Grand Slam Baseball Camps:  Please see the following from Mark Zender

To all 5-Star parents,

Grand Slam Camp has space available in their camp coming in July.  The camps offers both a baseball and softball version of this unique experience.  Players are taught by college coaches, high school coaches and current college ballplayers.  It is loads of fun and a terrific learning experience.  Attached to this email is a flyer for you to review and even print out.  Also, you can visit the camp web site for even more details at www.grandslamcamp.com.

Thank you.
Mark Zender

Fall Ball * Fall Ball * Fall Ball *

Thank you for all the inquiries regarding Fall Ball.  Registration will begin on Monday.  All games will be at Hazen High School.  So far pinto, mustang and bronco players have expressed interests.  Coaches if you are interested please jump in first.  Games will be double headers on Saturdays with CVAC and Maple Valley PONY.  Coaches may have practice once or twice a week at Hazen HS.  No Issaquah Schools are used for fall ball.  Practices begin last week of August.  First games are weekend after Labor Day.  Season goes until the 3rd week of October.

Fall Ball players are being provided both a jersey and drawstring pants to keep.  Please remember to include the size for your player.  Default size for mustang and pinto are YM and for bronco are AS if nothing is listed on the registration form.

5-Star has taken the lead role in the development of the Jennifer Dunn Memorial Ballfield Park to go off Hwy 900.  We will be conducting the feasibility study for the County.  Thank you for your support in this effort.

---------------------------------------------
Why is 5-Star BETTER than Little League !!!

-Teams can stay together longer
-Reasonable fees
-Boys : More like real baseball (leading off begins in Mustang). The fields get larger as you move up divisions. Plus, at 10 years and up, we will select tournament teams to play in tournaments all season long!!!
-Girls : Starting at age 11 we play by ASA rules and have professional ASA umps preparing them for High School

---------------------------------------------
***Covered areas at our schools can be used for dry practices and are available on a first-come basis. They cannot be reserved or held, and are not meant for just the teams scheduled at those fields. When possible, try to share your space and limit your time there if another team is waiting. If everybody works together, everybody wins!***

********* BASEBALL INFORMATION ***********

For a more descriptive explaination of PONY Divisions please see the League Description Handout below.

*******SOFTBALL/T-BALL INFORMATION ********

5-Star Softball is part of the Greater South King County Softball Association. We play 4 other recreational softball leagues within our area. The other leagues are Maple Valley Fast Pitch and Cascade Vista Athletic Association. Together we support over 500 softball players.

Here's a rundown what each age level is about:

T-Ball: This is where it all starts. For boys and girls ages 5 and 6, the kids learn the fundamentals of playing ball. Teams are built around friendships and schoolmates, and players are taught which way to run the bases, how to hit a ball, catching and throwing. Emphasis is placed on having fun, sportsmanship and baseball/softball fundamentals. Games and practices are kept short and fun, and scores are not kept. T-Ball boys and girls play approximately 15 games during the recreational season followed by a post season jamboree.

U-8 (Coach Pitch): For ages 7 and 8, this is where boys usually move into Pinto baseball and girls move into U-8 Coach Pitch Softball. Coaches continue to build on the fundamentals of playing softball, now not having to worry about players running the wrong way after hitting a ball. Games still are not focused on winning, but rather on having fun, sportsmanship and playing the game correctly.   During games, the coaches pitch the ball to their own batters. U-8 girls play approximately 14 games during the recreational season followed by a post season jamboree.

U-10 (Modified Fast Pitch): For ages 9-10. Girls begin learning about the real game of girls' fast pitch softball. Girls learn to pitch the ball underhand to each other. If a pitcher cannot strike out the batter or the batter cannot hit the ball after 3 balls, the batter’s coach comes in and completes the count. There are no walks at this level. Scores are kept at this level and things start becoming competitive. U-10 girls play approximately 14 games during the recreational season followed by a post season tournament.

U-12/U-14 (Fast Pitch): For ages 11 through 14, girls are now playing the full game of Girls' Fast Pitch Softball. Games are very competitive as the girls progress each age level.   All aspects of fast pitch are taught and rules followed. 5-Star Girls' Fast Pitch generally follows the ASA (Amateur Softball Association) rules and regulations during our regular recreational season. Fast Pitch girls play approximately 14 games during the recreational season followed by a post season tournament. Fast pitch teams also have the option to participate in ASA sanctioned tournaments.

For levels U-8 through U14, 5-Star Girls' Softball interlocks with other leagues within a 20 mile radius of Renton.

********** GENERAL INFORMATION ************

REMINDER***SCHOOL PARKING: We've received a reminder from the Issaquah School District that parking in designated Fire lanes or on playgrounds is not allowed. Violators are subject to ticketing and/or towing. We had a group of parents receive tickets @ one of our sites for parking in marked fire lanes!

REMINDER***MAPLE HILLS PARKING: We've received a reminder from the Issaquah School District that parking is not allowed in the back of Maple Hills Elementary on the playground (even if you're just unloading equipment). An onsite daycare uses the playground until 6:30 pm, so it is very unsafe for people to drive onto the playground. You may park around the back by the gym, but all gates will be locked @ 4:15.

REMINDER***RENTON SCHOOL DISTRICT RULES: 5-star teams are not allowed to use any of the Hazen or Maplewood fields on weekdays before 5:30 pm.

REMINDER***NO SMOKING ON SCHOOL PROPERTY: Please remember when we're playing at Apollo, Briarwood, Hazen, Hazelwood, etc., that smoking is prohibited on school property, which includes the ballfields for after-school activities.
