Select Season:
Learn To Play Hockey (New Skaters and 2004 and younger)
This division is similar to the USA Hockey Initiation Program (IP), and will be a City of Cheyenne program run by the Cheyenne Capitals Youth Hockey Association coaches. The goal of this division is to provide more individual attention to young children and new skaters to better prepare them to move up to the appropriate divisions in the Capitals organization.

Learn To Play will consist of 2 10 week sessions through the year. All players under 5 years old will be required to participate in the Learn To Play. New skaters of any age will also be required to participate in at least one session.

***Practice Information 2008-2009***

Sundays 400PM-445PM
Thursdays 515PM-600PM
Contact City of Cheyenne Parks and Recreation or the Taco Johns Events Center for Start/End Dates and Registration Information.

8 and Under (ages 5-8, birth years 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003)
Similar to most associations in Colorado, this division allows for ALL kids to have travel and Jamboree opportunities with appropriate competition set up through the 4 skill levels (D is the most skilled, down through A for the kids just getting started).

***PRACTICE SCHEDULE INFORMATION 2008-2009***

There still could be some changes over time, but for the start of the season, U-8 is going to go with the following:

The U-8 season will start in early October, but the city's Learn To Play Hockey program will start in mid-September and only use 1/2 ice. So, the U-8 program will utilize the other 1/2 of the ice on Thursday's at 515pm and Sunday's at 400pm ONLY for the last half of September with ALL the kids in the U-8 program to designate which skill division each kid should be placed (with help from several older age division coaches who do not have a kid in the division, and can provide unbiased feedback to the U-8 coaches on how the kids should be divided).

Then, by early October for the start of the season the U-8 kids will be divided into 4 divisions: D (the most skilled), C (the next lower skilled group), B (the next lower skilled group) and A (the lowest skilled group of kids-recalling that ALL these kids will be returning players aged 5 years or older). The names of the divisions may change, but the practices for these divisions have been set as of 8/10/08 as:

Monday 530-615pm D, C, and B

Tuesday Pond Hockey D, C and Squirt (and any other 2000 and 2001 birth year kids who pay the extra $)
-Also, qualified kids (as decided by the coaches) with birth years 2002 or greater could also participate if they pay.

Thursday 515-600pm A (splitting the ice with the city's Learn To Play Program).

Thursday 600-700pm D (splitting the ice with the Squirt Division).

Sunday 315-400pm C and B

Sunday 400-445pm A (splitting the ice with the city's Learn To Play Program).

Prior to the beginning of the season, parents/players will be notified which division (D,C,B or A) that they are a member of, and the players will then be expected to practice ONLY at their designated times. Important, if a player improves during the season and the coaches decide they should move up a division (for example, from the A division to the B division), the players will be given that opportunity (which could mean a change of practice day/time for that player).

More details about the practices during the last half of September will be distributed sometime around or shortly after registration.
