Flames went 3-1 in pool play to claim the 2nd seed and then
defeated the hosts and long time rivals the Indiana Mustangs and the
Indiana Bulls during the championship tournament to claim the championship.
Pool Play opened up on Thursday morning with the Flames defeated the
Indiana Prospects 9 -2. Ryan Bucher and Matt Vanover combined to limit
the Prospects to 2 runs on 4 hits. Derek Bischoff led the hitting with 2
hits and 4 RBI's while Colton Cattani and Tim Issler each scored 3 runs.
Game 2 of pool play saw the Flames defeat the USA Athletic Wizards 4-0.
Issler pitched a complete game 5 hit shut out to lead the Flames and also
had the game winning hit breaking up the scoreless dual in the 5th inning
with a base hit to score Jimmy Brenneman. Cattani and Ryan Bucher chipped
in with 2 hits a piece. Bischoff drove in 2 more runs to provide the final
margin of victory.
Game 3 of Pool Play saw the Flames play the Bloomington Gold. The Flames
beat the Gold 3 -1 and with the win claimed a spot in the Championship
Tournament. David Giese pitched a complete game gem to lead the Flames and
the hitting was led by Issler, Cattani and Bischoff who all had two hits.
Game 4 of Pool Play saw the Flames play the Aboite Braves in a game that
meant little as both teams had clinched a spot in the Championship
Tournament. The Flames didn't muster much on the offensive end until the
last inning as the Braves defeated the Flames with some help from some bad
defense and some free passes from the pitching 6 -4. Issler and Cattani
each had 2 hits with Cattani driving in 2 runs to lead the offense.
The Championship Tournament saw the Flames open up against their long time
rival and host of the tournament the Indiana Mustangs. The Mustangs
rolled thru pool play with a 4-0 record. Bischoff and Mike Nastold limited
the Mustangs to 4 hits and 2 runs. Nastold in relief was the winning
pitcher as the Flames pitching kept control the entire game. The game
played before a packed house at the Roundtripper baseball academy complex
featured many great defensive plays, great pitching and some missed
opportunities by the Flames to break the game wide open. The Flames left
15 runners on base during the game. The Flames finally pushed the winning
run across as Nate Bowman who led off the inning with a double in the
bottom of the 8th inning on a bases loaded walk to Jimmy Brenneman. The
Flames won 3-2 to advance to the Championship game. An exiting game that
had the parents, scouts and umpires stating how well played the game was
between two very good opponents.
Awaiting the Flames in the Championship game were the Indiana Bulls who
defeated the Aoite Brave 2 -0 in the other semi-final game. Ryan Bucher
pitched a complete game gem to lead the Flames to victory. Jimmy
Brenneman's bat woke up from a little slump as he pounded out 4 hits and
scored 3 runs and Mike Nastold drove in 2 runs.
For the tournament the Flames played very strong defense with Andy Lamping
providing very strong defense and handling of the pitchers behind the
plate. Kevin Enchelmeyer provided signs of coming out of his slump with a
couple of good hard hits and executed a couple of sacrifice bunts when
called upon by the coach.
All in all a very good weekend of baseball away from home against very
strong opponents. Once again this year the Flames have provided the
opportunity for everyone on the team to get better by providing strong
opposition in many fine baseball complexes across the midwest. Next up to
finish the season is the SWOL Regional Championship tournament and then
two World Series tournaments. One another wood bat tournament to challenge
the players against very strong competition with wood bats and then the
NABF World Series both in Nashville.
2005 Season
FLAMES Sweep 4 Sandlott Games in Indy ! ! ! !
The Flames beat the previously undefeated USA Athletic Patriots and the
Indiana Bulldogs twice each over the weekend to extend their lead leading
record to 9-2 in the Super Series Sandlott League.
In the first DoubleHeader against the Patriots on Saturday the Patriots
imploded in the top of the 7th inning with errors, walks and hit batsman to
go along with a couple of dink hits by the Flames as the Flames held on
snuffing out a game winning rally by the Patriots in the bottom of the 7th
7-6. Dave Giese picked up his first win as a Flame in releif of Derek
Bischoff who pitched well for the Flames limiting the Patriots to 3 earned
runs in 5 2/3 innings pitched. Jimmy Brenneman with a leadoff triple and
Colton Cattani with a double led the hitting.
In game 2 the Flames scored early and often and Mike Nastold was donimating
on the mound as the Flames run-ruled the Patriots 11-1. The Flames scored
3 in the first and two in the second to deflate the Patriots after a very
disappointing loss in the first game. The Flames hit well as a team in
this game.
On Sunday the Flames traveled to the Indy Sports Park to play a late
doubleheader with the Indiana Bulldogs. The Flames came away with two
more wins to clinch a tie in the loss column for first place in the
Sandlott League this year.
In game one, Ryan Bucher was in complete control for the entire game as the
Flames beat the Bulldogs 11-0. In game two Tony Gouhin and Matt Vanover
limited the Bulldogs to 3 runs over 6 innings as the game was called and
ended because of darkness with the Flames leading 8-3. The Bulldogs walked
many hitters and did not field well leading to the lopsided results in the
doubleheader.
The Flames next play the Slammers in a SWOL game and then host the Flames
classic next weekend.
June 2005

14-1 in 5 innings. Brenneman and Gouhin both homered while Kevin
Enchelmeyer contributed 2 hits and 3 RBIs and Andy Lamping and Issler both
had 2 hits and along with Bucher each scored 2 runs. Cattani contributed a
triple and 3 RBIs. Matt Vanover pitched well picking up the win and

Flames to close out the game.

effective on the mound picking up the win. Flames bats were smoking with
19 hits. Home runs were hit by Brenneman, Cattani and Gouhin while

Cattani and Gouhin had 3 RBIs apiece while Vanover drove in 2. Brenneman
